Re: [Announce] The One Ring
I just did the update and now all my GV contacts show up as away. So now I can't "chat". Wasn't like this before.

I wonder if you are hitting the same issue as mrdally204. Is it the button for "chat" is grayed out? is startup time for "chat" slow? |
Re: [Announce] The One Ring
N900/1.1/0.7.1
Updated this morning before work. Didn't see any change (no contacts added). Check phone later at work, GV contacts were imported. Perhaps the lack of wifi in the car triggered the update. Quick testing, sms and dialing work. Now I just have to sort out my contacts. For instance I have my wife on the N900 and in GV with home, work, cell numbers. She's now listed 4 times in my contact list: N900, GV home, GV work, GV cell. So I see her name listed multiple times with no clear indication which number (GV listings show as away). I merged 2 of the 3 GV listings with the N900 entry. Works fine, now down to 2 entries for my wife. The N900 entry has 4 GV numbers listed (2 each for work and cell, IM and Call). Getting a bit cumbersome to find the right number to call. @epage Hopefully you can get the direct calling working (ie call any contact number through GV). The I could distill my GV contacts down to cell only. Thanks for the great work. |

Re: [Announce] The One Ring
ive been following this thread, and want to thank epage for the hard work on this application. i have not installed this yet, because i dont want to have to go through my contacts and merge them again ... at least not right now, is there a way to not pull contacts from GV and just add numbers to contacts yourself. id have about 300 duplicates that id rarely use for GV *(they were auto imported from my account when i got my voice account) if i wanted 15 or so i could do that fairly quickly. i dont know how that would work or if im just completely in the wrong for asking.
regardless thanks for your diligent work! |

Admittedly, most of my contacts only have one number (cell), but several of my closer contacts (family) have multiple numbers. For example: My parents have 3 numbers in GV, mom cell, dad cell and home. In DialCentral, I select contacts, Parents, and am shown a list of the 3 numbers and choose which one I want. With TOR, I now have Parents(GV), Parents(GV), Parents(GV), and Parents(N900, all 3 numbers) in my contacts list, same for my wife (home, cell, work). Currently, I can't dial a N900 contact number with TOR, and I can't dial a GV number via normal cellular service. I don't have data (yet) so when somewhere without wifi, I need to be able to dial via cellular. I guess I was trying to keep my contact list shorter by combining contact info where it made sense. Since the N900 doesn't do groups well, I figured a shorter list is easier to scroll through when I don't have the keyboard out. I think the best option is to: Split contacts up, 1 number each (ie Home, Wife Work, Wife Cell) instead of combining them (Wife). Then manually sync/merge my N900 contacts and GV so I end up with one contact per phone number. If TOR could dial any contact number, then I need only keep cell numbers in GV for IM/SMS purposes and merge contacts appropriately. |
