Re: New members say hello !
Hi all, long-time lurker here. My name is Daniel Reetz.
Relevant info: Got my N900 from Dell, ordered on the 25th. Living in Fargo, North Dakota, USA (as a consequence I have a T-mobile number from another city and 2.5G data only). Skilled 3D modeler (maya), Photoshopper, and vector artist, if anybody needs anything. Bought the N900 primarily to have OpenCV running all the time and to play with Computational Photography on it, but I am such a linux n00b I have yet to get OpenCV installed. Also to get liqbase running, it was my favorite thing about my n810. Have a free album here: www.fakeproject.com Have a community of people building book scanners here www.diybookscanner.org (can't wait to get fbreader working on my device) cheers. |
Re: New members say hello !
Hello everyone from Italy (Piedmont). I had my N900 for about one month and I'm really loving it. Very good community too!!

Hi. I'm Sumana Harihareswara, a New York City resident.
I work for the British open source firm Collabora, and my bosses gave out N900s to everyone in the company. So I have a new N900 and am looking forward to making the most of it. I hope to help out with extras-testing, and I can't help but proofread everything I read so I'd like to help that way too. Some personal recommendations for your device:
I hope to find and test more apps and tools to recommend, and will blog about them or post about them here in talk.maemo.org. |
Re: New members say hello !

Complete newbie to the world of Maemo. Have had my N900 for a couple of weeks now and it does everything and more! Don't seem to have any problems at the moment, am looking forward to getting some more applications on the go so we can really shut the iphone brigade up once and for all!!
Anyway about me, I'm Arnie live in the UK. Have been a long term Nokia supporter. |
Re: New members say hello !
Hi From Italy.
I'm a long time unix user and programmer. My current interest is with asterisk (already seen an asterisk compilation). Asterisk connected to the cellular should be really fun. :D |
Re: New members say hello !
Hello from Essex, UK

Re: New members say hello !
just came in to say "hello world" ;-)
ok - i just got my N900 2 weeks ago and I still feel as a newcmer when i read within this site. Still be reading now for that 2 weeks a lt of stuff helping me tio undestand a lot. I feel as a "end-usser" not as a develloper since linux and its derivates are not my professionalities as also english ist not my mothers language. So have sympathy when reading somesing misspelled from me. At least - I'm 49 years old and live in germany best regards thanks to the team from maemo.org and even nokia |
Re: New members say hello !
Hi all,
I'm joining you from Iran. I'm sure you all know about the political problems lingering over our head here. The political issue with the unwanted government brings about some badies with it. The one most concerning me is internet censorship. That's the main reason I'm here. To get the Iranian people's messages out we need internet on the go with out the gov's blocks. I'll be here searching on how to get the N900 geared up to connect to anything through anything at any time. |

Re: New members say hello !
Howdy from Upland, CA (US) !!
No N900 yet.. debating wether to switch back to TMO from ATT.. crappy coverage around here on both.. but it has been good lately. Hoping that there will be more portrait mode functionality has I use it one handed often, while driving :) |
Re: New members say hello !
Got my N900 two days ago and I am loving every minute of it! I wish it was a little better on the AT&T network, but it seems to be finding free WiFi everywhere we go. Great for mass transit folks because, as a driver, you'll crash playing with it.
With no effort, syncs with Google Sync, BTs with a ZipCar, FM transmitter in the kitchen, plays (some) movies... It's a wonderful computer! |
Re: New members say hello !
Hello world!

Re: New members say hello !
Hello to all of you guys !
I'm a quite new member of the Maemo community ...and a fresh new onwner of the N900. I bought this phone, even it is quite "new" because of the big potential of the harware, SW (Linux !!!), openess and most of all for the Incredible Community of Maemo !!! I take the opportunity to WISH YOU ALL A MERRY XMAS and a wonderful Ney Year !! Greetings from Italy, Cesare |
Re: New members say hello !
Hi. New member here. I'm trying to figure out the N900 I got last week, and I find this forum very helpful, if a tad defensive about the N900's flaws. The device is far below expectations, so I may not be here long. I find it amusing that the standard defense on this site appears to be:" but it's not a smartphone, it's an internet tablet." For an internet-specific device, the N900's browser is very slow, it is more difficult to navigate even this maemo community page on the N900 than on my e71, and the there is massive lag when I try to play flash video from websites. It is obvious that so many of the lessons learned in Symbian over the years have somehow been lost in designing this phone and OS. Nokia should be embarrassed (and it's sagging share price shows that embarrassment) to have launched such a half-baked product. The innovation graveyard is littered with products that developers found cool, and the consumer found idiotic. The N900 appears to be headed that way. If you make me a decent offer for my N900, I'll ship it to you and buy a real phone/internet device :).

Re: New members say hello !
Hey, two weeks ago got my N900......... woowwwww!!!
I am not a newbe in linux, but even though not an expert. But this device smashes!!!! AND:: Love the posts here Last but not least: Brought my N900 to the "nokia-super-doctor" here in town. because it (by serial nr.) was on the "black"-list for factory return. Mine had spontanious reboots which did the file-system no good Now i get a new one within a few days. Lucky me!!!! Greetz........ Adrian PS. The doctor himself in the shop checked his own N900 too. Guess what: his is on the blacklist too...... LOL |

Hello Everyone... I am Tushar and I am an addict... its been 15 mins since i used my phone last time...
I am from india... and I got this baby after a lot of trouble.. ..Bought it from new egg and made a friend to bring it for me....I am a (u can say) gadget freak (i prefer buying some cool gadget over clothes).... My last phone was N97 and before that it was Htc TyTn II (i wont go into the story before that one) I use fedora 12 on my regular workstation and i dont even try to touch a machine with windows with a 10 foot pole (you have no idea what it can do to you...) This is a first time i am using debian (i know its strange) in any kind (n900) and trying to find my way through the differences in fedora and debian bases..... i think this is enough for today.. will continue the story some other day :) |

Re: New members say hello !
Hi!,
Just got my N900 for present so there is no big pressure to demand features, but first impressions are quite positive even though i would never ever pay 540€ for this piece of thing :| I´m eagerly waiting for firmware updates and whole community seems pretty interesting. Lets hope that this thing will not end to be another linux distro with niche market. Last thing that I want is another n-gage. After all, the money and buying power what share holders want lies in pockets of Joe the Normal User. That´s not me :) What else? I´m from Finland and compared to my friends I´am power user and very very very demanding one, who is never ever going to be satisfied. About my philosophy i could say that: "Evolution towards perfection is constant and never-ending race" describes me pretty well. I hate from bottom of my heart people who have lost their perspective after buying product (fanboyism). Last but not least: Remember to question everything. |
Re: New members say hello !
Hi guys,
I've my N900 for 5 days now and I loving it more with each passing day. Before it I used Samsung i900 (win 6.1) and this so blows that out of the water! not even in the same league at all and dear I say anything that is currently on the market today does not come close imo... Only a pity I cant use my SIM with it yet (on 3) so thats me stuck on the Samsung for phone use until Nokia sort the 3 SIM error. Wonderful site too :) ;) |
Re: New members say hello !
Had this sucker for just over a week so far.And i gotta say i am impressed.Allready wondering how i can spruce it up with extras but not sure how yet.:D

Magnus from Sweden/Singapore
Hi!
This is Magnus from Sweden/Singapore here. I've got the N900 on my wishlist, but it is not yet announced in Singapore, so either I'll just keep dreaming about it, or I'll place an order from the US. I hope to be able to develop some simple apps for it. I've got started with Qt development (nothing fancy yet) and I'm looking to deploy my app(s) to both Maemo and Symbian. See you in the forums! /Magnus |
Re: New members say hello !
hello!
i've had a n800 for a while, was quite happy but missed a real keyboard. so i bought a n810 and i'm happy with it and most important: thanks for so much software, lot's of stuff i already knew from linux! great stuff!! |
Re: New members say hello !
Hello from Edinburgh. Got my N900 after waiting a LONG time for something good to come along. I'm OK with Linux and touchscreen, but still warming up with this phone. I'm sure there will be some big jumps once the number of users increase and the developers see a real market opportunity. :-D

Re: New members say hello !
Howdy from Chicago. Just got my n900 on Christmas. I love it so far. I've had an eye on the forums for a long time and i'm excited to be a part of the community. My first Linux phone was the Moto Rokr e6 which i had for a few years until the touchscreen died. Since then i've been super picky about what my next great phone would be. When I realized the n900 was running maemo and not symbian I was on it in no time. You guys have a great community and a great amount of apps, i'm very excited to have the gadget and very excited about the development behind it.
