damn i lost usb cable. and when i am trying to do it trhough app manager its says connect via usb , and create a back up. how can i do it through my device (wifi connected)

I'm Vodafone UK and entered my IMEI number on http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php and can see the PR1.3 update.
I use the Global version as there doesn't seem to be any reason to wait for the UK version?

Really, this isn't that difficult to understand. Compare this to OS updates/service packs etc. for PCs.

One is like a service pack (you need to have an OS installed, it only upgrades what has changed, you don't loose other applications, is smaller to download).

The other is like a new installation from CD or DVD. You don't need an OS, it replaces everything (except possibly user data ... depending on what PC OS we are comparing it to, but you will need to re-install applications that don't come with the OS), but is a much larger download.

Maybe 1.3 will fix the 1.2 problem that I had :). My Fm-transmitter disappears when I either update to 1.2 from 1.1 OR flash to 1.2 directly. No FM-transmitter for me :(
On 1.1 it works without problem.

how can i update the device withoout cable. ?? i cant through the device because it promts a message connect n900 to the pc via usb cable. when ipdated to pr.1.2 i just pressed and it happened instantly

I did that to be able to perform a OTA update and it worked perfectly. I also had to uninstall another lib (I can nor remember) needed by CoudGPS.

It shows pr 1.3 there for me. But when I try to update OTA or with the Nokia Updater or Ovi Suite it tells me there's no update . . . :s

app manger didn't show me pr1.3 update.
so tried
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
got the update but again like others getting old version in settings?

I bought my N900 from UK but I like in Malta. How can I change to global version not UK??

Lol, no one wants to answer this guy's question?

No turn-by-turn ovi maps. This firmware update was mainly for bug fixes. The only thing they added to ovi maps for the N900 was the re-route button.

Ok I found how to manually flash it. But the global version I found is 190MB big and you are saying about 87MB. What is the difference? Is it still the same??

via maemo flasher or via NSU, you loose your personnal data, parameters,... not via OTA

190 mb is the full and last maemo 5 OS (by this way, it makes a reset to the phone)

87 mb is the PR.1.3 add contents (in this way via ota/wifi, you will keep all your personnal contents)

OK. Thanks I managed to flash it to PR1.3 Global via Maemo flasher. If in the future there will be another update will it automatically flash to global or UK??

yes u can update from device thats what is called OTA
first check in app manager if update is available.if its available update from there
I didn't find any update in mine so i tried following in xterminal

apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

as always u need to run the above command as root

I upgrade my n900 via terminal using apt-get dist-upgrade, because pr 1.3 doesnt apear in aplication manager.

The upgrade is finished with no errors but my n900 stil shows de version of pr 1.2

Can anyone help me please?

The update is still not showing on my phone, i dont get it? Is anyone else having this problem? Im in the uk and on orange. Is there a manual way to push the update on to the phone?

There is no PR1.3 for UK yet.

In the past updates, UK version has been delayed by a few weeks/month compared to the rest of the world.

If you don't want to wait, you can reflash with the global image rather than UK. When and if the next update comes, then you'd be able to install OTA since you'd be on global and not UK firmware.

I don't know how the color selection worked in PR 1.2
But I can change the color by selecting an empty color
field (the white boxes) and then adjust the color in the
color pad.
