Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!
you'll have to enable dev mode if you haven't already.
then using the terminal you'll have to find out what process is taking up the cpu (in terminal, landscape so you can see more, type top and press enter, the top process is taking the highest cpu, take note of the highest couple PID's) then you'll have to kill it. type: kill <PID> where <PID> is the number of the process which is the problem. now you should be able to kill the process, if not try typing in devel-su, and then kill the process, and then type exit (be careful in devel-su). some processes you won't be able to kill even in devel-su thanks to aegis. in this case i think a reset is best. as a guide, my top processor users are, sensord, terminal, top, uiserver, xorg, mcompositor, budaemo to mention a few... if your uncertain post your top cpu processors here to make sure your not going to kill anything important (although a simple reboot should fix it if you kill anything important) |

that's way too complicated for my little non-geek brain :)

Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!
Try "top" on command line. See post #446.
Let me know if you have "smartsearch" running. I'm getting little bit p...ed with that one. Also, "Search" application is not working for me... |
Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!
it actually looks as my phone's battery drains out the most when I set the power saving mode on automatic. I've had the settings to turn it on when the battery goes down to 20% and that would happen around half way through the day. I've left it off today and after using the phone all day I've still got nearly 50%.

Needless to say I can't get decent battery life too, I have Edge (no 3g) activated or WIFI with push mail and connected to skype, google talk, fb chat occasionally, the max i could get would be around 8 to 9 hours of usage time before i need to plug it to power. Anyway, I print screen the proccesses running when I type TOP, doesn't have smartsearch though during the time when i took it |
Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!
Have my N9 for a few days now, and are very satisfied in general, but there are two things I miss:
1. An app to remote-control squeezebox 2. An app to control mythtv (or even tighter integration, like stream tv shows..), like mythdroid for android eg. Anyone knows any solutions? Apparently for squeezebox it is possible to compile squeezeplay on N900, so how would I go about attempting to compile for N9? Or is that too difficult? I occasionally compiled programs on linux, but mostly following a good readme/howto, so thats about all I know. |
Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!
lots of people are finding high battery drain when they enable dev mode and install all the dev tools.
if you are an average user and don't know much about dev tools then dont enable it. it's not worth that 1 thing you want to install. i'd take better battery then alpha application. |
Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!
One reads reviews that talk about freezing and lagging on the phone. Can some of the users please comment regarding their experience with freezing, lagging and VKB please
|
Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!
whats VKB? regarding freezing..so far havent experienced one...lagging...only when its updating ur feeds in the background...other than that its good for 1ghz processor..i have owned nexus one so i can safely say its much better than that...imho.

Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!
Regarding freezing and lagging and VKB (on screen keyboard?)
I had the Lg optimus O2x before the N9 and the N9 is MUCH more faster, smoother and i personally dont experience any lagging at all, and if you are referring to the keyboard its fast and smooth as well with no lagging at all. :) |
Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!
on WP7 thread on few forums, people waiting for nokia WP7 drool over the N9 :D
Personnaly, I don't have any issue regarding VKB, but regarding battery life ... it's too short ATM ... Can't event have a full day with it :/ |
Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!
Hi,
i got my N9 today, and now i've realised it doesn't support ogg vorbis audio codec out of the box. Is there an easy way to get my music collection (which is mainly ogg) to play on the N9 without converting all my music? Google search didn't help :-( Quote:

N9 has similar, maybe a bit better battery life than iPhone 4, that has one of the longest lasting battery lifes of the high profile top end smartphones. Meaning you get one day of battery usage and with moderate use two days. |

Got only 2 IM account connected all the time, Gtalk and Facebook Chat. ( skype is in offline status ) Got 2 push emails account configured, 1 nokia account, 1 skype, 1 youtube and 1 twitter. this morning I woke up and took it ( it was on airplane mode and fully charge ) On the appz battery usage, 2 hour and 27 minutes after, it showed that battery went from 95 % to 63 % ( in 2h27 minutes ) During this 2 hours I just took 3 pictures and 2 vidz of 30 seconds. didn't check any mails or website ( was on my laptop ) So most of the time, it was in idle mode .. ( confirmed by battery usage ) Thanks to the N900, I'm used to kill heavy tasks so multitaks didn"t kill ma battery :) I got only 2 specific things : no sim card and devel mode activated ( maybe this one ? ) |
Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!

Though you got the N9 2 days ago so don't be bothered yet. I was really worried about my battery life after 4 days of use, but it suddenly got a lot better. I don't know was the reason that i just did not get how much i was actually using N9 or what, but from 16hours it improved to around 40 hours. Wait a week and that MicroSIM. I'm sure it will get better. |
Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!
I have four unresolved problems with N9 at the moment.
1. How to get haze/gadugadu protocol working on N9? (I got gabble/jabber account set up from terminal thanks to http://doclinux.com/content/how-crea...ber-account-n9) N900 needed some extra packages, are these compatible/ported already? 2. How to get upcoming calendar notifications (and birthdays!) on the "event" screen, or anywhere visible without the need to start extra application. (N900 had this via built-in calendar widget..., why N9 feels sometimes like downgrade...) 3. Why are deleted emails in IMAP4 account not deleted on the server? I can see "unprocessed" emails in modest/evolution/thunderbird/webmail (after resync) which I have already deleted on the N9. Bug??? I have deleted the account, set it up again, the deleted messages are there back (just like all other email clients and webmail show). 4. I am unable to send files over paired Bluetooth/OBEX connection to N9 from my PC (Ubuntu 11.10). What am I doing wrong? Transfer N900->N9 works. more issues are definitely coming... <rant> BTW I have to force myself to read this preinstalled "user guide" because almost each N9 functionality looks like Easter egg to me... a whole bunch of eggs. I think I am 30 years too old to get grip on this UI, I want my HW keyboard and terminal.... eh... </rant> Thanks to all getting all this Q&A thread working :) Paul ANSWERS: 3. "Trash" folder must be defined, otherwise deleting emails on N9 does not work. http://www.developer.nokia.com/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=563 |
Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!
Anyone know of an app (or site) that allows scrobbling to Last.FM on the N9? Somewhat annoyed that my plays on the N9 aren't being recorded. The longer I use the N9, strangely, the more I miss the N900...
The N9 is looking more to be like the N900... castrated... that's why it's missing the 00. |

Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!
Try authorising your PC first with the N9 and then sending a file across
With IMAP i think you need to sync first and then it copies the changes across |

I am sure I can make everything lag even the mighty N8 :D If I want to get rid of lag on N900 with my usage behaviour using many concurrent full web sites I need to put on a tight leech unwanted scripts, flash adds etc... Also background syncing of Skype could cause severe albeit temporary lag. The N9 has already a built in flash blocker. NoScript / Adblock -> where are they? |

Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!
Is there anyone else having a N9 where the compass is not working? Neither the "Compass" app from ovi store nor GePeS show anything (besides a fixed azimuth of 357). Is this a software or hardware bug?

Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!

Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!
When opening an app which uses the compass sensor, I get the following messages on syslog:

Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!
Does anyone else's google talk availability status change to "offline" without any reason? Mine does, and when I try to change it to "online" it says "wrong password" twice and then connects on the third attempt. After a while it's "offline" again. Skype works as expected all the time, it's just google talk. What's going on?
