Cool things:
UI
Android KERNEL (just kernel)
overall product/acessories design
phone

Bad things:
proprietary connector
Bing
proprietary connector
price
proprietary connector
Android KERNEL (if that means some of actual Android liabilities)
proprietary connector
no back camera
proprietary connector

Wonder since it's just using the kernel, if it will have that fake multitasking, or real multitasking this time.

That's not bad at all. In fact, that puts a dent in other, upcoming phones by other companies, unlocked.

Hey, I paid less than EUR300 for a truly innovative tablet/phone/computer/you-name-it, with 32GB, unlocked and running a real Linux.

And it was made 2 fvcking years ago! :-)

First things first... 300 Euro is about $433 USD. Patient folks got it for about $250 USD, or about 207 Euro.

That did happen 2 years ago, nothing released on the shelves since.

Doubtful that the Nokia N9 will sell at that price initially. Perhaps in two years.

@gerbick,

What I mean is that IMHO the N900 is still today as "modern" and innovative as it gets, and still costs way less than other supposedly-better phones..

I got the same impression..

What annoyed me most though was that a lot of the text was too big (hopefully customizable..), and it appeared to be "cut" at the top and the bottom (e.g. the clock), like the space for it was too small (or not dynamically resized, which is bad enough..)

Not necessarily to make their own portable devices--but for their patents, so they can build up a defense. I think it's pretty brilliant, really, but also really stupid that they should have to do that. Patent system is truly broken.

I fear that according to Nokia's own choices in regards to system requirements, the N900 is a dead end and isn't terribly all that "modern". No multiple touch support, you tend to find resistive screens in ultra-cheap Android tablets from no-name manufacturers in China.

There is no Flash 10.x support, now being blamed to hardware (Adobe shares the blame here), the N900 lacks RAM to run MeeGo 1.3 (Nokia chose the hardware) - the N900 MeeGo 1.2 CE runs a little... well, unoptimized.

Yes. It has the ability to run full-blown Debian. I can run Ubuntu on my Xoom - full-blown Ubuntu. I have Flash 10.3 on my Xoom, Atrix. I have full (or close enough) HTML5 support where sites that use heavy AJAX don't choke my phone (Atrix and Dell Venue Pro w/ Mango) upon trying to view those sites.

The N900 is an awesome piece of kit. But it is showing its age. Small-ish screen, horrific battery life, non-gorilla glass screen, 600mhz (out of the box) processor, lacking RAM, dwindling support, dying community, limited 3G spectrum in my market (N9's Penta-band solves my problem), lack of apps despite being the "most open" - thank Mece for Tweed Suit, before it, Twitter was basically forgotten, Mauku was "closed source" and never released to the community.

So yeah. I agree... the N900 is/was pretty nice. But time has passed it by in price, expectation and development. And it has been undercut in price by other feature phones, some smart phones. And the Grid 4 actually is cheaper than it on release... patience will probably mean it'll be even cheaper later down the road.

I have a Xoom, with a back camera and a pretty full-fledged movie editing program - which isn't half bad.

Tablets should have the ability to create/edit media.

Could someone write me please a PM as soon as MeeGo is running at their phone?

The Hardware is not that superior, too less RAM, only 16GB Memory and a missing Keyboard... but perhaps it's with MeeGo worth a second look.

The UI is anything but laggy.
Proof: look for the shots were camera is directly focused at the tablet, evertything OK there.

The problem is with the refresh rate of adapter/projector.

BTW: I don't think this topic should be closed, it should be renamed and moved to proper place.

We haven't really seen the device. Their CEO is obviously too focused on software. In order to take on Apple, you have to provide advertise the design of product. He barely let's us see it during the presentation.

The device wont be good if the software is not groundbreaking(? too much right?) .. this software has no innovation..they continued to say tweet after tweet..."We are reinventing the wheel" Heck ELSE did a better job at wheel thing.. :-/ ! People want Simpler OS..and thats where iOS kills everything...it just works!.. And Whats the point of making it compatible of running Android apps..If i wanted to run android Apps..why would i buy this!! Should have gone with a Linux kernel..and tried to put Alien dalvik :-/
those are some really bad decision by FG... they should have gone with Meego or something else...Android kernel...shudders..

Last time they provided linux (web browser), now they went android in order to provide applications. Not too bad decision in my opinion.

Check out the "popular" prices of accessories, so Applish.

The phone intrigues me it has similarities to Wp7 and other things like you guys have mentioned but nonetheless it is still different from whats on the market. I like different hence my purchases of the n810 and n900. I think I will purchase it while I'm waiting for my N9 since i have some money to blow :P.

Is it just me... or doesn't it looks VERY much like the original Motorola Droid from almost two years ago? Even the 5mp camera... and although the screen is slightly larger, it's a lower resolution than the Droid at 854x480. The lack of a slide-out keyboard, faster processor and RAM are about the only real differences, outside the OS... Oh right--same OS, too. :) So basically, it's a lower-res, keyboardless but faster Motorola Droid?

Compare:
Motorola Droid A855: http://developer.motorola.com/products/droid/
Fusion Garage Grid 4: http://www.fusiongarage.com/grid-4/tech-specs

How is the Grid 4 "NOTHING LIKE IT?"

Edit: Although, I didn't see that before--a front-facing camera. That's kinda cool--but what apps will work with it? For that matter... what Android version is their OS compatible with? Android 2.2? 2.3? 3.x? 4?

One thing's for sure, they better start working to get Ice Cream to both of these devices if they wanna stay alive for more than 10 minutes this time.

Re: FusionGarage - Grid 10 (Was: Do we have a Nokia Internet Tablet in waiting? Tabco)

Grid 10 vs Asus Transformer

Grid 10 - $499 - 16GB
CPU - Nvidia Tegra II 1.2Ghz Dual Core

RAM - 512MB

Display Type
10.1" TFT LCD (1366 x 768)
4 points Capacitive Touch Panel

Transformer - $399 - 16GB
CPU - Nvidia Tegra II 1Ghz Dual Core - My Transformer is running @ 1.4GHz rock stable

RAM - 1GB

Display Type
10.1" IPS LED Backlight WXGA (1280x800)
10 finger multi-touch support
Scratch resistant glass - Gorilla Glass

As far as I'm concerned, the Transformer beats it on EVERYTHING including price.

The only thing the Grid 10 has that the Transformer doesn't is 3G. I don't need it.

Battery life is not mentioned, but I don't believe it comes close to the 10h+ I am getting on the Tablet alone.

Just a long list of FAIL!

I guess they figure that cutting off the bottoms of the characters somehow makes them look "futuristic"? I find it obnoxious to look at and immediately made me think something wrong with the font rendering until I realized they were doing it intentionally.
