Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

Oh I forgot, also it will be nice if you had an option to show or hide the rom file name, they look a lot better without it, like when you are in the selecting cover screen.

:) I know these things are far from being a priority but we have fine piece of software here, it deserves those little details :)

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

The actual size used for thumbnails is 480x280.
Customizing how thumbnails are displayed is a tricky thing. The main reason it's hard is resolution of screenshots. They can differ so much in size that I decided to scale them all.
I think the best option would be to render screenshots onto templates, but it can slow down application a little (I think it would be not even noticeable). I will think about it, I will test it.
Option to hide filenames is not a problem, I will add it to the next version, rendering filenames instead "No Screenshot".
Thank you for your templates and ideas, such ideas makes this software better and better :)

How about Amiga OS, is it posible to run Workbensh and such environment on this Emu....?
Have anyone try it...?

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

Well, I should say you should wait for the release where Amiga is greatly updated, because its emulation is currently limited, sorry.

Well, I guess they would be able to *run* a PS2 emulator if someone made an effort seeing they have enough RAM, but it would be pointless as it would be much much too slow because the CPU is too weak. Like 2% of the original speed, if you're lucky. Even a state-of-the-art computer struggle with some games in PCSX2, so it will take a long time before a mobile phone is powerful enough to play PS2 games well. 5 years I'm sure, maybe even a decade.

That was discussed recently - maybe even in this thread. If you want a PS2 emulator to run games in a satisfying way, the answer is short and simple:

No, it's not possible at this time.

You can get Golden Sun 2 run on EmuMaster? It seem to crash (restarted) everytime when starting new game!

No it doesn't work for me, too.
But I didn't delete it, I'm waiting for updates and hope it gets fixed.

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

I have a question:

In GBA where do EmuMaster keep the .sav file? Where should i put the .sav file if I wanna load the save file from other emulator? (Can I?)

Thanks in advance.

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

And what about NDS? There was a DesMuMe compiled for N900, but the device was just too slow, maybe N9 could pull it of. Anyone tried yet?

How is the work progressing on emumaster? :)

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

Ouch, I made a mistake with Dragon Ball: Advance Adventure. I added it as perfect without enough time playing. The audio is good but gets messy when the character moves. Auto-save doesn't work as it freezes the level and I have to restart the emulated system. I can't edit the entry in google docs, someone please edit it to "Partial" with those bugs if possible.

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

Ditto on where is the .sav file stored, would really appreciate that ability, would allow me to transfer my 250 pkmn from my psp :D

elemental 2012-07-06 17:51

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

EmuMaster has its own state format which differs from emulators on PSP, that is .sav is not compatible.

optimaxxx 2012-07-06 18:00

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

oh, so even an in-game "Save" is still processed as a save state by the program?

If you mean in-game as emulation of internal flash:
GBA - true (for now)
PSX - false

optimaxxx 2012-07-06 18:05

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

ahk, is there anyway i could integrate a standard sav file?

fyi, time and effort are effectively limitless atm, am on holidays

elemental 2012-07-06 18:16

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

You haven't specified which emu are you using. I suppose it is gpsp - GBA emulator on PSP. There is no common "standard" in saving state files. EmuMaster has its own state model, which makes easy displaying thumbnails and many other things. And it's not compatible with .SAV from gpsp, sorry.

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

Why did you have to go and use logic?

It was all worked out until you just had to go and use logic..

Haha, so, any chance you could add an ips patcher into your emulator?

Loving your sixaxis implementation, currently attempting to get it going for me. Is there a specific reason why the wiki is blank for window users?

ALthough something i'm not having any luck understanding at all is "create an icon for home screen"

what it is actually supposed to do?

cheers!

gonna go grab me some stir-fry now, it's actually 4:40 am, woops

*edit, and what're your thoughts on making emumaster more like stock video/music apps?
Being able to just load up emuM then clicking directly on a game without having to select what system it's on, which is really such a console-ist view of things.

Down with aparthied!

elemental 2012-07-06 20:25

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

The help system will be integrated into the application, I will delete current wiki and create entirely new website.

"Icon for home screen" - see this post: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=447

Although icons at home screen are good idea, but your one (to look like stock mmedia apps) is good one too :)
I will give it a shot.

I discovered with a little sadness that the states are not saved neither in backups nor in MyDocs (like, after a reflash :) )... Do you think it would be possible to save the states in MyDocs, or have an option to export them?

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

with 64gb of space if all games were listed at once it would be a hassle to get to what you wanted to load please dont change the selection process, maby add a star option to put the game to the top of the list in the individual console emulation.
keep up the good work emu master is the best thing on the n9 for me

Yeah, state exporter is in my TODO list

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

@stoobs
You're completely right, I was just exhausted and not thinking clearly at the time.
I was thinking something more likethis: top row is your recent games, and below is as is now.

Although I've had a much better idea which I'll pm to elemental later, when I can make a mock up.

Although I have some points to make:
Individual button resizing? Eg, my d-pad is plenty big, but start/select are too small.
Fast-forward? Essential in Pokemon games, and just makes large parts of many more palatable.
Quick save/load buttons on screen? Probably handled in exact same manner as the shoulder buttons.
Option for game to be at original resolution, maybe eventually support portrait play? With gba games would be sweet, potentially tiny, but sometimes potential nostalgia is worth it, plus I'd find it more comfortable to hold.

Disclaimer, all my ideas have been prompted through the gba emulator, so they may not be best fits for the other emus, my apologies.

*Edit: Just checked wiki, and it explains how create icons should work, and for gba games, it's completely fried. Doesn't actually display a selection area to be moved around

elemental 2012-07-08 14:17

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

You can resize d-pads already. Start/Select are not frequently used, so they are small - there is no place on screen to make them bigger really.
I thought about quick save/load as volume buttons as an option. Also L3/R3 on sixaxis would have the same function.
0, 90, 180, 270 degree displaying - on my list

Currently you can click to select area for the icon, but it should be achievable by moving too - it will make the process clear and easy -TODO

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

Can't see that this has been asked before so I will shoot this out there,

Any idea on wether it would be possible for a future release to contain support for Nintendo DS emulation?

Im not sure if the nintendo ds is easy or difficult to emulate but it would be amazing if it worked, be nice to play Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver without luggin a DS around :p

I know NDS wouldnt be next priority.

I was asking if it is at all possible on the N9 to emulate a Nintendo DS to a playable extent?

elemental 2012-07-09 16:31

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

Well, NDS has ARM processor (actually two), so it will be easy one to emulate. I cannot say for sure, I have mixed feelings because I have not good knowledge about this particular platform, yet. I will not say yes or no, sorry.

Hmm well then maybe it will be fine to emulate and very playable :)

But the issue will be handling the screen arrangement I think, it would have to be portrait for the N9 and each screen would need to be scaled down to fit the N9's screen..

That will be tricky :(

Kozzi 2012-07-09 16:46

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

Would it be a big task to have the screensize decreased so that it wont overlap with buttons? Since quite often I find my left thumb covering game characters. I have only played around with gba so no idea if others have this too.

elemental 2012-07-09 17:03

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

Scaling, rotating the displayed image is the easy part. The hardest is to compose buttons in portrait mode. Speaking of buttons, you are able to make your own skin by replacing /opt/emumaster/data/buttons.png. It would help me a lot if someone would make them for me :) I will make an option to select the skin in the upcoming version.

optimaxxx 2012-07-09 17:10

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

are you looking for anything in particular in theming?

I would love to have seperate icons for say, gba and psx.

I always confuse x,o with a,b.

I understand that you feel larger start/sel buttons would be unattractive/unfeasible/useless, but if it is possible, and not that hard, I'd recommend enabling it.

Nobody complains about haveing a few extra options, right? ;)

elemental 2012-07-09 17:24

Re: EmuMaster 0.3.0

To make larger start/select I must change the layout of buttons - again. I would stay right now with the current design. I have an idea of how to make buttons layout fully customizable, i.e. skin theme+layout in config file. But higher priority tasks consume my time.

Hi! I really like your work, keep on going!

I would love to see Gb emulation too (if its not possible with GBA emu, havent tried)
Also have a bug to report, when playing Mario & Luigi - Superstar Saga, game will sometimes freeze with very bizarre sound, wasted 3 hours of gameplay (my own fault for not saving :) Seems to appear randomly, havent tried with any other game yet.
