Can we make this app self activate when the sim card is changed? and also manually activation by SMS?

What if the person has no Credits?
Can we do a resend until the message sent?

Maybe the developper can explain us some little things? This project is dead? Lot of people are interested with that app.

Argg how do I uninstall this app? I didn't clicked on the [ ] Enable to remove!

Now I can't find the app to rerun the damn thing setting agian. Can't even find that specified file in ETC/OMAPCAM

All i got in there is
OMAP3CAMD.conf
tcm8330.enc
tcm8341.enc
vs6555.enc

Where the hell is the configuration file?

Sorry, don't know whats happened

I had the same problem. Sending the configure sms only worked once. After rebooting I could configure the application again.

The damn thing only worked once! but after that it stopped working.. How is this being useful? After tested work then it stopped working? And when the phone reboot, the settings are lost when sent the configuration password.

This is very unreliable. Can't the author makes the app store the config file and restart itself every reboot, also makes the activation and deactivation works continously?

Make the app sitting in the memory level and waiting for activation.

Had battery life issues but not sure if it was related to this app. If it's not activated it just runs in a background watch mode right? How could that eat up battery life.

Hi all, i cant uninstall, i have the checkbox ticked in config but app manager says "unable to uninstall".

Im also now unable to access config, im 110% certain on the password but it just doesnt open it like it used to.

I looked in /etc/omapcam and the config isnt there - does anyone else know where it is so i can delete it and see if i can uninstall then please?

Cheers!

LOL.
Usually I don't like that type of posts Reeby,
But I have went very far to protect people from installing this up without 1st learning it's problems, I created a wiki page,
and asked Xomm to put a line on the 1st post.

So you are right :)

What's the status of development of this project? Anyobody can please update the community ? I tried installing the application and configured it correctly, but didnt' get back any sms with locations, etc. Nor did I get any emails. Finally had to uninstall it.

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

I think souce code was never released, so noone else can continue the project if the original author has vanished.

btw, would it be usefull to have one thread of stolen N900s here somewhere? List of IMEIs, WLAN and BT MACs and some special identification notes.

My N900 got stolen in Lisboa 2 weeks ago. I wonder if Nokia can block updates to that IMEI when PR1.3 comes, because I was forced to register to Ovi when PR1.2 was installed?

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

IMO, I Am Here was doing it wrong. Part of the problem was password and intercepting SMSs. What the N900 should do is log wifi points, GPS every 10 minutes, etc. When an internet link is detected, spill the beans.

That way, there's a better chance of tracking the phone. Even if you don't know where it is now, you know it goes to work every day and where which, IMO, is more important.

Also, it can be used for statistics when not an anti-theft measure. I'd love such an app.

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

I finally managed to get rid of it...

When it installed the process was not running and refused to run, so I couldn't enable the uninstall string.

Following the instructions on here using rootsh corrupted my application catalogs and killed app manager...

However Restoring a backup in the N900 (I make them daily) reinstated all my apps and settings except Imhere-3.0 which was nowhere to be seen and everything runs fine now (I hope this help at least a few people).

This app should be removed, since it does not work anymore.

Some of the information collected are forwarded through a mail account owned by the author.

This alone should make you not want to install it.

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

Hi people, I wonder if someone can help me uninstall this app? I have used it before and worked without a problem. but I'm about to go on holiday and wanted to try it before I went so if it gets stolen or lost I can get a friend to SMS it. I tried it with an SMS to activate it and it did nothing. Then I tried the config and that didn't work either!

So then I tried to uninstall it in app manager and failed saying "Unable to uninstall "I am here"" I tried downloading it and reinstalling it but it wouldn't install

so then I tried the apt-get uninstall command, that failed

tried the apt-get --purge uninstall command, that failed

tried the instructions at this link

http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=393

and mine comes back with the error code 1 (IE they don't exist)

is there a way of uninstalling it? surely there's a forceful way of removing it under root (as root should superceed any file protection on the OS?)

Hope someone can help!

Thanks

Flegg

You can reset the setting by sending a self message to your phone with the reset password. The password you first set it up at the start of the wizard. I wouldn't have a clue what you've entered. If you forgot then you can't uninstall it. The only way to get rid of it is to reflash. The problem with this app is it's only work once and if you tested it once then it won't work again. The developer of this app is gone somewhere now. He hasn't been responding to the feed back at all. I guess he is gone.

flegg 2010-08-10 11:52

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

Thanks for the tip, when yo say a self message, do you mean a message to myself from the same phone? or from another phone to mine (like you would when you want to activate tracking)

do you just send the password? or something together with it like reset<password>

UPDATE: Just tried sending my password and config again to my phone via sms and nothing, no config window has come up or anything so I think it's pantsified.

is there any way of backing up all my SMS and apps installed so I can restore them all after flashing (except i am here?) don't really want to lose anything this close to going away

Yeah that's what I tried. The killall said there were no instances. The RM commands came back with errors saying they don't exist a d the dpkg came back with an error :(

Reeby 2010-08-10 12:34

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

Sure you have imhere-0.3 ?

flegg 2010-08-10 12:39

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

According to app manager its 0.3.1-1maemo0 not sure if that's the same? :(

Reeby 2010-08-10 12:42

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

nor do I (( but I would try different wording in the cmd

flegg 2010-08-10 12:46

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

Different wording like what? Replacing the 0.3 with the full one stated in app manager?

rockingrob5150 2010-08-15 12:18

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

i tried all the ways too. nothing worked.
what solved the problem for me, is that on startup of n900 you must complete the wizard that .." i am here".. pops up.then, once you complete the wizard, it uninstalled effortlessly through application manager:)

hello to new people in this thread who can't get the app to work. did you read the post quoted above?

imo the app should be removed from repos but some common sense for those who has installed this would be nice too...

AlexV12 2010-08-18 09:28

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

for the people who have forgotten the config password and can't uninstall the app. after you type this you can uninstall it:

killall imhere-0.3

rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/imhere-0.3.prerm rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/imhere-0.3.postinst dpkg --purge --force-remove-reinstreq imhere-0.3

the last code is 1 sentence

that worked for me.

to bad it's stealing information. this would have been a great app

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

hey i think your the person who can answer my question (hopefully:),
i installed the application sometime ago and i think it working properly becuase i get the email notification of battery level. however i wanted to change the setting for "i am here" so that i can get the snapshot from and camera & the sim card change notification etc. I uninstalled it and re installed it no problems but i didnt get the notification pop up when i installed the very first time and i dont know how to access the settings for the app. would realy appreciate some help cheers.

p.s my first time using this blog/ log so simple instructions please :)

AlexV12 2010-08-19 16:03

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

you acces it by sending an sms to your phone with the "config" password you used before you uninstalled it. (it stores that on your phone, even if you uninstall it.)

but anyway, i think the app doesn't work anymore.. so good luck
