This happens to me too since first version, so no regresion bugs. Have all Anthrax discography but Instinctiv only shows 2 albums (one of them with only 6 tracks of 14). All tracks are in MP3, tagged with mp3tag. In default media player everything works well, it shows all albums and all tracks. And i cant find any pattern of why this is happening.

Also latest Annihilator album has repeated entries. One with 9 tracks and other with the other one. Again both have same album name, everything seems to be correct. Is there any log file we can send you to debug this?

Instinctiv shuffle doesn't work for me at all. It just say 'Analyzing come back later' or something to that effect. The songs do not show up in the player. All of my files are MP3 format encoded at 64kbps (space reasons). They are all located in a single folder on the SD card. I haven't looked for patterns yet regarding file names, etc... but I will do so.

thank you thank you for even having gapless playback prioritized! if we can get this in any player, but especially one as promising as instinctiv, it would solve my key N900 wish.

i too have the issue where only a portion of my music is available in the Shuffle -> Play songs similar to... area. if i go into Library i can see everything in the different views however.

it would be great if when you launch the blog if you could include a brief usage guide for each feature. i think there are a few i've missed despite the simple gui.

i'm really enthusiastic about what you're doing here, can't wait to see the potential for this app reached. please don't let gapless playback fall off the stack! lol

Thanks for such a elegant app, and for keeping us up to date with what is happening with this app.

Would syncing over Wi-fi be possible to implement and something you would consider. I guess this would require pairing with the instinctiv player (which at the moment is only available for Mac OS X).

This feature is apparently available on Zune and Wi-fi Sync was developed for the iPhone/iPod Touch, it never came to the app store but that is only due to Apple.

I don't know if this is outside the scope of the instinctiv app, and might not be very popular unless instictiv player comes to Windows to allow software to pair with.

OTA sync is the next big feature to come out ;) In fact, it's going to be far better than just sync :)

hahaha i just love the way every time a really cool feature is suggested the reply is "yes! already on it! but with sprinkles!"

i suggest a finite probability drive where, when entered with the correct co-ordinates, can instantly teleport all of a ladies underwear one foot to the side! :)

Hi Peter,

I found it. Instinctiv is ignoring all of my music with an extension of .MP3 (capitalized) as opposed to .mp3 (lower case). I tested this out by renaming one of my missing music files with a lower-case extension and saw that Instinctiv found it after that.

Just another victim of Linux being case sensitive - but in reality the software should account for that and handle it.

Can you please correct this in the app so I don't have to write a shell script to lower-case all of my MP3 files :-)

Regards,
-DJ

Nice catch. I won't paste the code but check out the comment preceding it:

/*TODO: This is horrible, it needs to be refactored based on what renderers are supported, and the propper place for this is NOT in song_metadata*/

The good news is the next rev will have this problem fixed. The bad news, it's part of our refactoring effort so it'll be another week :(

No. :o You guys are our elite squadron of beta testers... the current version is an unofficial release. We're working towards rounding out the last remaining set of major issues and should submit to Nokia within a week or so (is my hope). We'll post here as well for those who don't want to wait on the Nokia QA process.

It's on page 2 of the mantis list. In other words, it's on our wish list too, but we haven't really investigated what video playback is like on maemo, whether or not we can get access to youtube the way we want, etc...

Cool, app.

Cant work out how to work the Play Songs Similar To though.

Also the Maemo last.fm scrobbler doesnt seem to work with this. Is Instinctiv not playing through the Media Application Framework?

Great app!

Is there an option to delete tags in the history of the Identity section where it has recorded a part of a song?

I tried to test the identify option for a new song but it failed and tagged the clip with the date and time. Then I wanted to delete the tag from the list but there doesn't seem to be such an option.

Sorry :( not yet. There's a lot of smaller obvious stuff we just haven't gotten around to yet. Give us some time, though -- we'll get there :)

Personally, I prefer video playback to be a separate app to music playback.

I agree. That said, there are come cool things we could do with video, like create a "pandora" for youtube, or even just enable music videos for songs you have (again, pulling from youtube, or some other source). That could be a nicety and it wouldn't get in the way of people who don't care.

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

It can't not take time from polishing, right? So, like, at the very end of the list, maybe?

IMO, there are enough players out there and wrappers for them. Native has the media player, then there's mplayer with kmplayer and SiB, there's VLC on its way, plus a few players and wrappers in beta, plus some media centers.

Yours would probably look best, but it's not like there's a shortage, plus, personally I'd rather have a polished, finished app than a multifunction media center. I have like 4 of those. 3 of them are YouTube enabled. Plus another like 4 or so youtube interfaces. And then there's the 4 browsers that do youtube, like MicroB, Fennec, Opera (I think), IceWeasel (at some point, maybe).

I know I'm one of many, but, since I get a vote, I vote for focusing on audio. I doubt such a software will ever be "done". No player ever is. Popular players for PC update like once a week for the last 5-10 years. There's always something.

+1

I'd much rather just have a solid, innovative music player (with crossfade) that I can use in portrait mode.

Agreed, I would prefer that audio was focused on first and was fairly polished (with gapless playback and other features present) before the footprint starts expanding to include other media. ndi summarized my feelings nicely as well.

IMHO, the simplicity of the app dovetails nicely with the idea of doing a specific thing very well or "the best" (audio) rather than trying to be too many things (handle other media) in a less than optimal fashion (lack of features). Once audio and performance was nailed down though, it would be cool to see the other areas evolve naturally - just not at the expense of the core functionality (or at least what the "audio-first" group feel the core functionality should be).

Again, I really appreciate your participation in the thread, Peter. Keep up the good work.

We're still working out the kinks with a much simpler, prerequisite procedure: talking to girls. ;)

I beg to differ. I do not want to open another app just for the video. You know how long it take to open an app every single time?...Unless you like to open stuffs but i don't.....The default media player can play music & videos...so i don't see why it shouldn't be integrated.

Yes, and maybe Peter should also intergrate angry birds, x term and a "destroy the phone"-button? ~.~

Thats it! ONE app for everything!

No seriously, I think its fine without an vid player, there are enough in the repositories and I don't think it would damage you to spend two secs to open an app to view a video.

Use your mind and think logically before you write, Angry Bird and X-terminal is not playable under media player anyway lol. Look, I only say this if it wasn't for the default media player on the PHONE or ON THE PC. It has always been one single app integration. A media player is supposed to play more than just music. Well, unless you want to call Instintiv a music player and nothing else. It's just my suggestion for integration..i am not putting a gun to anybody's head but you sure sound like that's what i did. Or sound like it's impossible to integrate.

I think anyhow it's a little more complicated than a simple music player
IMO default player is good for vidz but so poor for music
keep going on with this appz !!!

Peter,

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but I just realized something with the latest build of Instinctiv - the random play option doesn't work. When I click 'Random' it just opens the first song alphabetically and goes from there in order. Same for going to the 'next'/'previous' tracks.

Any one else seeing this?
