Can someone explain to me what kind of problem this could be? How can the problem be with sending the update OTA in the UK, and if it's a problem with sending the update OTA how will merging the updates help? And people in the UK can update to global firmware OTA so cant they just slap the UK firmware on that same server or something?!

It doesnt make sense, there is nothing i can think of specific to the UK firmware that could break it, can someone explain.

I assume if they do have some kind of regional variant difference for the UK then that is why the update isn't put on the global thinggy (you can tell i'm technical!! - I'm trying to learn though!) as if they put the UK one on there then everyone will see a new update and will get the UK one instead of Worldwide or something.
The issue though isn't purely UK which is odd. Apparently some people in the UK HAVE had the update but also, some users in Finland using the global update haven't got theirs either. :)

I would not have asked the question if there 100 pages of people asking it before me :rolleyes:

Also if the problem is OTA why havnt nokia released the latest firmware for nokia updater?!

Just doesnt seem to make sense, i think wes79's bloke was talking poop

He might have been cartoon, the only reason i kind of believed him was that he seemed knowledgable around the last update. I asked if like last time we NEED the minor update in order to get the major one. He said that the previous one was different and was dependant on the minor one, but they decided not to do that this time.

I guess at the end of the day, errors and issues arise and they have a solution that is probably cost effective to them! Why spend money resolving an issue like a minor update which isn't critical when they can add the files to a mjor update going out in a couple of weeks and spend the same amount of money originally budgeted!

This is NOT me saying I believe it is right, but putting a business/cost effective head on, I guess I can see why they say, 'well, its not critical, we'll add it on the next one in a weeks time!'

Do you know if people in Finland have been able to update via the nokia updater?

Good point. I didn't ask that actually. Also, on a similar note, is anyone in here from Finalnd that hasn't had it OTA?? That's something else we haven't heard. Maybe they don't care as much as us? Or maybe, they whinge less?! ha ha ha :D :D

I suppose that makes sense, they are hardly saving on there budget if all the UK users are downloading the 170mb or whatever to get the global firmware though! Anyway, i think i am finally ready to sit back and forget about the firmware till it pops up on my phone, it's only a little one anyway. :)

My bastardised n900 is functioning (see yesterdays post for details). However if there is anyone reading this with an upgraded mr0 (generic), could they do:

ls -la /etc/hildon-desktop/

and post the result?

FWIW the battery life seems better, but that could just be wishful thinking.
