Yes, many people has this problem as well including me. I no longer turn on chat all the time because it has been a big source of battery drain for me

i'm trying to enable key based login for root login over ssh

but after generating the keys to /root/.ssh/
and creating the folder /root/.ssh/authorized_keys/
and copying the public key over to that folder, i noticed that the /root/.ssh/ contents are wiped periodically.

what am i doing wrong?

edit+: looks like what i was doing wrong was that the folder is actually supposed to be a file.. and i have not yet at least had the contents suddenly disappearing again

on a finnish forum, there was a lot of discussion about this, and it seems that for some, the light is blinking while charching and for some it only lights up when the phone is powered on.

there was also someone who claimed to have managed to get it to work by editing the ini file that controls the led (same as in n900), but i cannot remember if anyone else replicated his results.

It would be amazing to get this working for alerts (sms/email/missed call). Was surprised this was missed off as a feature in the OS.

Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!

mine works when charging. for alerts you have icons on the lock screen anyway. although the light will be nice (i believe it's only 1 colour - white)

email nokia care... in the meantime maybe reset your device (or wait for update, if it doesn't work after update reset device, if still not working then most likely hardware fault)

I know there was an option to change the favourite folders into recently received mails for the mail app, but I don't find the option anymore (settings, applications, mail?)

Anybody can help me?

Well it surely is handy to have light indicator while charging but I guess I can live without it. More concern about battery life now as it seriously drain easily when i am connected to the IMs. Battery life seemed much better after IM turned off while other services is still running like push mail.

did you remove any mail accounts? i think you need more than 1 to be able to have favourites (i may be wrong)

as for LED indicator.. i found the file to configure it.. although i've got a rough idea how to, until someone comes with specific instructions i'm not going to (I do have write permissions to the file though)

do you use 2 step verification by any chance?
gmail loaded real slow with 2 step verification here (with application specific pass), but fine when it was turned off. just thought google might be having issues with it.

Anybody expericence that the NOKIA N9 back cover which cover the usb charging seems too easily breakable. Mine is almost going to break. Is this problem for everyone or only for me. Does it comes under warranty repair.

I've had no problem with the cover for the usb - but, then again, my N900 usb charging connector never gave me any problem either.

Some found that it doesn't sit flush...
So they carefully took it off, & then snapped back in place, & then it was better.

I have the same problem with my N9. It behaves similar way with all compass applications, the 'needle' directs to same direction all the time, no movement at all. When I turn the screen downwards, then the ring starts to rotate randomly. I've tested this both in- and outdoors. The text: 'Rotate the phone 2-3 times for more accurate results' does not dissappear and there is no degree -reading. Haven't checked the syslog though...

LED support is broken, as far as I know.

MohammadAG built a small daemon for controlling it, but it was quickly deprecated with subsequent software updates. I'm sure when a "stable" FW release that doesn't squash 3500 bugs is released, LED support can be hacked back on and be completely functional.

Hey guys, just ordered mine online from MCO. I'm in NYC so it's easy for me to walk to the store if I need anything.

I'm excited to start some development using QT and was wondering what kinds of "entry level" applications you guys could help me brainstorm? I know simple things like NYC subway maps is a must have for me, and will probably be my first app. Otherwise, what do you all think?

I'm just getting my feet wet in higher level languages so be gentle :)

Yesterday, I noticed that a green slightly misaligned icon had appeared in my "apps view"

A screenshot of this is attached.
When entering the "edit" mode for the view, this icon does not have the red X on the upper right corner, but it can be moved around.
Nothing happens when trying to push it.

Does anyone know from where i can manually remove this, or check what it is?

Check your settings -> applications to see what apps are installed. Crosscheck this with your appgrid. The odd one out is your culprit, I assume.

Everything that is listed there has a working icon in the app grid.

by the way, i noticed that the video on html 5 player does not continuously load the video once it is paused. any work around for that, as i using a slow connection and would like to preload the video first before viewing. cute tube gives the same problem as well but at least offers tools to dowbload the whole video.

The N9 is looking more to be like the N900... castrated... that's why it's missing the 00.

Musikloud (on nokia store) has that in the latest build. note sure how it is though. might only work for playing through soundcloud but may work for playing the downloaded songs too. if it works for the downloaded songs then maybe having the ones you want in the same folder may be a temp measure until someone can make a proper method for the default music player(if possible)

The N9 is much more looking like the N900 at launch than the N900 castrated. Actually, the N9 allready has much more support of things than the N900 had at the same age (and one would expect that).

I agree with Erendorn. This is exactly whatthe N900 felt like when I got my hands on it.

My "castrated" comment was more in reference to the browser than anything else. Coming from MicroB, the default browser is missing so many features that should have been inherited - multi step visual back, saved passwords (lol?), bookmarks (2xlol?), etc. Is the new browser fast? Hell yes! Would I prefer MicroB running on the N9 at this moment? I'd give some hair off my chin for that.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I totally agree that the N9 already has more support for things than the N900 - just unfortunately at the expense of things that are just expected to be...

Got rid of the green circle, by clicking on the latest created desktop icon in here: /home/user/.local/share/applications/

after that, the green not working icon is gone, and an operator sim services icon appeared in its place

The scrobbling works for downloaded tracks, and copying other tracks to the archive directory should work. However, it looks like there is a scrobbler in the works: https://github.com/felipec/maemo-scrobbler

Anyone know if its possible to activate Bluetooth PAN or override the block on Wifi Tethering?

Does anybody know what's the status of WPA encryption? Is it planned to be in PR1.1 or 1.2? Answer would be much appreciated.

Edit: I just realized that WPA PEAP worked just fine. So my question is pointless I think. Sorry.

Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!

Hello all.

Let me start by saying that I currently use a 16gb iPhone 4s. I had all of the iPhones with a 6 month use of a samsung focus between the iPhone 4 and 4s as I lost the 4 in a cab and needed something till the newest iPhone came out. I also had a bang and olufsen serene before the first iPhone so I appreciate having something that is well designed and somewhat rare, That said the iPhone 4s works very well and I have no complaints except that I recently held the N9 and was quite taken with it.

Now I am considering returning my iPhone 4s and getting the N9 but I have some questions. I have read through all of the posts here and these are the things that are of interest:

I drive a porsche and inside it is a PCM (porsche communications management) that allows me to use the phone through a bluetooth connection. I have read others post with issues of NOT being able to have access to the phones directory. Is this true? Does it work on some systems and not others? If not then is there no way to scroll through my phone book through the cars interface?

How is the use of the speaker phone to conduct calls as I have heard the speaker is rather quiet.

How are the alerts? I really appreciate well done clear alerts that are not song based and the serene I had did this beautifully with super cool noises.

I guess thats all I really want to know. I found the phone to feel and look amazing and I understand that sometimes one has to live with quirks in order to have something unique. If what matters most to me in use is: Make phone calls, robust messaging capabilities, internet and pictures, and facebook will I be happy coming from a 4s? Also does anyone know if Shazam will be available?

LAST question... I read that iTunes will sync your photos and contacts and music ... is this true and is it easily done?>

Thank you very much,

X-

Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!

So, is it true that joikuspot is blocked in the US, especially on newer phones? this could be why the n9 hotspot doesnt work on US carriers?

I have been reading newer nokia models at tmobile like the astound, cant even install it. and if you install it manually it wont load.

Im sure sooner or later someone will find a work around/hack but this sucks if its true.
