But I just did some small changes and desktop restarted within a reasonable time. Doing other changes before, I waited for hours and nothing happened (not really but sitting in front of the device and watching it doing nothing feels like this).

I did a few test reboots and apparently it does work when I don't change anything. It works very different to the reboot button from switch off menu (vibro+white notification light then black screen then white notification then backlit nokia logo, handshake then good to go). Indeed it did work (backlit nokia logo+nolight+novibro, black screen, nokia logo with no backlight, black screen, good to go)

If I change font size from +3 to +2: backlit nokia logo+nolight+novibro, black screen, nokia logo with no backlight, black screen, nokia logo with no backlight, black screen

Im using kernel 2.6.28.10power42

hi, having trouble importing fonts, imported two fonts at first and worked fine, but now every time i import a font, it dosnt appear in my fonts list although i still get the message "import complete, restart theme customizer to use new fonts".

any help?

just love this app and love that you can make the icon smaller.
but i have a question when i am going into the theme customiser from setting it does not start. Does it now needs PR 1.3 to work properly and if can deinstall and install it again.
Pls help i am missing on all the benefits of this app

When I open TC the settings window becomes unresponsive. It's really a minor thing not even annoying. Just put it here because you seem to use this thread as a bug tracker... :)

Pls help why am i not able to use TC and am not able to update even to the new version

Does the TC require PR 1.3 or some other files conflicting with it

Yeah, that's because it's Qt program and Nokia didn't implement Qt plugins to be ran from settings application properly. So that's just something you need to live with :(

Technically it's the same if you don't change anything from UI and tap the "save and reboot" button; customizer still runs all the things and makes all changes with given parameters even you changed or didn't change anything.

Hi d-iivil, am using version 0.9-52 but still getting this problem, rebooting the phone dosnt help either.

Can you send me the font you're trying to import? Also tell me where did you placed the font so I can try to import the same font from same location on my device.

I also uploaded version 0.9-53 to devel with following changes:
* changed the save as new theme -function to be able to overwrite existing themes created by theme customizer
* removed the save as new theme -button from main UI, please use the option from top menu instead

I'm sure you can find enough information on how PR1.3 is working around this forum to make up your mind.

I personally haven't faced any new problems after upgrading to PR1.3.

Thanks for the app.

But how do i restore everything to default?
I think the app icon was somehow different.. After i change it there's no more shadow behind it..

Restore theme files doesn't work..
Restarting doesn't work either

How do i restore eveythng to original?

Thanks, i have downloaded PR 1.3 and havent faced problems yet.

I was able to download the theme customiser. Thanks for this effort it helps in not getting of your desktop.

just come across an idea can expandible icons be made with transitions. what i mean is suppose we press the the calculator icon instead of taking us to the full application and takes its own time, it just expands say to take half the desktop size and we can use the calculator there and there instead a new window opening.

There is a box saying show apps background, I belive thats the kind of shadow you are looking for.

Sorry, I'm fixing / implementing new stuff pretty much on the fly when my brains gets something fixed up. I really haven't had a lot of time to actually do all things promised here (yet) :)

I'll add a screenshot of what the desktop looks like when customizer is done. In background you see conky which regularly updates but is completely unreadable. On top there is the black rectangle, which I guess belongs to system menu (the one opened with tapping on battery icon area). The other menu (opened by pressing the button on the side of N900) opens and offers the standard entries including reboot and shutdown. So I can at least shutdown correctly and restart the device.

This is about using dsmetool for starting services. I guess, desktop should already run under this supervision, in which case it would make no sense in starting it this way again. Otherwise, I didn't find any hints that it is really started using dsme. Guess I will have to play around with my device a bit.
Besides that, the tool seems to have changed a bit since writing the linked entry: on cmdline it says:

The option -k doesn't seem to restart the given service again.

Sadly, I didn't find more infos on that. The thread about activity manager also just mentions killing the desktop. I cannot find the thread where I read about another solution.

I already use dsmetool to shutdown and restart hildon-home. hildon-desktop should be safe to just kill. I'll try to see if I can use the dsmetool to restart the hildon-desktop also. In my previous tests I could successfully shutdown the hildon-desktop, but for some reason I couldn't get it back up using dsmetool, that's why I ended up using just killall command.

I did some playing with theme customizer today and changed about ten times fonts, icons sets and colors and now I think I figured out when and why desktop doesn't restart anymore: It seems to have to do with MyContacts (the app/widget which groups contacts and let them get accessed from desktop easily) which seems to run like a kind of a daemon (wasn't aware of that, always thought when enabling the widget and closing the app it's closed). Restarting worked perfectly when MyContacts doesn't run. As soon as I started it (even without adding the widget) the desktop was f***ed up after restart and I had to reboot. So it's not your fault at all and I gues you can't even do anything about it.
So I'll have to keep in mind to first close MyContacts and then do changes to appearance. Kind of annoying but both apps (MyContacts as well as Theme Customizer) are needful.

Nevertheless, I still haven't found the comment about restarting that hildon stuff. :( (makes me think I'm getting old and senile)

Try with 0.9-56 which should be on devel any minute now.

Changelog is
* small changes to restarting services when not choosing to autoreboot
* un-needed backups are automaticly removed now

I changed all killalls to dsmetool shutdown and startup -method.

I'm so sorry to say, but now it's even worse than before.
MyContacts was not running, I changed font in theme customizer, applied changes and after saying sthg like "restarting services" the desktop was crap again. But in difference to before, all icons were put to top left corner. I could open top in xterm by system menu but I didn't get the focus to that window. So I again had to reboot ...
Good side: the desktop didn't get completely messed up, like it does somtimes, when that hildon stuff dies. After reboot everything was fine again. (Before it was restored too, you shall not think it messed up my desktop every time).

OK, it's not as easy as it sounds:

changing directly after upgrade with MyContacts not running failed
changing after reboot with MyContacts not running succeeded
changing after first success with MyContacts running failed

It's reproducable that MyContacts prevents desktop from getting restarted. So it looks like being the same behaviour as before. But somehow I think, it was faster before. :o

Yes, killall is faster than dsmetool first shutting it down' then sleep for few seconds and then start them up with dsmetool again.

I'll revert back to killall and investigate if I can shutdown the mycontacts before killing the desktop and then start mycontacts again.

Just realized: after last change the system dock was gone (where clock and connection state is displayed). Only items left were button for accessing application list and name of provider. (sorry, forgot to take a screenshot). Obviously something didn't get restarted correctly. Besides that, everything else worked fine.

Okay, try 0.9-57

Now it detects if mycontacts is running, kills it, then kills desktop etc and finally starts all of those including mycontacts if it was running in the first place.
