Hot from the press, e-yes just released voice input, http://forum.nitdroid.com/index.php?topic=459.0
Coupled with ColorNote (from android market), this can become a dictaphone with voice transcription, cool! Using my heavy NorthCarolina accent, here is a 1st attempt: "I m trying you are wonderful. Watkins you do, this is a dictation, using kala nope, if you can be trained. I m done with you, bye bye." Corrected: "I m trying. You are wonderful. What can you do? This is a dictation, using ColorNote, if you can be trained. I m am done with you, bye, bye." Over 90% accuracy, not bad. pics, noted the icon microphone. bun |

xterm sudo gainroot umount /media/mmc1 or just ignore the umount command, continue with your partitioning. when done, reboot, xterm cat /proc/partitions should show a mmcblk1p2 (ext3), if it is there, you are alright and proceed with installation umount error message means a lot of things, most of time, just proceed will be fine. If they are serious, they will warm you the 2nd time, then you would have to think. 1st time umount error message are bogus mostly. Of course this is just a rule of thumb, dont take it as a bible :) bun |

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
No. Dont have that problem.
Wireless goes off when screen goes off. Do the following should fix your wireless problem: Settings>Display>Screen timeout>set a number bigger than 2 min. I use 10 minutes. Sure, it is a balance between screen goes off vs battery life, or you just have to keep turn off screen when NOT in use, not much of a hassel Wireless & Networks>Wi-Fi settings>menu button (the lock switch next to the earplug outlet)>Advanced>Wi-Fi sleep policy>Never or pick anything you like... My wifi stays on without problem. bun |

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
since the n900 is not a native android device, is it normal that i don't see some apps that a legit android device can see in the market? i typed "skyfire" on my brother's galaxy spica and it appeared while i can't on my n900. some of his apps don't appear on mine...
i installed astro something w/c is a file explorer but i can see it on my list of programs. any ideas why? |

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
Nitdroid and youtube, puzzling, puzzling...
We know, even native droid phone have problem playing youtube. Nitdroid currently cant play youtube, that is what I thought and my experience till now. I download an app called chinese cooking.apk. Within the app, I can pick a reciepe, it will then load to my web browser and get into youtube and play a youtube clip about the receipe, the the playing is very watchable. No error message. Yes, it is the same built in web browser that refused to play youtube when I lauch it, but works fine when called by the app "chinese cooking". So I noted the youtube clip, and fired up my web browser and got into youtube and searched for the same video. Well, the same video clip, the same web browser, it wont play, "there is a problem with playing the video..." I am totally confused. The bottomline, if an app can make youtube play on the native web browser, the native web browser is capable of playing youtube clip, we just dont know how to set some parameters and launch it. Right? Anybody? bun |

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
Sometime back I reported that voice command/search is working on nitdroid and working very well. Yes, not just working, working VERY well. I have NOT tried to use voice command yet, but I have slowly move into voice search. I found out voice search is in general faster than poking out the spelling letter by letter, this is even more true when doing with several words. For example, voice "Firefox 4 beta" is faster than spell it out, wether you using hardware keyboard or palm or swype. This is even more true when doing navigation, "hospital downtown Philadelphia", noway you can type faster than I can speak, just a note. I am slowly transformed into voice search because of its outstanding accuracy, how about you guys, comments? Disbelief? Rotten tomatoes?

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
I followed the guide up untill the installer part. There it stopped working at the ext3 thing. So I went to the manual partition thing where I did steps 1-5 and then I started the installer again... but then the x-Terminal window just closed on it's own after a few secs at the second line (the ext3 thing) What's going wrong? O.O How do I fix it?
|
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
Redo the partition. and check with
xterm root cat /proc/partitions you have to see something like mmcblk1p2 (ext3) then you can proceed with installation. Sometimes I have to do it 2 X, never have to do it 3 X yet. bun |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
If someone have the problem with market not showing all the apps because of N900 not being a real android-device, then I have found a solution!

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
Hey all. I installed NITDroid by partitioning manually and then continuing with the automatic installer. Everything seemed to go ok with the auto installer, but when I reboot, it doesn't give me the option to start Android. It just goes straight into Maemo.
Anyone else had this problem and is there a way to fix it? Is there a special button I have to press to bring up the multiboot option? |

Hey, you ALL nitdroid nuts and maemo-ticians listen, 3 good things has happened and should go out and get drunk TODAY in preparation. Dont get drunk on the day good things come.
1) nitdroid 0.0.9 is 'rumored' to be eminent! from nitdroid development team! Yah! 2) PR1.3 I hope 10/27 (?!), 12 days count down 3) meego soon, no date I love to spread good rumors, you never see bunanson spread bad news, even if it is true :) Personally, I have a 4th one to get happy about, Expecting my Android tablet 1st wk of november. Thats all, folks bun |

Can anybody speculate when we'll have "Triple Boot" Capabilities? Maemo, Meego and NITDROID?

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
already pmossible using boot-menu
|
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
the correct way to use nitdroid, boot up nitdroid, kill ALL task, then start.
Of course, it depends what have you installed. For myself, I have 200+apps installed, chances are there are quite some apps started and running in the background, compounded by the 'myth' perpetuated from android, "never close any apps, so they are always ready" it drags the whole system down. I found out you just have to "kill all" before start, the world is much more beautiful. There is an app to manage starting app if you would like to decide which app should start 1st. One question, if anybody knows. I have been slowly 'trained' to use audio to do my search job and has getting close to 99% accuracy and has since rarely use my keyboard, both hardware or onscreen or graffiti, for search. I am getting more and more greedy now. I want to know how can I post by using the dictation. One way I can think of is kind of stupid, is dictated as a note and copy and paste to post. I wonder whether there is any app, not necessary android that allows posting using audio rather than keyboard. Is that called blogging? Yes, anyone aware of using audio to blog? TIA, bun |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
I dont get it.
I killed all app process, and refreshed, it slowly repopulated with lots of apps open. They are not the same apps, but will repopulate to about a full screen. Looks like if an app is installed, nitdroid will get it running on the background, whether you open it or not. That is weird. I now uninstall apps that I dont use alot and just leave it in sdcard, and figure out to install when needed. Comments? bun |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
Itīs an Froyo "feature". It doesnīt lives well with task managers, and reopen all the apps that a task manager closes.
NITDroid isnīt the culprit. |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
Yes, I understand that, it is a Froyo feature, not limited to nitdroid. So does the airplane bug and the call bug, surprisingly, also a Froyo feature, not from the nitdroid development team. Surprise.
Well, I sure do not like that feature, it heats up the N900, use battery and finally crashs the nitdroid. Any way out? Currently I keeps on uninstall seldom used apps, but not ALL apps can be uninstalled, like the one comes with Froyo, Amazon mp3, it refused to uninstall. Any how, my common sense, this feature kills battery/memory, not true? Another question, some apps can put an icon on the top border, which allows one to use any time they want, like Advance taskman, taskman apps, etc, what do you call that feature, I want to look for that feature for BT/wifi apps so that I can open/close wifi/BT without having to get out of an app. bun |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
Without task manager, how do you know you are low on memory? Just run any stream TV program. If it runs stuttering, go kill all apps, and re-start your tv program, it runs 10X better.
