A free trial would be nice too before shelling nearly £60!

Yep, trial would be good!

Upload a video once any of you guys have downloaded so we can see if it's any good.

Says on the web home page that it is a onem off subscription payment for life. No future payments :)

If they would only have the US Version up as well :(
But I guess their server would completely collaps at that time. Let's hope it's coming
soon.
And THUMBS UP to sygic not waiting for Ovi any longer.

Update : back again, I have to download it again now from the beginning...

The price is fine. I've bought TomTom (twice) before.

I'll hold back a little bit though until I see those reviews by you guys.. :)
I'm particularly interested in

a) Reviews by folks who are familiar with TomTom
b) Can Sygic use an external BT GPS instead of the built-in one? My Holux is just so much better than the built-in chip.

I am happy to know the application is out finally, but a bit sad since bypassing Ovi Store is not good for the future of Maemo.... And it seems it will take a lot more time to get paid content....

I already asked about this to Sygic technical support and they said the maps are different between Symbian and Maemo version.

Yes, a Sygic employee mentioned the trial at this same thread, but maybe their plans changed due to Ovi Store delays...

Nice! unfortunately it looks like Sygic's website is hosted on an IBM XT pc machine, with a whopping 128kb memory and connected to the internet with a 14400 bps modem, as the thing is CRAWLING slower than a snail...

On another note - does anyone knows if its possible to download and install the application itself, and download the map separately? Sygic's site doesn't specify any map for Israel, though I know it exist as its available for S60 phones in Israel...

EDIT:

Well, at least they upgraded! When I had an XT, it was on a 300 bps modem!

It was a proud day indeed when I got that Smokin' AT with the 2400 bps modem. I still get a little verklempt when I reminisce about it!

Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

I have contacted Sygic, they are changing the server these days, in order to provide better experience with downloads. This means that I'll wait until tomorrow with download.

Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo

wait. we first wait month to release the sw. when the sw is out we laugh at the users trying to dl the sw from our slow servers. when they tried several times without success we changing the servers a day after release.

Why not do that before?????

I guess they need people to actually purchased it first so they will have the money buying new server to host the DL. :D

then you can't buy it from ovi store either, as it's also only supporting credit cards...
