# sharing
when I view a picture and select share using fmms, the caption from the sharing interface isn't propagated to the fmms UI caption field.

Couldn't agree more. Especially with regards to addressing... :)

Keep up the good work Frals... It's appreciated... ;)

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

v 1.2.0

Version Changes
1.2.0 * 'Save attachments' option added in viewer

--

When i choose, Save attachments it lets me choose txt or image, I click save but what happens? nothing? where does it save pr. default? Why not have a custom dir. save popup?

Thanks for a brilliant application, btw. :)

That's interesting. I had these exact settings and after an update of fMMS, not the most recent update but a week or two ago, the send/receive would not work. I deleted the password and all ran well. Yesterday and today I was in conversation with another N900 user

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=767233

and he had to delete the password and "nokia" from the User name: field to get his to work. So there are three ways of doing this that all work for someone but not for everyone.

noooo dont put mms in conversations! i like to keep my boobies seperate from conversation! it'll be like when i try to talk to a woman face to face and still keep staring at her chest!

Can you add the option for deleting of all messages ? (not one by one)
Thanks

Added to the to do list, should be pretty trivial... Hopefully :)

1: It's on the "list", but I think it's non-trivial so might be a while still.
2: If someone supplies a patch for perfect conversations integration I'll merge it, but otherwise I'm afraid you are stuck with standalone client ;)
3: Hmm, good point, I'll look into fixing that (it's still set as the subject of the MMS though ;))

inidrog: a dialog should appear after selecting the files asking where you want to save them.

can you please start the application from the terminal and email the output after trying to save attachments to fmms@frals.se? thank you!

start it from terminal by entering: /opt/fmms/fmms_gui.py

thanks for testing!

Just released 1.2.1:

Thanks everyone for using fMMS! Getting really close to half a million downloads from maemo.org repos :-)

Hi frals
I don't know why, but the version 1.2.1 is not working... I can see the inbox, but I can't open the messages, not the new and not the old...
Back to 1.2.0...

Frals, I have the same problem:

I am also having the same issue. I open fMMS fine, all is well. When I try to open a message however, no such luck. I tested the sending with my friend, and it worked, but ONLY through the sharing plug in. If I use the manual way I can NOT tap the image box. Also, I can delete fine as well. Still not receiving any messages though...

Back to 1.2.0...

Frals, I have the same problem:
That I get from X-term:
Code:

~$ /opt/fmms/fmms_gui.py
smil.txt
DSC00043.JPG
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/opt/fmms/fmms_viewer.py", line 202, in mms_menu_button_clicked

File "/opt/fmms/fmms_viewer.py", line 433, in choose_your_destiny
fcd = hildon.FileChooserDialog(self.window, action=gtk.FILE_CHOOSER_ACTION_SAVE)
TypeError: HildonFileChooserDialog.__init__() takes exactly 3 arguments (2 given)
~ $

and that my fmms log file, after trying to save the attachment (and I don't know where is it saved):

Hmm, seems like python-hildon have added the constructor I'm using recently; what does: dpkg -s python-hildon report?

EDIT: Fixed both issues in fMMS 1.2.2 which I just submitted to autobuilder. :)
Quote:

* Fixed syntax error in viewer preventing it from starting

* Updated dependency on python-hildon to correct version

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

why dont they make fmms compatible with video attach? is it because of n900 camera format not support .3gp? Why cant we upload multi photos in one mms? just making it auto compress all the immage size to max of 300kb for all device? the way symbian os is very useful in MMS.

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

On July 20, I was able to receive an MMS from my brother-in-law. He's on an iPhone w/AT&T, I'm on T-Mobile USA. On July 31, he sent me two MMS's that I can't retrieve (message says "Downloading MMS" for about 5 seconds and then nothing happens), though on the same day (w/same fMMS version), I had no problem receiving one from my wife who's on Verizon. Not sure what fMMS version I had installed on July 20 though I think I've updated the version at least a couple of times since then. As of July 31, I had 1.2.2 installed.

Any clues?

Hello frals,

I was discussing with other users the possibility of finally being able to have wap connection on the N900.

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=59517

Someone suggested asking you about expending fMMS to support wap protocol connection, is it possible?

Thank you.

@frals

maybe, I'm too new to this community or it's just a wrong impression but I almost always feel like my posts are overseen in any threads I participated so far ;-) On the other hand, it could be that I have overseen the answers to my posts? ;-) Anyway, I'll just post my bug report again now, and sorry, if you have read it already:

I'll get my emails forwarded via MMS to my N900. If an email address is not in my contacts list (address book), it seems, that fMMS displays an arbitrary contact name (but always the same for all "unknown" addressers). However, in the header of the MMS, the correct addresser is displayed, so maybe it's easy to fix this issue with fMMS?

Thanks for fMMS!

Regarding WAP it's not something I'm going to do as it's huge and ugly ;-) However the library I'm using to encode the MMS messages actually had WAP/WSP encoding and some related stuff implemented (which I've mostly gotten rid of in fMMS though), original library at http://python-mms.sourceforge.net/ :)

It uses whatever language the device is configured to use, to override you can change the LC_* env variables and fMMS should use these instead. :)

I'm unable to reproduce this issue - could you please get back to me if this is still an issue? Thanks!

Re: [Announce] fMMS - MMS on the N900

Then just send it as an email!!!! Oh my god why are you people so hell bent on sticking to this archaic system!!!! Get youmfriend to set up their own email account and they will thank you for it!!!! If the the phone can accept MMS then I garauntee you it can have an email account set up. It is basically the same thing but there are no size restictions via email and you can add as much as you like. Make sure your recipient has a hotmail, Gmail or any other home POP email client set up (ie tiscali, blueyonder, btinternet, etc). It is inifinitley easier than mucking around with an mms programe, it will litterally take a minute or two and have a 100% success rate.

Don't faff around with an archaic method of transfering data that doesn't work for some stupid reason thru thislinux based system. And as much as the designer tries, it is not a reliable alternative to standard phones. It's exactly the same process as setting up an email account on your computer and pretty much every phone available nowadays can do this. My wifes samsung from 5 years ago does so I'm sure your recipiemts does too. Just remember an mms is just an email!

Thanks for your invaulable input on why MMS does not fit your use case, it really enriched this thread and helped development of this project progress.

Regarding MMS is just an email, I disagree, there are several differences, but otoh, you could always argue they both contain (almost always, anyway) a message, hence is the same thing...

What does the error log in app manager say? If you long-tap on fMMS and click details, does it say any conflict or anything?
