Re: Dialcentral 1.0

I like the double clicking option personally. It kinda sucks now because it does not work but I think going forward it will be nice. I wish you would switch the 2 sec hold for refreshes to either double clicks or a 1 second hold. Double click would feel more natural and the 2 seconds is just a bit too long. I love knit picking :)

I'd prefer not to make such a small thing configurable.

In SVN I've rolled back the behavior. I'll get a package out soon so it can "work" for everyone.

Try Fremantle, it works well :)

Oops, I've not really heard much feedback on how Dialcentral is to use on an n800. I've got an n810 and an n900 which both don't have to worry about this. Since this isn't a high priority right now and so I don't forget, could you file a bug on this and I'll look into this.

Yeah, I had tested it only with devices with an Enter key. I went ahead and added an OK button

After mrdally204 brought up his use case of having as a long conversation with people it is hard to scroll in the Messages tab I think is a very valid point. Maybe the question should more so be how many conversations should I display and should I have an expand feature right in the Messages Tab? I'm thinking No on the expand at the moment, but feedback on the conversation length would be appreciated.

In SVN I have expanded the size of conversation history in the SMS dialog. Also it already autoscrolls to the end in the SMS dialog.

The other thing I've been toying with is I might be able to find out if you have archived the conversation and if you have I can choose not to display it. Would this work?

Be sure to add any comments to the feature request that you might have.

I think feedback is essential but I also think push back on some ideas is also essential ;)

You can add contacts either through the GoogleVoice webpage or through adding a CSV file. Instructions may be found at the beginning of this thread. If you have further questions, feel freeto ask

i added a question above: i no longer can click on my sms messages to reply to them in the new version. i loved that feature, it was such a timesaver.

it appers i can only reply using the enter key now but in comparison to clicking on the message thats a horrible option as the app doesnt highlight what message u will reply to if you press enter. to me, a huge step backwards when it comes to intuitive use.

oh man thanks, that whole enter for replying would not had worked for me.
thanks again for all of your work on this.

i read that you were considering an option collapse/expand conversations and i think that would be great. i got a 40+ long sms thread between myself and my gf that i currently have to scroll through every time.

maybe a user option such as: 'Automatically collapse when a thread is more than X messages long'

Yes, currently it collapses at about 4 conversations. The question is what is the optimal number

Ok so i'm new to this. I just installed this program and it asks me to input my user and pass. I do that and it asks for it again. Then it does nothing. I can't dial out or sms. I have 1.0.6-10 installed because I can't figure out how to install python-glade2. I'm been working on this and reading all I can and nothing seems to work. Please someone help me. If you want you can even message me on my yahoo account, johnlcecil, and walk me through it. Please help i'm starting to go crazy.

Yep. Same here.

Thought I did something wrong but it's good to hear from someone else that they ran into the same problem. :)

Hey epage, I'd be more than happy to exchange phone numbers with you, not only as a friend but for testing purposes as well.

Just tested latest release of 1.0.7-7.

It's back to highlighting, double clicking is beautifully implemented, and the full SMS screen is pure joy. :)

Oh, and it doesn't work. *lol*

Can anyone confirm being able to send a text message?

For me it just goes immediately back to the original screen with no confirmation message.

Same, getting an error message at the bottom of the app when trying to send an SMS from it :(

In situations like this, is it possible to un-install and re-install an older, working version? If so, where would those be located?

A lot (not me unfortunately) have had a roll out of an update to GoogleVoice. This roll out breaks login. Unfortunately my version that fixes this also has a lot of UI changes and isn't completely tested. If you want you can pop into extras-devel and grab the latest test version to see if this fixes things.

I'm curious what you mean about installing python-glade2. Unless I made a mistake in what I uploaded, chinook and diablo packages should not depend on that.

Sorry about that everyone. I consolidated two dialogs (Phone Selection and SMS Entry). They had a lot of similar code which made it hard to notice small things like code that distinguishes pressing "Send" from "Cancel".

**Feature Request**
Allow the number that you have dialed to be selectable in the middle, instead of having to hit the back button to your mistake. Again doesnt happen often as I call from the address book a lot, but I have mis-dialed a few times and had to delete most of the number instead of 1. Posted on the project page as well.

I've upgraded to 1.0.7-8 and I can no longer log in. Anyone else having this issue?

Addison 2009-10-13 04:59

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

1.0.7-8 is bar none my favorite release thus far.

I'd be more than happy if this was left as the final version.

Thanks epage for the quick fix on everything! :o)

Sorry flake, no problems of this not auto logging me in. When I had a similar problem some time back, a hard reset on the device did the trick.

Best of luck.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Thanks for the tip, didn't work this time - however when I removed .dialcentral from the home directory, it works fine now.

This release is looking really nice!

Addison 2009-10-13 05:22

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

I think I spoke to soon. :(

I can send a text message but can't dial out.

When choosing a callback number, I'm receiving this error:
GtkTreeModel.get_value() takes exactly 2 arguments (1 given)

Anyone able to dial out?

Edit:
Got it to work! :D
You can't double tap the callback number from the drop down selection screen under accounts.
However, if you manually type the number and then press ENTER, all is well.

Excellent! Back to being super happy again! I love this program! :D

flakeparadigm 2009-10-13 05:29

I think I finally hit the login failure bug and I think I might have fixed it. I also fixed the get_value bug and another couple accounts entry bugs. I'll try and get -9 up to extras-devel soon

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

DialCentral installed fine on my N900, and while a bit slow, works great, specifically for messaging. I'll continue testing various other features, though.

Addison 2009-10-13 21:33

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

1.0.7-9 is looking really good!

Selecting Callback number from dropdown window no longer gives an error message.

Letters left is still hidden under hildon keyboard when text messaging. But honestly, I'm just grateful that it's back to being fully functional so I doubt I'll be putting in any additional feature requests from now on.

I'm happy enough the way it is. Thanks again epage! :)

Addison 2009-10-13 22:04

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Got a crash when hitting refresh while the LED notification was blinking.

DialCentral just closed.

Sorry, I wasn't running this through Xterm so I don't have an error log on it.

I'll try to reproduce it later if possible.

Cheers!

Addison 2009-10-13 22:21

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Okay. It happened again.

The only error Xterm gave was that a Segmentation Fault had occurred.

Good luck tracking that little weird bug down. *lol*

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Epage,
I am loving the new user experience you have given us with the latest releases. Its really meshing together beautifully. **Can I make a minor suggestion. Again I'm going to try and explain. On previous builds, when I was done typing the sms to be sent, I was able to hit down on the D pad and then the middle dpad button to send. It was a nice work around to having the "auto spell" window that pops up over the send button. The way it functions now, hitting down selects the Dial button. I think I placed 3 calls today by accident due to habit. I can get used to the new way but found the old much easier. Keep the builds coming.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Your app saved my butt a few days ago. Thanks!

Two minor requests:
- the SMS edit window and virtual keyboard seems to need a bit of alignment. Not fitting properly and makes it look a bit messy.

- on the account screen is a 'log in' button that is still active when you are already logged in.
Would it be possible to have that button change to 'Log out/Change Account' when you logged in?

Thanks again, great application.

To have a segfault, my guess is it would be with the handling of dbus. My first thought would have been a threading issue but it doesn't appear so. I'm baffled. File a bug?

Err um, not sure? Could you upload your log (~/.dialcentral/dialcentral.log) so I can see if I can gleam any information from it?

I'm unsure if I can set which of those buttons will be first selected on the down arrow. What I have done is made it so that if there is any text written, the dial button becomes disabled. That work out?

Yeah, sorry about the alignment issues. My 770 is pretty much out of commission and my n810 and n900 both have hardware keyboards, so its hard for me to notice issues like this. I'm going to play with dropping the height of the dialog to see if it helps. I am also experimenting with changing how scrolling works to try and give me more space. Other than that I'm not sure what is considered the best way to handle this.

Yeah, I was too lazy to make it switch back and forth. Would "New Login" always appearing work?

Yeah, I figured that tracking down the seg fault was going to be massively difficult for you.

I can definitely tell you that this is something new from previous versions.

It's no big deal really, all I have to do is restart DC.

Glad you're still thinking of releasing better builds. :)

Are you enjoying your N900 or is that a dumb question? :)
