Do you need to jailbreak before the bypass works? I'm not interested in the backup manager so I have no intention of jailbreaking yet but I'd like to keep the current firmware just in case the homebrew community really takes off. So is the firmware bypass jailbreak dependent somehow?

Nop just DNS and it should work.

My PS3 freedom worked great before but i decided to flash my handset again on OC it, now i can't get psfreedom to disable itself? Any ideas?

/home/user/psfreedom # ./psfreedom-enable.sh
/home/user/psfreedom # ./psfreedom-disable.sh
ERROR: Module psfreedom is in use
FATAL: Error inserting g_file_storage (/lib/modules/2.6.28-omap1/g_file_storage.ko): Device or resource busy

Re: N900 PS3 Jailbreak Detailed How-To

yeah. youre having the same problem as a few people. until you actually use the n900 to jailbreak the ps3, you get an error trying to disable it. if you want it off, you MUST do the jailbreak method with your n900plugged in..once youve done that, you can switch the ps3 off and disable psfreedom.

Re: N900 PS3 Jailbreak Detailed How-To

Ah, it never used to do that before?

The only difference between what I have done now and before is i installed it using "sudo gainroot" rather than just typing "root"

Unsure if this would make a difference though?

do check the compatibility list. It's in my tag, why don't you try taking off the parental lock code before asking?

It is seem that SONY has blocked the DNS and LoganTool now. So the only way out is to update to play on PSN.

i always type sudo gainroot, as it is just more reliable than typing root on its own..

Re: N900 PS3 Jailbreak Detailed How-To

kerussm.

whichever game you are trying to play, make sure you delete the game installation data, NOT your save file, from the ps3's hard drive before you run the game. unsure if this needs to be done every time you run the backup, or just the first time, but thats most likely to be the issue.

I am quite skepticle on updating to 3.42 even i'm not installing Jailbreak on my console.
http://dukio.com/gadget/v342-firmwar...ps3-users.html

I load it to test the Jailbreak work but didn't bother installing the Backup manager.pkg, all just experimenting. But the news seems to scare the hell out of me lol.

maximmus, it doesnt matter what directory you put it in, it will be found.

@whoever was asking about logans tool on your n900: i doubt it, unless anyone can be bothered porting an exe file to a .deb package, which i find very unlikly. and i doubt anyone is going to bother coding something similar considering the n900 is such a low-demand product.

I believe that tool merely acts as a DNS proxy, spoofs the PS3 servers so they point locally and perhaps also acts as an http server to send out a false update file to make the PS3 think no new firmware is available. Both of these things should be relatively easy to do on the N900, half the software you need is already installed on EVERYONES N900 as standard.

The N900 uses dnsmasq for DNS caching/proxying, you should be able to tweak that to spoof the DNS record of the PS3 servers. In fact that is exactly what I first started using dnsmasq to do on my PC at home, to do my own advert blocking for the whole LAN, I even used to have it send out fake adverts to MSN Messenger for my amusement.

You need to change how dnsmasq is started on your N900 so instead of only working locally (its designed to only respond to the N900 itself asking for DNS information, for security) and tell it to spoof the PS3 servers. Then you would simply set your PS3s DNS server as your N900s WiFi IP address and make sure your N900 is connected to your WiFi.

Likewise as you can install an http server on the N900 there is no reason you could not also spoof the update servers. However I do not know the specifics about the configuration of the N900 to assist further, but it shouldn't be very hard to do IMO.

CONFIRMED WORKING!!!!!!!

Both backup and loading works.

Using power kernel.

Just make sure you edit the psfreedom.ko.

You need to to change dev_xxxx to dev_bdvd using a hex editor.

Also, Inital-D: Extreme Stage is working.

Here's the file I edited.

Hi DACHIGGA,

I would like to ask your help if possible.
I've seen the psfreedom application (easy solution) but this version does not let me load backups, also I've tried the other steps ( http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...ps3+games+n900 ) the steps ''SpideyBR'' posted there but also no luck with loading backups, don't get me wrong my PS3 is jailbroken in both ways I also backed up some of my games but apparently I have 2 do one of the following either: (To enable backup loading you have to change dev_xxxx to dev_bdvd in the psfreedom.ko) or manually copy patched version of "psfreedom.ko" there myself's
how?
Code:
/opt/psfreedom/modules/omap1
/opt/psfreedom/modules/power40

put the patched versons in thoes places(depending on what kernel your running)

AS you problably understand I don't know how to do this but I would very much like to do it myself, could you perhaps point me in tthe right direction maybe there's an application for the N900 on which I can edit the ''psfreedom.ko'' file or something, I am already loosing sleep over this :(

Can you perhaps help out, it would be very much appreciated and I would be very gratefull

Easier method.

Requirements:
internet (only for installing the necessaries packages)
rootsh (if you don't have it, find it in the app manager software)

Open a terminal (ctrl+shift+x or browser thru the menu). You are at your home folder (/home/user)
Create a folder to organize the files: mkdir psfreedom.
Change into that dir: cd psfreedom
Download the package: wget http://xceleo.org/psfreedom.tar.gz
Unpackage it: tar xvzf psfreedom.tar.gz
Give scripts execution permission: chmod 755 *.sh
Correct the module permission: chmod 444 *.ko
That's it. It's installed. To run: ./psfreedom-enable.sh
To stop: ./psfreedom-disable.sh

Simplifying, connect your n900 to the internet and then:
mkdir psfreedom && cd psfreedom
wget http://xceleo.org/psfreedom.tar.gz
tar xvzf *.tar.gz && rm *.tar.gz
chmod 755 *.sh && chomd 444 *.ko
That's it, it's installed in your home folder.

To run:
sudo /home/user/psfreedom/psfreedom-enable.sh
To stop:
sudo /home/user/psfreedom/psfreedom-disable.sh

Or:
root
cd /home/user/psfreedom
./psfreedom-enable.sh
And, to stop:
./psfreedom-disable.sh

thanx mate, very helpfull but there's just 1 thing WinSCP is obviously how I can get the already patched psfreedom.ko in root of my N900 so I just have to replace the already installed one with the patched one :D actually now it all makes sense to me

there's is just ONE minor problem in my case which is that I have a macbook pro which can of course not run exe files as WinSCP is for windows is there maybe another solution for mac users perhaps :( and WHY can't I replace the ''psfreedom.ko'' file with a program that can do all this by just going in the N900 when connected to laptop with usb cable???

everything is doable using xterminal directly on the N900
to copy a fil : cp
to move a file : mv

The GUI PSFreedom doesn't come with the .ko files that are patched to allow backup manager to work.

You have to manually replace them in:
/opt/psfreedom/modules/omap1
/opt/psfreedom/modules/power40

WinSCP+OpenSSH gives access to hidden folders such as /root. Now i've read some people say that you don have to put the files in /root. In my guide, I was following KaKaroto's instructions to put them in root.

While connected to the n900 via USB. just put the files anywhere on your N900 that the Mac can see.

Then on the n900. navigate to that place via terminal and run the script. Like:
Code:

cd /home/user/MyDocs/Somewhere
sh psfreedom-enable

make sure you're root first:
Code:

root
or
Code:

sudo gainroot

Re: N900 PS3 Jailbreak Detailed How-To

Hi,

I have a N900 and PS3 and PSFreedom.

It worked since the first day PSFreedom was out.
Since today it doesn't work...

My girlfriend plays PS3 and after 1 hour I cam back and nothing worked any more, I had to reset the playstation video settings (hold Power 10 Seconds) to get a life sign.

Its not updated (I double checked it).

When I now inserted the N900 to the playstation, turn it on and hold Eject, normaly it should display this "USB Found"-layer and after that a yellow layer with batary information on the top, right?

Since today only the "USB found"-layer appears, then after a second it disappers, then appears again... so on, endless loop. After ~7 seconds the PS3 started without Jailbreak...

I tried nearly everything, I have no idea what todo and neat urgend help!
The first answer who help me do this working will get 10€ on PayPal (no fake).

guys for those who do the ps3 ftp server....you can hook ethernet lan direct from your ps3 to your laptop or computer, set ip to 10.1.1.1,mask 255.255.255.0 , gateway 10.1.1.0 ,dns 10.1.1.1 and samething on your ps3, then use fxpftp transfer game into your internal HHD, (speed 25MBs) took me about 2 mins to transfer my 7G game

Re: N900 PS3 Jailbreak Detailed How-To [Updated-GUI]

Modifying PSFreedom to enable Backup Manager operation:

Using the WinSCP you configured earlier. Transfer and replace the .ko files on your N900 in:

/opt/psfreedom/modules/omap1
/opt/psfreedom/modules/power40

With the ones extracted from these: (RESPECTIVELY)

PSFreedom For Stock Kernel: (Patched For Backup Manager)
http://talk.maemo.org/attachment.php...7&d=1283539537

PSFreedom for Power Kernel: (Patched For Backup Manager)
http://talk.maemo.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=13527

how would i do this on a nokia n800 because i have it all set up backup manager works but is not enabled for playing the backed up games i have looked through the internal memory of the nokia n800 and there is no file directory /opt/psfreedom/modules/omap1 so i can change the .ko file as instructed in this forum any help would be fantastic thankyou
