Re: [REQUEST] Community purchase plan for the Nokia N9

Just a note about shipping to Canada. My experience has been that most, if not all, of the couriers charge exorbitant "brokerage fees" to import things into Canada. These fees are on top of the 7-12% taxes that Canadians are charged no matter how something is imported. They start at $25 and can go over $100 for really expensive items.

So I have found that the good old US Postal Service is a reliable way to ship from the US. They simply bill you for the taxes, payable upon delivery to my local post office. As for other countries, I'm not sure, but I'd suspect their postal services are probably similar.

Got my 64GB N9 from negri electronics today. Unlike some previous buyers, mine was NOT starhub branded. It's made in China and is the Australia variant. And it's bloody awesome :D

I hope the rest of you looking for N9s find them soon!

This is just the kind of confidence feedback I needed. My order has now been place. Cannot wait to get my hands on the blue one! Probably the last Nokia I will buy... although I may re-buy a N95 one day - just for kicks.

Good old N95. The first mobile phone I bought was N95 (the previous ones were from work place). It was the first mobile phone that seemed exciting enough to use my own money on.

It is only fitting that the first phone I will buy after that is the N9. Also the last Nokia I can see myself buying on the foreseeable future. May it serve me well for many years to come..

My second 64 black just arrived too (this time from Negri) and the (white, made in china) label on the box does not show branding, as opposed to the one from whymobile.com that had Starhub branding on the label and was branded so.

Can anyone else who received branded or unbranded 64 GB phones from Negri confirm if the sticker reflects the branded (or lack of it)? I'm not sure I'm going to open it since it was my backup, but I'm curious.

EDIT: I opened it. It's unbranded. Looks like imported from australia.

I just received my 64gb N9 from Negri today, and can confirm that it is unbranded. As someone coming from an N900 and had an N800, it certainly is taking some getting used to. I may post some more thoughts about the N9 from a maemo user's perspective once I play around with it some more.

seems like Negri is getting them wherever they can. Good on you for getting one unbranded too!

I think the real miss for me from coming from the N900 is the lack of widgets on the home screen. While the feed makes it a little nicer in some aspects, its propensity to group everything i do into one list (news, twitter) is a tad annoying and the ability to add another home screen, or quickly switch feeds (is there a way to ads RSS to the feed?) would be very useful.

Re: [REQUEST] Community purchase plan for the Nokia N9

Friends got two 64gb Black N9's from Malaysia, they were branded. But the 64gb ones from Dubai were not, despite being wrapped in branding.

Against better judgement, I opened up my 16gb N9 from Dubai, and it was also not branded - the wrapper had their logo all over the thing.

Expected a delivery of a Magenta and Cyan N9 today, both are held up in customs.

I'm still working channels, some folks are only able to get small amounts. I still have about 20 people on the list, I'm still going through friends and folks here.

Slowly. No real updates this week guys. Sorry about that.

Re: [REQUEST] Community purchase plan for the Nokia N9

So it seems like the 64gb from Dubai are the best priced or the ones from Malaysia? Wouldn't it be better to go with the ones that aren't branded for future upgrades etc, or does that all not matter with a quick flash? I may have a friend in UAE that could help me, if not I'll be looking here for sure. Thanks to all those who've contributed to this thread.

I may be able to get one from a friend who is visiting Mexico. Anybody know if there is a place to buy an unlocked N9 near Cabo San Lucas?

Weird, 64GB N9 from Msia should not be branded as none are on contract. Only 16GB black are offered by telcos.

Aiyoo :eek:. I put out a few posts earlier about getting the 64GB but you all seem to able to obtain it from online stores like superbuy.

Take note, very important, tell your friends (I'm from Malaysia):
1) Malaysia 64GB, 16GB cyan, 16GB magenta are all sold unlocked. ONLY the 16GB black are on contract with - Digi & Celcom. Correction, Celcom has 16GB black & cyan
Plus, those who won the N9 contest, if not mistaken, they also get 16GB black, but non branded, unlocked from Nokia. They can sell cheap as they got it free.;)

2) 64GB (black only) are very limited. According to the dealer, mostly reserved for pre-order customers those who didnt get it during launch (like me). 3rd batch 64GB will come, but dunno how loonggg that will take.

@gerbick so what about the clues for China / Finland N9s? Can you track what countries / stores are selling this or that version?
My Cyan 16Gb N9 arrived today, and is Made in China :( (white sticker). I bougth it from Expansys USA and imported to here, Spain (short tip: Don't do it! So bureaucratic...). It also has that weird US power plug, don't care so much, but... will be nice if we can find in the box the evidences of what's inside, power connector, etc...

No offense (and much appreciation) to those of you who created and maintained this thread, but I thought I would post that for a week or so (perhaps longer) N9s have been available on Amazon.

Looking at the listing, now, where it is sold by FGS trading (no idea who) but the order is fulfilled by Amazon. That means the item is stored in Amazon's warehouses. I'm a Prime customer and the N9 is showing up with the Prime logo, meaning free 2 day shipping. The list price for the black 16gb is $670 (i refuse to list 99c prices, sorry) with a limited amount in stock.

The "more buying choices" ad underneath the "add to cart" button shows some at $650 + free shipping.

I may jump on that. if i do, i'll obviously respond and let you know hwo it goes, and try to answer the questions that have popped up regarding the manufacturer, screen quality etc.

A friend working in Thailand said the Nokia store told him it would be 18,900 Baht (570ish USD) and available in November. I am not competent enough to try organize buying/selling these things or comfortable being a middleman, but perhaps this may help you if you know of someone going to Thailand.

Re: [REQUEST] Community purchase plan for the Nokia N9

Expansys has lowered the black 16GB prices to $735 plus $27 shipping. All of the other colours are still around $800. I still haven't found anything cheaper in Canada. There's one place being resold through Amazon.ca called "omegacell", but they only have black 16 GB units for even more than Expansys.

I guess there's no options except (1) import from somewhere else or (2) pony up the big bucks... :(

Hey Qole I feel you I'm in Halifax and desperately been trying to get a 64gb for a reasonable price. I just caved today and ordered a 64gb Black from worldwidevoltage.com for $731 CAD shipping incl. It's not too bad since I was thinking of spending around $700 anyways. Hope this helps , Cheers and good luck.

The N9 is selling in NZ (where I am) if anybody wants one. NZ/US exchange rate is a bit high at the moment though.

Re: [REQUEST] Community purchase plan for the Nokia N9

I just got my new black 16 GB N9 from Amazon on the Nov 11th. The merchant I purchased it through was called transformersandgsmphones
The purchase was painless, and they delivered my new phone quickly. One weird thing about them was they required an adult (21yrs or older with ID) to sign for it. Their price was 680 + 4.95 shipping, but I didn't pay that much because I had a couple amazon gift cards to burn up :)

The N9 is a made in china version, unbranded, which was a relief. Everything has gone smoothly with the phone. I absolutely love it, and don't regret the purchase one bit. I've had all the maemo IT's, sans the N800, so this was kinda the final symphony for me. I felt I had to get the N9 to complete the set. Nokia hasn't disappointed on hardware or polish. I am very pleased with meego and it's maturity, it's like a nice blend of webOS and maemo, the only two OS's I really consider usable. I look forward to running it through the paces and learning everything I can from the device and the community.

Maj3stic, please let me know how your transaction goes, they seem to be reasonably priced $699 usd for a 64gb is right around the ballpark for me to commit. If you can update when you receive it would be appreciated with info like made in china/finland, branded or unbranded etc. Thanks ahead of time!

worldwidevoltage is currently out of stock for the 64gb said they will get stock in a week or two, so far they have the best price I've seen here in the states at $699 and they have an A+ rating with the BBB and they said it's unbranded. Tempted to wait till they're in stock again.

Everyone who has gotten a phone from mobilecityonline have they all been starhub branded. Definitely trying to avoid a branded phone.

Re: [REQUEST] Community purchase plan for the Nokia N9

Hey Zach ye i unfortunately found out today that my order was a backorder but the guy said they are getting a new shipment within 2-3days. Another guy said 2-3 weeks so rather than waiting i just changed it to the 16gb Magenta, even though its not much less just a mere $50 but I don't care at this point i just want the phone. Also I barely used 10gbs on my n900 so maybe 64gb is unnecessary for me. They said my order has been processed/ shipped today through express. Once i receive it I will notify you of where it's made and stuff. Cheers

Has anyone purchased through Amazon via the FGS Trading option, or have any input?? I've been looking for the best option as far as cost and customer service, and I know Amazon would help me if any QC issues arise with a phone purchased from them...I'm just wondering what phones they carry in stock (Chinese/Finnish, etc...I'd assume they're unbranded?) and if they're a better move than expansys here in the US. I'll be buying a 16gb model in black from them this week if everything checks out okay, since 659USD shipped with Amazon backing sounds like a good deal. If you have any advice you find necessary, or any recent updates, I'd appreciate it!

Oh! I was just told that newegg.ca now is carrying the N9 in Canada! Sure enough, there's my blue 16GB model, for $670 CAD ($750 after tax) with free shipping. That's still more than I was hoping to pay, but it is a lot cheaper than expensis.ca

Funny, they call it the "Nokia Lankku N9", I've never seen a retailer use the pre-production code name before.

jalyst 2011-11-28 15:31

Re: [REQUEST] Community purchase plan for the Nokia N9

Best prices I've seen in Australia for 16GB are quite a bit better than that (approx $590 CAD inc 10% GST).
I've only just started looking, doesn't mean I'll get much better than that though.

But your find isn't too bad, especially considering the N9's not officially available in Canada.
And at least you finally have a few local retailers stocking it now...
If it were me though, I'd probably buy it from country where it's officially available & cheaper.

Someone mentioned in the other pricing thread that Newegg's fairly good now after a coupon
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=78574&page=66
I hope this improves Amazon, & in turn influences Newegg etc. :)
Of course, our NA friends are never going to have the pricing they could've, if everything had been different.
