Very nice looking hardware, and it seems Nokia is going to support GNU/Linux for this device the same way they did after they released the 770, n800 and n810. Sweet!

Yes, it is disappointing to see Windows on there, but as volt pointed out, for netbooks, you either use Windows or you're Apple.

Carr stressed that, in these cases, it doesn’t even matter how good or bad the Linux OS is. These customers just don’t want to try something new. “We said a long time ago, we didn’t want to make a Windows clone. It has a different interface especially with the Ubuntu Netbook Remix. We think it’s a better way but it’s not the same way people are used to. That unfamiliarity can take a while to learn and there is an education that has to be stressed.”

Probably not, but I'm thinking on how Apple has used its success in the digital audio player and mobile phone markets to increase the percentage of people willing to give products in its traditional market a try. A solid, well-priced Booklet may be part of a mirroring strategy by Nokia to achieve greater success in North America.

At any given time, the closest that Microsoft should be near you is about 3 meters.

As has been proven over and over and over and over again by history.

My opinion here is that Nokia has to somehow find a way to convince carriers to allow iPhone, Blackberry, etc users to use the same sim (with unlimited data) on the Nokia Booklet.

As an iPhone/Mac user, I will definitely get a Nokia Booklet (even if it runs Windoze 7) if this happens.

Oh, let's not forget that Apple stuff today is built over UNIX, so it's "rock solid", while windows 7 also uses "NT technology" (do people still know what that is? :D ). Linux also has UNIX technology, of course, but it's not built by hired pros, you know. What are your guarantees?

With Windows, your satisfaction is guaranteed! Plus, it costs less, there are studies that show it. And there is of course the learning curve thing...

For big companies Linux is just a political stick to show during negotiations with Microsoft. :p

And is also the system that idealistic geeks will waste their times porting themselves to each new machine so they can finally start using them for their work, X months after everybody else.

Really? Because my Dell netbook comes with Ubuntu, supported by the vendor. And you can get them from HP that way, as well.

I can understand not doing ONLY Linux netbooks. Both Dell and HP offer Windows, as well. But to ONLY offer Windows? ... nope.

Amen, brother.

3 meters is still close enough for transmission of airborne viruses.

I say, if it's close enough to see, it's close enough to cause damage.

Johnkzin, can you explain why you hate Windows so much?

When Ari Jaaksi proposed that Linux developers start trying to understand business models and working around IP, people went ape****. I'm afraid the mindset behind that sort of overreaction is one thing that keeps Linux out of the corporate world-- well, that and the cost-benefit support analyses I've seen favoring fewer platforms (on Excel spreadsheets :D).
