hehe, reminds me of comics in the 90s when people i know would get one to read and one for a rainy day. Though i think this is a better "investment". We are such enablers. :)

though i will be jealous that your N9 is twice as good as mine.

Still no updates on the bulk pricing for everybody else, btw. Still working that out.

I'm in for a 64GB version. Looking around many of the websites are already sold out. I'm in TW though...

Officialy will me sold for $8,500 pesos which is around $650 USD for the 16 GB version. That is unlocked, I havent seen a contract offer. Mexican carrier telcel rarely locks their phones.

Most of the reviews were good. They do have a return policy. I'll find out soon enough whether the reviews were true or not..

Quite it seems. I am less trustworthy apparently as I slept right through my Fedex delivery person's doorbell ringing. sigh.

And I got my second N9 today from Dubai via Axiom Telecom. I have somebody in Dubai working with them to sell/send to us with a discount rate perhaps - thought I'd have that sorted out by now, but dealing with people and having it work out with the merchant are two different things.

Mexico is finally selling theirs... Telcel still only has the Magenta, whereas the Cyan and Black are in pretty good supply. The price is around 8200 Pesos for the 16gb, the 64's are grabbing an initial premium, waiting on that to either settle down or secure a direct line to somebody for those.

Only bad thing I don't like is that Axiom (Dubai) is comfortable with using my FedEx account, but man... I don't think I can handle everybody using my account and those fees coming directly out of my credit card. Gotta sort that out too.

Working on Australia with jinx right now. Qole, you're not forgotten ;)

Gerbick, I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say your efforts are admirable and above and beyond what most members of this community contribute. I'm sure everyone appreciates your hard work.

Having said that, I'm going to wait for the Glossy White N9. If you happen to come across one, please let me know. Good luck sourcing N9s for the others.

Sign me up for that, I'm pretty sure most people looking for a 64gb can tolerate that price, it seems to be the most fair so far.

Thanks. I've been sorta lucky that a lot of folks I know overseas have been ultra-helpful. Some absorbing the costs of having a month sim-card in some situations... or I've been absorbing the shipping fees.

Gotta get my connections and myself out of the middle. Just wish I could get one or two merchants to say "Yeah! We'll gladly help you and your friends" and not have it at the higher prices like Expansys.

If you want a full review, I'll give you one with some more time with the device.

But first impressions... the UI is not bad at all, something that is more "right" than "wrong" in ways that I felt like WP7 had gotten more right than wrong, but was incomplete.

The UI is quite nice, easy for one hand operation. I can go from one thing to another in record time. A few odd things for me - like how the contacts are handled and how I had to set up a Mail for Exchange account just to pull out the contacts from my main GMail account aren't exactly stuff I'd consider pluses at the moment.

But the browser is damn swift. The apps that are there feel "right". I've already drifted into developer mode on the phone, but so far no need to do any of that yet. Maps takes a second to start up, but the fix is damn quick.

I'm not a fan of the contracts - but they're all there. I like the mail app, beats iOS, on par with the ICS (4.0) for tablet gmail variant, love the notifications, amazed at how I lived without the twitter feed on my messages/notifications swipe - I seriously think that this was done better than iOS 5 and Android... the controls are pretty tight and "stylish" and it just feels swift - no slowing down and I've not closed a damn thing.

The camera... it is downright swift. If only there was a dedicated camera button - WP7 got that. Can't upload pics to Twitter (BOO!) yet, but I can MMS and mail them off. The camera is also top notch, just a bit noisy for my likes for anything other than smaller images I don't mind having imperfect. N8 wins on the camera front.

The build... it's heavier than I expected, it's a good heft though. And the screen beats even my Dell Venue Pro AMOLED, beat the HD7S SuperLCD, and beat even my Samsung Captivate AMOLED.

It's nice, it's neat, it works quickly, it's not slowed down, it's older hardware acting like it's newer hardware - feels just as swift if not moreso than my WP7 device.

All in all, I was a skeptic. My OCD won and I had to have the last of the Maemo phones.

Oddly enough, now I have two. And I don't think that I'll be reselling that spare one. I'm a reluctant fan, I see a lot of faults, I partially know they'll never get fixed... but at the same time, I like the N9 as an experience.

Yeah. I expected crap, got a decent phone with a better UI than anything else out there and it fits my type of usage - all but Google Analytics and a few other things I am SORELY missing at the moment because I don't know the alternatives - better than say Android and WP7.

And that's no fanboy based review. I can point out what I call faults as well. They're there... and some bother me. More later if you wish...

Talked to the seller who sent me the N9, he says he will be getting more phones in 20 days, so if you are interested ask me and I can get a good deal with him.

Another thing if anyone interested, he offered me the just announced Nokia 800 for $700 USD, so if anyone here wants to try the upcoming Nokia, then I think you know who to ask. I was esceptic too but he sold me the N9 for a bargain price.

Cheers :)

I agree with everything you said Gerbick. Question: is your wi-fi hotspot working? Mine is not, when clicked on, it says 'Wireless network not allowed'.

I have contacted Joikuspot, and they are saying that they are having this issue with wireless providers in the U.S. I sent them screenshots et all, and I want to work on a patch for this issue if possible; they are working on it as well, but this does not bode well for those in the U.S. Tmobile always allowed wifi hotspot on their android phones, and Joikuspot worked perfectly on my N900...very disconcerting. Let me know, I will start up a thread on this, if there are more people with this issue.

Members nothing... it's above and beyond what NOKIA and its limp, impotent, helpless employees, management and executives have ever contributed to this community. Whatever you think of the harshness of my choice of words, they're ultimately and provably true through Nokia's own carelessness, negligence and inactions. It's incredible that they would effectively devalue, abuse and throw away their own engineers and customers this way.

Ugh. Looks like it is not a Singaporean-crippling then for the phone. Looks like the U.S. was left out of the wifi hotspot party. I received a reply this morning from the fine folks at Joikuspot...

Quote:

Thanks for the pictures.

I have been trying to find a solution to the issue but it seems the problem is either with the phone's 3G functionality or then the operator restricts tethering in their network. Unfortunately we are not able to say for sure as we can't test in similar conditions you have. If the problem is with 3G, it most likely will be fixed when an update to N9 becomes available, within a few weeks. Til then there is nothing we can do about the issue, I'm afraid.

By the way, as far as we know, N9 is not sold in the USA and therefore we are interested to know where you have bought your product. Maybe you could enlighten us?
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us again.
Best regards / Terveisin,
Annie
Joikusoft Customer Support
I replied to her telling her that a few of us on the forum are procuring more N9's and are located in the U.S. I will start a thread on this in the N9 device section now that you have verified, thanks Gerbick. I wanted to first make sure it was not a regional crippling, which it looks like it isn't, it looks like Nokia/Joiku have not authorized U.S. networks in the coding most likely b/c we were not included in the initial launch of this phone. I also asked her if there was a patch via terminal that I could use to bypass this issue, will keep everyone posted on what she says.

EDIT: Here is the new thread I started on Wi-Fi hotspot crippled in the U.S. I have also submitted a bug to Nokia-dev, the link is in the new thread as well.

Re: [REQUEST] Community purchase plan for the Nokia N9

PURCHASE RULES

Hello people, If you have followed the thread you shuold know now that I have a seller who is willing to send me some N9 which in turn I can send wherever you are at from mexico.,

To make this more easier for all parts I will post the rules for this operation

1. First paid, first served. You can send me the money to my Paypal account dcastrog at gmail dot com . The prices: $700 USD for the 16GB and $850 for the 64 GB. with shipping and insurance included (cannot include the custom taxes). Will start taking orders from today, please include your TMO surname, your name, your address and your N9 first choice.

2. Cant assure you that you will get the color or variaton you want. In example if you paid for a 64GB and I only could got a 16GB you will be asked first (in order of payment) if you want me to send that one or wait until I get what you asked for. If you accept it I will send you the second choice device with the remaining money to your paypal account. If not, you will have to wait until I get your first choise. The phones are unlocked and unbranded.

3. Shipments will be made via DHL from mexico to wherever you live. Will send you your tracking number to your email address. If I need more money for shipping you will be asked accordinly. Will mark it as a gift or lower the custom declaration in case you ever have to pay custom taxes.

4. Please be PATIENT. I'm just an intermediary, I have no interest in scamming or whatever. Im also risking my internet prestige with this so Im really doing this as a favour since I came here asking for help too. Take in account that I sent this guy my money too without knowing him in person and that was also a risk for me, so we are all in the same boat. This is where I got my N9.

5. If you cannot be patient or found a better deal I can also offer you your full money back, take in consideration that paypal may charge commisions.

6. This guy offers 30 days warranty with him, not with Nokia, so be warned. I will check the phones when I get them to make sure they dont have deffects before send them out to you.

7. If you agree to all these rules, then welcome.

Also, as said before he has got some Nokia 800 Windows Mango in ready to ship in three colors, starting at $700 USD. If anyone interested.

Questions? Can be made here or directly at my email address.

cheers,
dcastrog

Do you know if DHL charges the same if the phone is sent to Costa Rica instead of USA?

Yeah, its probably easier to get a carrier branded version than a "pure" one so to speak. Who knows for sure. In any case, it doesn't really bother me at all, since I mostly don't see it. Having used a lot of subsidized devices over the past few years (I only recently got the N8 and before that, it was the N85) this stuff is par for the course. Honestly, this is the least intrusive carrier branding i have seen, a few links and splash screen? fine by me.

I see that this price does include shipping; however that's still sorta a premium. You might want to offer alternative shipping for folks - I have a FedEx account, you can use that account (free to set up) and thus they'll have options on shipping and perhaps drive the price down and you'll have to do nothing but obtain that account number... it's how I've been sending back and forth so far.

Just a thought. Thanks for helping out the others.

Hey guys... if you have a Chinese made or Finnish made N9, or if you have a branded N9, care to answer a question?

On your box, what color is your sticker with the barcode? White? Blue? And does yours list a dealer name? And if so, is yours branded as well?

I want to see if there's a pattern. Thanks in advance.
