Delivery of Nokia N900 stock into our Nokia stores has unfortunately been delayed by two weeks to w/c 16th November. The delivery when it arrives will be the first N900 stock in the UK and orders will be dispatched on a first ordered, first serve, basis directly from our Nokia stores.

I got the above yesterday (before MPD sent the similar email out today). A day or two after the 16th would be my guess... Who knows though  I'm hoping it's Friday the 13th :D

So what's this HTC Leo thing like?....

I reckon they have just maxed out their preorders and have no clue when they will be able to order anymore for now.

I would email / call them about it though...

With so many apps and libs still needing to be optified I am not surprised that they pushed the day back. I mean, if that is not ready many other things could be still half baked as well. I am really happy that Nokia had the courage to delay the thing. I just hope that when they do release it it is able to fly and that the experience is a good one, especially for all the people I have steered into getting it.

I called this morning and they swore blue they would dispatch on Monday. As nokia themselvs aren't dispatching till the following week, I don;t really velieve them.

I tried calling this evening and got held in a very long queue (and gave up). I will see if they email over night,, and maybe call again in the morning.

Optification of apps in Extras is a community effort with help from select Nokia folks, with minimal impact on Nokia's release schedule, so don't jump to conclusions based on that. The N900 will ship when it ships regardless if next weekend I go to a pub with my buddies or spend that time on the testing (optification check including) marathon :)

I've got a pre-order with Amazon.co.uk (from 17th Oct) and it still shows an estimated delivery time of 2nd November.

Something I found a bit bizzare was that the original Nokia Pre-Order flash advertisement on Amazon's site used to take you to the Amazon pre-order page and not Nokia's.

However the same style advert for the N97 Mini would take you to the Nokia.co.uk website for the pre-order.

I really hope that Nokia and Amazon teamed up on this and Amazon have now reached their pre-order quota.

If not then the Sony Ericsson Rachael (X10) is looking like a mighty alternative, announcing on the 3rd Nov.

Can you refresh and view your order? My order page has changed - I can no longer specifically view that order: just my general orders list. I have a nasty suspicion Amazon have cancelled all orders.

They haven't. But right now, if you do a search for n900, it doesn't show at all. You can access the page if you have the link (as in it's still there). But they are obviously changing something. The just aren't clear what yet. :(

Which is what I just said: they have apparently withdrawn it from sale but their current orders presently remain unchanged.

Either there's some big mix up reason why they withdrew it, and they will inform the customers who preordered in due time. Or they really did sell out their pre-orders.

But why must they delete it complete off the page?

If I were to guess I think they're in the process of moving it to November 9th. There's probably a period before the new values propagate to all servers so it's in a "you can't preorder it" state.

Oh there's plenty to worry about: global warming, death of the rain forests, demise of the dolphins in the Yangtse river, Tony Blair becoming EU president, England being thrashed at cricket in South Africa, will Silverstone get formula one, will the world end in 2012, will that save us paying for the olypics, Tony of Corrie has had a heart attack...

But your n900? It's utterly zen. It will happen, but you cannot speed it up. You cannot push the river upstream. Amazon resounds to the sound of one hand clapping... I'm sure they'll tell us in the morning.

Rumour has it that many Nokia handsets were dispatched with beta debug software on it that in the background sent text after text to Nokia to report and faults with the original 300 prototypes that went out at the Maemo Summit. I think that this was accidently left into a few batches being shipped round the world which would have ment users without knowing it sending multiple sms messages on an international number. I can only assume they are taking the stock back to the countries such as sweden etc and making sure they are flashed with correct firmware.

Seems kind of dubious. 160 chars seems highly inefficient to send debug info as.

Rumour has it that Dell ships keyloggers in their laptops and the AIM service harvests all of your IMs and uses them as they see fit.

@ OptX, could be true. I doubt they would put it otherwise :S

Actually, they would put it so more people would order from them thinking they would get the device earlier than said by Nokia, though there is probably a 3% chance they're telling the truth since we've seen this happen several times now, but don't keep your hopes up...

Re: N900 shipping delayed

Interesting.

First, Jerz did not get his device as part of the 300 Summit devices. I'm not sure how he got his device; I don't remember him saying, actually. Perhaps Eldar gave him his one. That would explain the covert SMS messages!

Secondly, his story makes no sense. The crash reporter activated in most of the N900's earlier firmware builds sends data via the Internet, not SMS. The data being sent can easily be a megabyte or more, so SMS doesn't make any sense as a method to send reports.

Thirdly, covert SMS messages that leave no trace on the device is not a very Maemo Devices thing to do.

So I think there are three choices here, listed in order of likelihood: (1) The N900 didn't send any secret SMS messages at all, and Jerz is getting scammed by an identity thief or his carrier, (2) Jerz got an illegal device which had a "bug" or "tracer" put in it to track its location, or (3) Jerz' N900 was the first Maemo 5 device "in the wild" to get infected with a trojan!

Or the device had a random build of software with some developer debug code in it. The code might simply have been sending status reports for test purposes and not be related to the crash reporter or any other feature.

That is also a possibility; it is a variant of (2) in my list, that he got an illegal / illicit device with firmware never intended to go outside the walls of Nokia. Reading through that entire thread, several comments Jerz makes suggests that this is probably what happened.

this thread states he never got is n900 from nokia,
is followers started a petition b/c nokia recently turned him down for a production unit, maybe b/c they dont like that he got a proto unit leaked to him early so now they making him pay.
