Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
Does anyone experience slow catalog update since yesterday? Usually it takes 1-2 mins (I have all extra, testing, devel...). But it has taken 9-10 mins since yesterday.

yes 9 - 13 min

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
Yea, it's been taking me a while as well to update my catalogs. I guess all we can do is give it some time to see if it speeds back up.

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
I am having problems updating the Extras-devel repo, all others work fine.
Devel repo works fine in native appman but not in Fapman. I tried to update them one at a time and devel was the weak link. Any ideas as to why? Fixed. Changed "Fremantle" to "fremantle". Odd how a capital letter can screw things up. I wonder why they say that a " mobile computer with telephone functionality " is smarter than a human. |
Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
As of today, Fapman is spontaneously quitting on me when trying to fetch date information on packages (either while attempting to access Install/Upgrade, or when querying Changelogs)..
Anyone else having this trouble? |
Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
no trouble for me at the mo'; slowdowns of days past gone....

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
Version 0.6.7
* fix: blacklist can get unintentionally cleared * fix: show free space correctly for large filesystems * connect to default network access point if there is no connection * scale package icons to proper size in the package details dialog * menu item to re-import repository settings from HAM * automatically disable the ovi repository on import * minor UI tweaks |
Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
Question- I deleted and then added the extras (+dev, etc.) repos to try and fix a conflicting repo problem. I guess it still isn't fixed but now fappman refuses to recognize the new repos. Anything I can plug in the terminal to make it "see" them?

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
Where do I find the log file? I keep getting unknown error.
Can't install or upgrade applications. HAM works fine. |

Thanks. Log gave these results. Any ideas on fixing this? Reading package lists... Building dependency tree... Reading state information... The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required: libtpsession libqtm-serviceframework libqt4-declarative libqtm-multimedia libqtm-publishsubscribe libconninet0 libqtm-messaging qtm-modest-plugin libpoppler2 dsme-thermalobject-surface libqtm-versit libconnsettings0 libqtm-bearer libqt4-translations libtelepathy-qt4-0 libqtm-systeminfo Hmm, seems like the AutoRemover destroyed something which really shouldn't happen. Please file a bug report against apt. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: qtm-maemo-metapackage: Depends: libqtm-bearer (>= 1:1.0.2-maemo1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libqtm-messaging (>= 1:1.0.2-maemo1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libqtm-multimedia (>= 1:1.0.2-maemo1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libqtm-publishsubscribe (>= 1:1.0.2-maemo1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libqtm-serviceframework (>= 1:1.0.2-maemo1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libqtm-systeminfo (>= 1:1.0.2-maemo1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libqtm-versit (>= 1:1.0.2-maemo1) but it is not going to be installed E: Internal Error, AutoRemover broke stuff |
Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
Hi, would it be possible to add an option to the app to reinstall already installed packages? Like on commandline when using apt-get install --reinstall <package>. It's sometimes needed to fix things (like going back from u-boot to power-kernel) but apt-get on commandline uses HAM's sources.list where I have less repos installed as in fapman, therefore reinstall on commandline doesn't work out of the box.
Would be very nice if that could be implemented! :) Thanks in advance! |
Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
Why have you disabled the Ovi repository?
|
Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
I didn't. If you mean power-kernel: it's in extras-devel and not in ovi.
|
Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
The above is not directed to you.
@hqh; Why are you disabling the Ovi repository? |
Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
hqh: have been using fapman for around 30 days now. Funny name (as others have noted ), but...
Fantastic work! Your work has brought a new lease of life to my N900! Without a doubt this is my favourite N900 app. I love fapman more than Angry Birds :D I no longer dread installing/updating/removing packages/software. The built-in App Manager isn't hard to use (although it won't win any interface design prizes), it's just hard to stay awake long enough to achieve your goals with it. apt-get is great for specific surgery, but we need a GUI to get everyday stuff done. Faster Application Manager is a massive improvement on the stock App Manager in every way I can think of. As a result I actually do maintain/prune now and my user experience is sleeker, smoother and generally more productive and more fun. I have no bugs to report yet, and the recent interface update means I now have no interface suggestions either. Please keep developing this (probably Meego will need something similar in the future...?) I have sent you a [very small] token of my appreciation. |
Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
@hqh: is there a "hidden" command which can be triggered
from the command line and updates the catalogs (fapman cache)? i want to use it with alarmed in order to browse offline new packages from extras-devel etc Blues |

It's likely that FAM will be available for the future MeeGo-Harmattan which still uses debian package management. Actual MeeGo uses rpm so it would require a lot more work... I hope that the default package manager UIs of the future OSs are better than Maemo 5's, though. Quote:

Could we please get "kept back" support for apt? I spent time digging conflicts again only to realize latest recaller has been kept back.

seriously, thank you for this faster App Manager, i 'm using it now as a the key program instead of the stock one..

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
Hi, cheers for fapman.
I noticed you updated fapman recently so that it opens a connection (if not open already) but I've found a bug. If I have autodisconnect installed (as I imaging alot of people do) It closes the wifi/data connection after x amounts of minutes. So say I do the following 1. Open fapman, it connects for me and I find what I want to install 2. Someone asks me to do something, I put the phone down and leave it for 10 mins, in which time auto-disconnect disconnects my inactive connection. 3. I come back to the phone, click X, then > to continue. 4. I am given an error about the lack of connection. I hope this helps |
Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
great improvement from the default appman!
i just wanted to mention small details that i didnt see in fapman that was in the original appman and that is the information of how much memory the selected application for download uses when installed and its install size(not just its download size). I have only used this app today so maybe i overlooked those, but at the details page for any application selected for download this information wasnt present. Another suggestion that i would love to see in this app manager is to incorporate the rating/feedback information of all applications available for download. So then evaluating and downloading apps can be done in one place rather than opening the webpage for the app in question too look at rating and feedback. thanks again for this program! |
Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
question...what exactly does update catelogues do? when I open the app am I to always hit that first if I want to get the latest apps? or just hit upgrade applications?
thanks. |
Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)
Since today, fapman stalls at "Operation in progress - reading package list - creating package view" and never shows the packages. I have purged and reinstalled fapman some times, also erasing the /opt/fapman-cache directory, but it always hangs there.
HAM and apt-get work. How can I debug the problem? Thanks |

Upgrading instead means bringing an installed application to a newer version. This requires in first place to have an updated database of available applications (e.g. having run the update). Of course, for updating as well as upgrading you need a connection to the internet. |

Did you have a look at fapamns log (in the menu)? Did you try the commandline tools like in http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=508 ? If so, what do these commands tell you? |
