I don't know how to run your script. Sorry. I have a stupid brain.

I first just ran it in Xterm, the 2nd time I typed in "cd /media/mmc2" first and then ran this again...

mkdir gvoice_junk
cd gvoice_junk
unzip PATH_TO_ZIP/generate.zip
python2.5 generate_gv_samples.py myname password
vi *.html # Or preferred text editor, to sanitize any sensitive information
zip PATH_TO_PLACE_ZIP/results.zip *.html

I have not previously announced this publicly due to lack of documentation (affects my time table) and I am concerned what the end user experience will actually be like. I don't like keeping it quiet though so I thought I'd mention this.

It is not in any kind of working state right now. I am unsure if I will build support in for RTComm for the n8x0. My main target is the Desktop and n900. Due to how slow development is going I will probably not make Maemo Summit for this. At least there should be Dialcentral available in time for Maemo Summit for the n900.

I expect the initial release will only work with people on your contact list and maybe only 1 number per contact. I hope to have both texting (including receiving voicemails as texts) and initiating calls though one or the other might be dropped for initial release.

In Summary: The One Ring is vaporware but I'm excited for it.

I'm very interested. How and when can we see a alpha version of it? I'm also intersted in the desktop version. I'm assuming Linux. I like Ubuntu.

I ended up changing the download location from a zip file of a python script to just the python script and forgot to update my instructions. Maybe this makes it a bit clearer?

Code:

$ mkdir gvoice_junk
$ cd gvoice_junk
$ python2.5 WHERE_DOWNLOADED_TO/generate_gv_samples.py USERNAME PASSWORD

Note: I did update the script for some minor things so please go up and get a new copy

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I uploaded 1.0.7-2 to extras-devel which has more user notifications

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Sorry but I'm confused on what to do.

I have your script5271cojg downloaded and untouched on my internal memory card inside a folder called gvoice_junk

In Xterm I'm entering this:
[1|user@Nokia-N800-43-7|~]cd gvoice_junk
[1|user@Nokia-N800-43-7|~/gvoice_junk]python2.5 media/mmc1/gvoice_junk/generate_gv_samples.py Addison password
python2.5: can't open file 'media/mmc1/gvoice_junk/generate_gv_samples.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory
[1|user@Nokia-N800-43-7|~/gvoice_junk]

Obviously I'm dumb. A little help here please?

Edit:
When I downloaded your script on my tablet it asked me to name the file but "script5271cojg" is what it ended being in my gvoice_junk folder.
I think it's still zipped there but when I double clicked it in Emelfm2 it didn't unzip it like it usually does with other zip files.

Hey epage.

This is what I'm seeing on my end.

http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/6...9100314452.png

I finally got the python script to run off of my memory card (sorry, I don't know linux) but it gave me like 18 heptendecillion errors.

I really hate times like these when I don't know what the hell I'm doing. :)

Okay.

I can log on with version 1.0.7-2 from my other tablet.

So what files or folders can I copy over to fix this in a simple way that I could understand?

Well I emailed all the files from my /home/user/.diacentral folder

dialcentral.log
gv_cookies.txt
settings.ini

That didn't work

I also just deleted /home/usr/.gvoice_junk out of frustration I guess.

And I was in such a good mood! :)

I had this happen in previous installs when I failed to log in on the first attempt. The second works but I was still told login fails when I attempted to do anything. I had to close and restart the application in order to get it to work.

To remove everything I purged using:
apt-get --purge dialcentral
Then manually removing the ini file in /home/user/.dialcentral and the file located in /usr/lib/dialcentral

Think this method removes everything

I didn't really have a lot of conversations to test it with. So I sent myself texts just now "1", "2", "3", ...

I found the issue and it is resolved. Next package I make should have it fixed.

As mentioned I think I fixed the collapsing issue. Could you provide a log with the multiple sms issue? I've not heard anyone report that one yet.

EDIT: Also which tab did you select SMS option from when you've hit this?

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

** Feature request**
Link messages/recent calls list to contacts page.

It appears that DC downloads your contact list on login. Would it be possible to link your recent calls list to you contacts list? So from the recent calls list, I click the caller ant the window pops up with either an option to go to the contact so you can see all their numbers, or simply list all the numbers. I'm having a hard time explaining what I mean so I'll draw a picture.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

So I just pushed 1.0.7-3 to extras-devel

Besides somethings brought up here, I've gotten some feedback on Fremantle issues and I have tried to make fixes for them. Dialcentral should now be usable on a n900 from what I hear.
  • Fix for collapsing conversations
  • Protection from sending empty texts
  • Debugging help on the random callback number issue
  • Random cleanups and code fixes
  • Fremantle Fix: Can't activate rows (TreeView changed in that you can't select things which I relied upon)
  • Fremantle Fix: Error with changing callback number (python-hildon varied a little bit between Fremantle and Mer)

I need to go to sleep so I can't wait to test the package (people end up getting to test the package before me anyways even when I don't pre-announce them). So run at your own risk but I would love to hear from Fremantle users to know if I should even push to extras-testing and help me with pushing to "Extras".

There are still two known issues on Fremantle
  • Messages aren't shown properly in the messages tab
  • Buttons are a little small

I haven't investigated the first one of those. That'll be a weird one to debug. From the descriptions I was given, I at least have a hint as to what the issue might be.

The second is easier due to public documentation on it but from all the public documentation and source I've read, it doesn't look like setting the size of buttons to be thumb friendly is in PyMaemo yet.

To me it sounds like the main issue is when you have a contact with multiple numbers, you would like to be able to switch which number you reply to? Does that sound correct?

That is part of it yes. I might miss a call from someone driving home and would rather contact them on their home phone later on, ect. The other part is streamlining your replying to sms and calls.(ignore the girl on the top, she was there to make you look)

Once you click on a message you are presented with the option to reply right away, or you can select the other options from the bottom. It gives you more flexibility than you have now (linked to your address book), less clicks to get where you may be going (one click reply to text), and still keeps the options to dial or cancel. You can use the same interface in the recent calls list as well, keeping all the functionality and making it a little more streamlined.

Very nice!

Okay, so before when I clicked on the message tab, I could click on any message and then it would highlight it so I could respond back by SMS.

Now when I click on a message nothing happens.

No highlight, no poop squat, no screw you message. Nothing.

Also, how does one expand collapsed messages? I got slammed with 10 of them but they're not showing, it only says that they are hidden.

I switched from single selection to no selection. It means you don't select and then double tap, just double. The downside is no visual indicator. This was a change I was experimenting with to try and match the behavior on Fremantle. With fremanlte it does provide a visual indicator with no-selection.

Thoughts on this are appreciated.

The only way is to view it in the sms entry dialog. Some were ok with this, I don't know if its ok for everyone though. I am currently undecided with what direction I want to take this part.

Addison 2009-10-09 19:58

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Okay, that's fine.

Could you at least make the SMS entry screen fit the entire length of the screen though?

The way it's set right now cuts off text when reading.

I'm mostly in the clear now on my NDA so I wanted to provide a

Thank You Nokia

for sponsoring Dialcentral for Fremantle support by loaning me an n900.

The n900 is amazing.

Dialcentral runs well but still has some minor non-showstopper issues.

For those that don't know, there is a 10 day waiting period plus 10 karma point requirement to advance from extras-testing to extras.

So for those at Maemo Summit with devices, please test Dialcentral and give it some thumbs up love.

Dude, just had a look over at your project's page.

I can't believe how many builds you've made for this!

You released your first version way back in the year 1970?

I'm surprised that you're not sick to death of DialCentral by now. :)

Around 1.0.0 I had this project almost in maintenance mode but then there became an explosion of (very good) suggestions. Right now I'm trying to get the quality up to not detract from the beauty of Maemo 5. I really see telepathy-theonering as the way to provide some of the UI stuff people are wanting.

Maybe if I get these two projects into maintenance mode I can work on other really cool stuff :)

Hey Epage,
I love the new changes. It looks like you took some of my thoughts in mind. I'm unable to double click to select anything. In order to click anything I have to touch it once then use the D-Pad middle button to select it. Once I do I noticed you included the reply window! I also see the tele number at the bottom being selectable but does not have the other numbers in there quite yet. I haven't tested it much but I do like the changes you made! Keep it up my friend.

** I've gone back to using the GV-notifier for the included sound option. I noticed you mentioned bugs/issues as the reason you have not incorporated the code into DC. I have yet to notice anything wrong with it and was wondering what you were referring to.

As of the last package I made, that selection button is only useful from the contacts tab. In SVN I've added support for it for the Recent and Messages tabs. A bit more work is needed on it though.

In the gv_notifier thread people had mentioned issues with system sound or something. Its also one more feature I would not use which would make it more onerous for testing. I would love it if someone would pick up development of gv_notifier, preferably by getting the sound notification working through the back door I provide in the settings file.

I accidently started DialCentral when my internet connection was apparently down.

At first it gave me an error saying that it couldn't authenticate.

Tried a minute later and it logged me in but without a Callback number.

It wont let me select my Callback number anymore from the selection of numbers.

If I type in my number manually, my only choice is to hit Cancel.

I'm back to being out of luck again. :(

Edit:
Nevermind. I guess you tap the Callback number to which the Tablet invisibly selects it because nothing happens onscreen. To confirm it's center D-Pad. Strange programming you got there. :)

As I previously explained with Messages and Recent, I disabled selection and you just double click on an item. As I said above, I wonder if this should go :(

As for manually entering in a number, for a keyboard its fairly natural to then just press Enter (which would also be center D-Pad. I guess I should contemplate having this UI design go also :(

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Yeah, the whole double clicking feature isn't doing it for me.

Like it's not even working kind of thing. *lol*

Double clicking my Callback number at various speeds does nothing.

Tried numerous times double clicking messages but the only thing it does is scroll the screen a little.

The whole no highlighting, double clicking nothing happening, center D-Pad weirdness is a strange direction that this project is headed towards.

At least it's still functional. :)

Addison 2009-10-10 05:35

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

For me, I would like to see:

Full window when sending SMS. The way it is right now it keeps expanding after every letter when you get to a certain point.

Number of remaining letters that can be used is hidden under the hildon keyboard. Can this be placed on top of the screen instead?

I don't care for ever using the D-pad. Not sure if it's my tablet but it's not a very soft and relaxing button to use.

Don't care for collapsed hidden messages. When it loads messages is it possible to just autoscroll to the end?

Maybe in the Accounts options you could have a shortcut key that sends you directly to Google Voice by web browser so one could delete old messages this way. Not that big on this idea though.

Just glad you're still with us and are cool about receiving feedback from us. :)
