anything that involves modifying your device voids the warrenty, but provided you can flash back to the orig kernel (which is all that is changed currently) nokia wont be able to tell anything

I have a question though, is it possible to modify Android in such a way that you can run Maemo and hildon applications? Or is the source of vital parts of Maemo closed?

No. Android is a pseudo-Java based system that doesn't use any of the standard libraries or interfaces that Maemo uses. You would have to rewrite an application almost entirely to make it run on Android.

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

chroot to nokia fs works and that then uses nokia libs so it could work i dont know that way out of my league to try

What about chrooting the libraries into the Android environment? it would seam seamless and would only require that one installed the program and it could even automatically make shortcuts even...

well maybe you flshed wrong kernel especially when you posted this in 3 diff topics. its well known nitdroid is NOT production ready yet (hell it doesn even have wifi) so shouldn be flashed unless you have an idea what your doing. reflash the kernel from whatever maemo your runninf... command is a few pages back and maemo will boot straight up

OK, for the dev rig you have, if we all put in for this little bunddle, that would help right??? 100 donations of £1 and we almost there!!!

e: I know its not an amazing system, but should definitely speed things up. Or, if your anywhere near manc, pop round to mine and you can use my 2.8ghz i7 system :D!

Quit spamming threads. Reflash to Maemo. Wait for a user release (as you clearly need to wait for it).

Poor argument.

Creating another thread would make it easier for others experiencing the same problem to find a solution. And ofc, get more attention to your problem.

Interesting that you thanked zehjotkah for suggesting you create a proper topic, yet you continue to try to hijack this thread...

as i need to build a dev system which is pretty quiet and i like the little atom cpus too

Got an i5 system here, four cores, 2.80GHz, can be overclocked to 3.20GHz.
It's quite quick when compiling, as long as you utilize the four cores.
When I was compiling the custom kernel for host mode it took about 10 minutes, but I recompiled the kernel today with -j 4 (uses 4 cores) and it finished in less than 2 minutes! (after a make clean and make distclean of course).

dj_steve 2010-05-20 17:13

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

yep well the atoms are quick actually (that link above has a atom 330 onboard so its true dualcore 1.6 whereas system im using at min has single 1.8ghz sempron lol

MohammadAG 2010-05-20 17:18

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

Well a 1.6GHz atom isn't faster than a 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo :)
Atoms are generally made for low power usage. Your 1.8GHz CPU might be faster!
(Laptop I'm on is a 1.7GHz Intel Centrino lol)

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

To be honest if you're looking for an AMAZING processor on a budget...AMD is the way forward! Phenom II lately are incredibly cheap! and they are backwards compatible (the sockets), iv found bundles with ram, mobo and cpu with an AMD cpu in it to be cheaper than an Intel cpu alone...horrendously overpriced imo :/

not possible because of:

Android uses its own proprietary (i.e. Android-only) framebuffer setup. You'd be stuck doing whatever icky JNI setup they have, and wasting memory and storage space duplicating a bunch of stuff.
