Re: My Facebook client for the n900

Right. I know what the problem is now at least (the update to libqfacebook didn't quite go as planned), fixing it should prove fairly easy. I'll address it tomorrow, as it's quite late and I have to get up for work etc.

Sorry for the inconvenience all.

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

Yes. It does work.

I had uninstalled facebrick (along with other apps) before updating PR1.2 - to free up space.

After the OTA update to PR1.2 I reinstalled facebrick and it works just fine. No crashes at all.

A fix is in the autobuilder now. Hopefully packages should be available within the next hour or so. This fixed it (for sure) on my device, so fingers crossed.

Sorry again :)

Will you implement more feature in the future?

Yes, of course. As time permits. brik is also working on facebrick, under the GSOC program, and has some nice new feature additions planned - see her announcement at http://kbremeraunet.blogspot.com/2010/05/gsoc-2010.html :)

Hi w00t,

Thanks,

Your package information is out of date.

Open a terminal, run:
sudo gainroot
apt-get update

Alternatively, open the application manager, and hit 'Update'.

You should get prompted to install an upgrade for libqfacebook, and all should be well after that.

Try uninstalling it. Hitting update, (even if you don't update anything), then go and install it.

I've found that it doesn't always pick up the latest packages if you don't give it a kick.

Cheers,
Mark.

Well, I'd have to guess you've been caught out by cache somewhere, because this is the problem that was just fixed. I flashed my second n900 and installed successfully there too.

Let's try confirm this. Do me a favour. Open a terminal, run:
apt-cache show libqfacebook

Copy the line: 'Version:'

It should look like: 'Version: 0.1.1-5' - if you see any number other than 5 at the end, you're running an older (unfixed) version.

Re: My Facebook client for the n900

under application details, the installed facebrick version is 0.4 and contains libqfacebook 0.1.1-4

Okay, that's an easier way to do it too. (I'm used to the command line, obviously :P) - this means you are indeed out of date, somehow. Be patient, and an update will hopefully show up eventually.

for some odd reason, putting the prompt into xterminal shows
"Version 0.1.1-5"

conflicts with what is seen if i go into application details when i try to uninstall

Go back to terminal, try:
sudo gainroot
apt-get upgrade

DON'T just blindly say 'yes', unless it only mentions libqfacebook. There can be instances where that does dangerous things you don't want.

Can you upload pics with this app? If so..to a specific album?
Thanks

No. But you can do this with Facebook support for the N900, from Nokia.

See also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eC63Ywlf3I4

This requires you have the official (Nokia) desktop widget/etc installed.

i'm not sure if this is "only" libqfacebook, but here's what it says:

"The following packages will be upgraded:
gstreamer-tools
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-extra
gstreamer0.10-tools libqfacebook
4 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 1358kB of archives.
After this operation, 201kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? "

Looks pretty safe. I'd say: go for it.

(But keep in mind that only you can make that decision, worst case you'll have to reflash your phone *if* something goes wrong.)

sounds fairly dangerous, maybe i'll just wait for the update that comes up in the near future

Reflashing is fairly straightforward, so it's not dangerous (except to the applications/data installed on your phone) - but this is something you *should* be keeping in mind whenever you use something in extras-devel anyway: http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-devel

Now, bear in mind, this isn't a likely outcome in your scenario, but I never recommend something that has even a chance of backfiring without adding a disclaimer. ;)
