Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

I have created a known issue when using waze on N900 with custom settings which cause the 20% battery level to always show on start regradless of the real battery level.
This is caused by QtMobility stop recognizing the battery level and always report 0%.

A possible workaround is to disable the battery level check as noted here.
Or in short, add the following section to ~/MyDocs/.waze/data/preferences.ini:
Code:

[Battery]
CheckPeriod=0

Compatible with all previous Waze-qt releases.

Any news regarding the Fremantle version?

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

And again, Waze does not work!
Can not find a network connection! What to do?
:( (Latvia)

the only bug the prevents me from releasing v0.0.13 is the initial window/orientation on N900.
Again, this will contain only usability fixes.

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

And, hopefully a fix for the infinite looping on loss of Internet connection. This is still present in the 0.9 release.

[Edit]: And, one cannot search twice in the 0.9 release. Pattern: first search fails or returns nothing - any attempt at second search causes immediate crash/abend/panic. Completely, repeatable.

Thanks again!

i havnt tried porting to sailfish since i dont believe in simulators and require a real device (especially when gps apps are involved).
anyway, porting should be a breeze as sailfish is based on qt4.8.

as it looks this project will need a new maintainer in several months as ppl in this forum noticed, it takes me a lot of time to make new releases. Are you volunteering?

don't have a device either. have a motorola defy+ which have quit similar hardware as the N9 and i will try to port sailfish to it as soon as the arm sailfish os version comes available

and waze is one of the android apps that i use the most, thats why i was looking if a port to sailfish is possible

N900 users:
Since you missed v0.0.12, I would like to use you as "lab rats" in testing the v0.0.13 pre-release.
It contains several UI changes and a possible fix for the network issues - it worked ok for me in Israel but as we have learned in the hard way, Israel server's differ from the rest of the world ones.
No need to delete the .waze directory - it is an optional step.

I do not upload it to the repos as I want to verify the fixes first.

Get it here: http://waze-qt.googlecode.com/files/...0_12_armel.deb

that is expected, i have yet to track this issue.
the net fixes are more for the neverending navigation and various downloads

It contains several UI changes and a possible fix for the network issues - it worked ok for me in Israel but as we have learned in the hard way, Israel server's differ from the rest of the world ones.
No need to delete the .waze directory - it is an optional step.

I do not upload it to the repos as I want to verify the fixes first.

Thank you, thank you!

Update seems quite a bit brisker! UI instantiates correctly. Will have to find a GSM "black hole" to test network disconnects. However, two searches still crashes the app.

Nice new set of icons and having major features under the lower left Waze icon is really handy when driving.

Still the best app on the N900. Well done!

Get it here: http://waze-qt.googlecode.com/files/...0_12_armel.deb

Installed it and used it today - looks good and no issues so far :)
Thanks.

Scumbag Waze - they try to force usage of a file named ".png" because most likely that filename was added to Waze3.0 enums and since we are on Waze2.4 it cant figure out the image name so it is left blank - and hence the missing file name ".png" - most likely to cause a crash if not exist and it doesn't.

I didn't get enough feedback about the network fixes - so I am making a v0.0.13 pre-release also available for N9/N950 - get it here: http://waze-qt.googlecode.com/files/...0.12_armel.deb

Please note that if you have installed it from apps4meego or from store, you will need to uninstall before installing this pre-release (because of aegis).

Again, no need to remove .waze directory - it is optional.

damagedspline - there is a small ui issue on N900 - every few seconds, the waze screen becomes black for a second. it also happened in previous version - are you aware of this issue?

Yes, it is a known issue that is related to map refresh.

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

Several things to ask:

1. the map displayed in waze on N900 seems to be different (older version) than map on world.waze.com. Why ?

2. when started in portrait mode, waze will not fill the screen properly but it's smaller with black frame. When rotated to landscape and then back to portrait the problem is fixed. I think this was in previous version as well.

3. new GUI integrated icons into one big instead. So far I realized that there is also no longer displayed my GPS speed (had no navigation, just waze turned on) even that it is enabled in properties.

4. this new GUI also caused that when I want to report even (crash, obstacle, etc.) I can not do that by one simple touch but now I have to touch it twice - first go to menu, then click on event. For me this seems to be less comfortable then before.

1. Only the icons changed.
2. Known issue for the last 3 releases.
3. GPS speed is always shown. In landscape it is always visible and in portrait it is shows every 5 seconds instead of the remaining miles/kms
4. You can do it with a swipe. SWipe the right reports key to the left. Same goes for navigation when swiping the left key to the right.

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

For the point 1 - this problem seems to exist in the old version as well (verified). I am wondering why it's different... so far I think the Android users has the more actual map (I am driving to/from work near the new tunnels with brand new multilevel crossing and altough this is correctly displayed in world.waze.com live map I have the old crossing in my Waze on N900, no matter that I wiped out all the cache and everything from the mobile, the old version will download again from somewhere...).

For the rest I will try ;)

K240 2013-05-06 18:56

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

Recalling the point 1, it seems that it was just displayed in strange way, overlaying the new crossing so it was not displayed as I expected. Sorry for false alarm :)

However for the point 3 I tried it today and the speed is indicated only when navigating. If I am not navigating and just running the Waze, I do not see anything but 3 icons on the display. No speed anywhere (definitely not in portrait mode).

Israel is a small country so it made a lot of noise here. Anyway, everyone should cross their fingers that if that happens, they will not change the Waze API as this port will not survive such change.

I was looking at your roadmap. When you hit QML design in 0.0.14 - ping me.

Also, I noticed, all my kilometers and points were not uploaded or transferred.
Kind of takes the joy out of Waze. Can that be fixed, please? :)

Why wait? The main view is already qml based ;) All thats left are lots of menus to convert. I dont think i'll manage to convert them all in one release. I think i'll start with the navigation & settings menus.

about the score, it takes a couple of days to be digested in thier servers.

What's this rumour about Waze being sold to Facebook? As Waze maps are built by millions of users is it fair to sell their efforts to another party who will probably charge for using Waze?

knobtviker 2013-05-16 07:27

My mistake, sorry. :)
Will you do direct port in QML for menus or do a car usage friendly size? :)

Configurable QML - see "The New Waze" deb (mockup app) for N9 (search the thread).
In the settings there is an option to have a grid mode (like win8) or menu mode.
The only restriction is that qtcomponents are forbbiden (N900 & Ubuntu) and we are limited to qtquick 1.0 (N900).

I suppose there is some statement in the license of the Waza saying that anything you will add to the map become property of Waze. So from this point of view it's maybe not very nice but fair enough as you allowed them to do that.
About the charging - I doubt that Facebook will dare to charge for using it. What I am expecting is the massive integration, possibly showing your FB friends on the map, automatic posting of the status or some 5hit like that :)

Anyway, it would be hard to refuse to sell Waze for such amount of money so the question is not IF but WHEN this will happen. Only thing we can do is to pray that damagedspline's port will work long (and good) enough to server us before we will all move to Android or some new Linux-based mobile device.

When the waze make the sound, lower the volume in your car system. That will lower the bluetooth sound profile on the phone (yes, lower in the car system will lower in the phone but only when it plays).
Instead of using waze to make the sound, you can play an mp3 or something and lower it than. that setting will be kept.

that's the problem - i am using a music player (someplayer) at the same time, and i don't want to lower it's sound - only waze's
