Does this cost, normally MMS messages cost extra, im just wondering if it costs, or whether it is sent through the internet for free.

Also i sent a picture to someone to tes that mine worked, it did but then a message came up saying: "message was deleted due to no legal rules found for this media"
Can anyone explain this please? Thanks.

It sends a normal MMS. If your provider charges you for MMS, you will be charged by your provider :)

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

I have tried it now for some time and still can't get it to work. I have the latest update as of yesterday. Have not checked today.

When trying to download a MMS, I use polite mode, it asks to change connection and it changes to Telenor MMS and then it just says Downloading MMS waiting like 5-10minutes and still nothing. I have tried longer as well. But nothing.

So I have to kill the application. Is there any common misstake that I might have made?

i cant save recieved messages so i need to uninstall this, and i cant delete the fmms internet connection that i set up, the delete button is greyed out, when ever i leave my home the fmms internet connection becomes active, but i dont want it to, i want my vodafone internet connection to be automatically set instead, i did set up this vodafone internet connection as i read that the last connection setup becomes the one that automaticaly set, but thats not happening, wish id never installed this app now, im ceartainly never going to use it if theres a charge,

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

@leetut; you can save received MMS. you just have to hold down on the picture for a couple of seconds and you should get a window which says Open File, you open that then you can then do with it what you want save, rename as any other picture :D

ikerrg 2010-06-24 07:02

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

@leetut: Did you know what a MMS is? Obviously there is a charge for every MMS you send, like for SMS (indeed it is usually much expensive for MMS). You are using your provider's network for sending MMS, like all the other mobile phone brands do. fMMS only provides a feature that N900 lacks, but it cannot make miracles. If you do not want to pay (and you have an accesible free WiFi), send an e-mail.

P.D. To delete the MMS access point, you can download fAPN and delete it.

gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/fmms

After this, just send yourself a mms and you will also receive it(hopefully) ;)

Infact, I would recommend this to be the FIRST troubleshoot you should try, if you believe your settings to be correct.

Tried this with polite, rude and havoc connection and got the following;

Operation failed
(-2 'Name or service not known')
Please check your settings.

Checked out my settings and completely reconfigured my APN using fAPN - deleted the standard "MMS" APN and created a new "Vodafone MMS" APN, then configured it as per the wiki and then got the following;

Operation failed
(-3 'Temporary failure in name resolution')
Please check your settings.

Ok so now got to the bottom of it..... Then I had to reconfigure all the settings within the application as well - as I had deleted the relevant APN it had cleared all the settings in fMMS pertinent to the previous APN.

@leetut - use fAPN to delete the "MMS" APN and then reconfigure the APN after creating a new one. Worked for me and can select which connection I want to use by changing connections in the settings menu to "Always ask".

Hope this helps anyone else having issues with this great app.......

Can't receive jpegs?

I can send pics just fine. It also seems to retrieve them fine, or at least stays connected long enough for me to assume that it is downloading the pic but then fails to decode it properly, Then fMMS claims "Content type not supported. Part media1.jpeg is removed" and only displays any text that was sent with the message.

I'm using fMMS 1.1.9 on Viaero in USA.

log attached (I had to remove the leading portion to fit under the forum's size limit. If you think the part I removed may contain any relevant info, I will email it to you in its entirety.)

Thanks!

i don't know what "but my friends cant see the message that is with" really means, but if it means that your friends only see the image without the text:

they need to actually "play" the mms. there has to be a function "play" or "start presentation" or whatever it's called on their devices. most people don't know about that at all and therefore never try it. it seems fmms separates text from image in a way that receiving phones interpret as two parts of a multi-part mms.

Bit of a suggestion, how hard would it be to add in a 'Save as' option at this point in addition to the "open"? It'd kind of make it a little more user friendly : )

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

I'm not sure if this has been asked yet but is it possible to allow sending to multiple users? Or the ability to post multiple items in the MMS. Right now you can only add one item. It works well though for receiving mms items not so well for sending

Reposting this here as per several users' advice.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Last night a friend sent me an MMS message. fMMS promptly started up and displayed "Downloading." It seemed to have hung after several minutes had passed but finally failed with a "Unable to retrieve message" error.

I've tried downloading the message several times using the latest version of fMMS but I get the same behavior described above.

Attached is fMMS's log file -- If anyone can make sense of it I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on what the problem might be.

Thanks,

jdb2

I have a problem that on all recieved MMS the sender is "1".
I only see the names of people I sent a mms to.

Is this bug only with me? Can I do something to fix it?

Also when I recieve a new mms it displays the reciever name, which is ME :)
Only when I access the mms the second time do I see the senders name.

Vodafone sees your phone as a phone that can not receive mms. You need to contact vodafone and ask them to change their settings for your account.

I too am having problems sending and receiving, its never really worked, although i have successfully received about 3 mms' out of the many many that i have received and sent about 2, but i dont know why these ones worked (all this was prior to PR 1.2!)

I am on vodafone UK, running PR 1.2 and using fmms version 1.1.9. I have contacted vodafone and they confirm mms is enabled on my account, so i got them to disable, and then re-enable it again to see if that would make a difference - it didnt :(

I have tried both these settings.....

Quote:

Vodafone UK

* Access Point Name: wap.vodafone.co.uk
* MMSC: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms
* Username: wap
* Password: user
* HTTP Proxy: 212.183.137.12
* Port Number: 8799

OR

* Access Point Name: wap.vodafone.co.uk
* MMSC: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms/
* Username: wap
* Password: wap
* Proxy: 212.183.137.12
* Port number: 9201
Neither of these work, nor can i find any that do. When trying to send i get either "Operation failed, timed out" or "Operation failed, unable to contact operator" (or something like that).

Ive attached the logs for when trying to receive a mms using each of the settings above, they are distinguished by the port number.

Any help on this would be massively appreciated, cheers.

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

I also got T-Mobile USA to send me three test MMS messages. I only received one out of the three and it was about a day late. On top of that I had them cross-check my settings in fMMS ( access point, MMSC, user name, password, HTTP proxy and port number ) using the Nokia N95 as a reference, ( they don't support the N900 ) and everything checked out OK. That said, when I tried to download the test MMS message that got to me I got the same "Unable to retrieve message" error from fMMS. :(

Hey there, I can't get fMMS to send or receive. I'm on the `Crazy John's' network (Australia), PR1.2. I'm using the settings at http://wiki.maemo.org/MMS.

(snip)

Any ideas?

EDIT: Fixed it, managed to receive a message by changing settings (removed proxy), however it's hit-or-miss at the moment, and giving me different errors at different times. Stay tuned!

I've tried these settings with fmms 1.1.9 - with the obvious typo fixed in the mmsc - and attempts to send anything fail with the error

Code:

Operation failed

Please check your settings.

I cannot seem to find the magical settings to make MMS work for me.

I've also tried the above ( ie. APN of epc.t-mobile.com and MMSC of http://mms.msg.eng-tmobile.com/mms/wapenc, everything else blank) as well as all variations on the recommended settings for T-Mobile USA in the MMS wiki article ie. I changed the port to 9102 and also tried an MMSC of http://208.67.216.231/servlets/mms but to no avail -- I still get "Unable to retrieve message." :/
