Help! Can't flash N9, says 'downgrade' not allowed :(
1 Attachment(s)
My friend's N9 was behaving weird, he gave it to me, I flashed his with my FWs. Everything went fine for 20-25 days.. then one day his phone turned off and when turned on it automatically turned off.. we removed the SIM card, it turned on okay, no problem at all. So with SIM card on, it was turning off. I reflashed his N9 with my FWs again, but SIM card turn off error was not fixed.
Then I decided to download his product specific FWs from Navifirm (these files are huge and we don't have high speed connection.. sigh).. now I've downloaded his FWs, but failed to flash.. it says downgrading not allowed.. my FWs product code was 06, his is 05.. so this could be the issue. Now I have 2 questions: 1. that SIM error, was it a FW problem or a HW one? 2. If that's a FW problem, how can I flash his N9 with his specific FWs? The phone runs okay without the SIM card.. what to do? Help me.. attaching the flasher screenshot btw :/ |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
aminulahsan,
Firstly post large screenshots of the whole process not only the bottom part of the log. Right from the first moment you typed commands till the end screenshots in large readable size should be posted. Secondly, it clearly says downgrade disallowed meaning you need to use proper FW image for your device. The flasher output would mention the image version of your device as well as the one you are trying to flash. That would give a better idea then your own guessing of things. |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
I've desperately looking for a valid link to the flasher.
I've managed to download the NaviFirm and the firmware for my model, but I just can't find the Flasher for my N9. Does anyone have a working link? Thanks a lot. |

HELP PLEASE: Accidentally flashed Nokia N9 Cyan 16GB to improper firmware
Hello everyone-
I decided yesterday that I would attempt to install the latest version of NITDroid on my Nokia N9 Cyan 16GB (Product Code: 059K114). During the process, I accidentally downloaded the wrong firmware (.bin) file, and I ended up downloading the PR 1.3 firmware file for an N9 on 3 Mobile: 059L722: N9 RM-696 3 SE SE Cyan 16GB V1_COLOR. Not realizing I had downloaded the wrong firmware, I flashed the improper firmware successfully onto my N9. Once the phone booted up and I realized I had downloaded the wrong firmware, I downloaded the proper firmware for Malaysian variant of the N9: 059K114: RM-696 NDT MALAYSIA CYAN 16GB. However, when I attempted to reflash my N9 back to the original firmware I got a "Downgrade disallowed" message and the flashing process abruptly stopped with the following error message: http://i.imgur.com/hNBOydy.jpg Remember, I'm not trying to reflash my phone back to an older firmware, just the original PR 1.3 version that was on my phone. Hence, I'm not sure why I'm getting this message when I attempt to flash the phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. -bobofosho123 |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
bobofosho123,
Just stick to which firmware you flashed; you can't downgrade to a lower PR Legacy so just stick to the one you have on your device; anyway it makes little to no difference... The little difference may simply be the pre-loaded maps are not what you used to have so you can delete them and install others; not a big deal anyway... |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
I don't have a problem with new firmware per say, the issue is that I now have two new problems that I didn't have before flashing this firmware. The first one is that my N9 is no longer remembering my passwords for any accounts and prompts me for them whenever I try to flash the device. The second one is that whenever I attempt to execute any command in terminal in root mode I always get a "permission denied" message. Any ideas?

Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
you haven't flashed correctly? Flash the same image you flashed with as the passwords issue is an open mode issue and if you flash properly it should return to normal mode.
|
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Ok, will do. Thanks for your help. I'm redownloading the same image again to make sure it's not somehow corrupt. I'll reflash the device with the image again and report back when done. Much obliged!

N9 Stuck on Bootscreen (too many reboots)
Hello Everyone,
I have a Nokia N9 16GB with meego 1.2. Last night i tried to install android on it using sillyboot and os flashing. I accidently installed sillyboot 2 times, one was the original silly boot one was silly boot v2 and flashed it. I bricked the phone and when i am trying to turn it on first it gives me the warning message and then the Nokia Logo and then a message that Device Not Working Properly and this :- "Try Updating your device software with Nokia Software Updater. If the problem presists please contact the Nokia Care Centre. problem (inforserver); too many reboots" I tried flashing it again but it didnt worked. Please help me :'( if my mom finds out about it i am doomed =P :'( |
Re: N9 Stuck on Bootscreen (too many reboots)
Well, first things first. Do you have backups of the device (backups that are OUTSIDE the device, I mean), and if not, do you have anything of value on the phone that you would need to back up?
If you have backups, or do not care about the data in the device, full flashing it (rootfs+emmc) will recover the device to "factory state" If you have data on the device that you need to back up, then it gets a bit trickier but it is doable. |
Re: N9 Stuck on Bootscreen (too many reboots)
I have the data on my phone but i dont care just random songs and stuff ... i just want my phone to be back alive again ... is there a tutorial of how to do that? cuz i just learnt flashing last night
|
Re: N9 Stuck on Bootscreen (too many reboots)
Well, look at the sticky thread on the top of the "Devices/Nokia N9 / N950" forum. There should be everything you need to know.
In a nutshell, you need to get 2 rather large files, the emmc (about 1.6G) and the firmware (about 1.2G), which are dependent on your device localization and version. Then, flash both images with command "sudo flasher -f -F firmware.bin -F emmc.bin -R" That operation takes something like 10 minutes. |
Re: N9 Stuck on Bootscreen (too many reboots)
I got the firmware file through Navifirm but there is no link for the emmc file you mentioned. Where do i get that?
|
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
moazzam,
Its on Navifirm too... Typically the file name contains EMMC in it... Paste the screenshot of what you see in Navifirm otherwise for someone to point it out for you... |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
1 Attachment(s)
Okay i got both the files and now when i am flashing it it give me this battery low error. I tried charging it for like and hour but its still on 2%.
|
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
It's possible you have a bad cable or an USB port on the device that cannot source the needed current.
Happened to me last week; I had a cable that I used to charge my N9, when I connect it to the device it says correctly "charging", but after some hours when I went to see it, the battery had run flat and I needed to jumpstart my phone with the flasher. With other cables, it works correctly. With this one, it dtrains the battery, go figure? And to top it off, the same cable works OK for data transfer... |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Yeap you were right i changed the wire and now it charged to 11% and than i think it flashed and and now the screen is blank and the little white dot is blinking ... i am waiting for the reboot now
|
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
moazzam,
Plug out the USB cable and manually boot it up as you must have not used the -R parameter in your command,,, |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
its been like 4 hours i think its still blinking :/
|
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
i used the -R command as matter of fact this was the command
"flasher -f -F N9new.bin -F DFL61_HARMATTAN_20.2011.40-4.ALPS_EMMC_ALPS.bin -R" |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
just plug it out and manually boot it...
|
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Now it is stuck on the "Nokia Logo" and it reboots :'(
ohh btw on the navifirm my version "059L8L7" comes only in 20.2011.40.4 and 10.2011.34.1 i tried the 20.2011.40.4 version was that okay? |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
and now after some reboots the previous "too many reboots" is back
|
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
so heres the thing ... i looked over the internet to see if i was flashing it right and people have this blue bar immediatly after they flashed ... it appeared on my screen but it disappears after the first second :/
|
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Can you post the otput of the flasher command, does it indicate any errors in the flashing process?

But you can try to download fw files for product code which is mentioned at back of SIM card tray. Check first post which talks about recovering from flash errors. These errors are related to cellular modem files. |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
My nokia N9(switzerland 059k748) turned off by itself one fine day and it went into a boot-loop(starts up with nokia logo and turns off, and that keeps going on like that). Then i thought of flashing the device. I used Navifirm 1.7 to download the respective firmware for my device. Then using flasher 3.12.1 i tried flashing it. But im getting errors in the process. i tried several times re-downloading the firmware and flashing again. I have even tried flashing it with another country specific firmware but had no luck. All i see from the first place now is a warning screen when the phone is started up or is plugged into the usb port.
Here is the error screen i see: WARNING: This tool is intended for professional use only. Using it may result in permanently damaging your device or losing the warranty. Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
H2O,
I'm not 100% sure but iirc that error requires emmc being flashed too or your previous firmware's cmt-mcusw being flashed. If its emmc you may want to take out all your data first by mounting the phone using juiceme's telnet Maybe do a bit of searching on this thread your error may have happened to someone else before... |

1. flasher -F main.bin -f 2. flasher -F main.bin -F emmc.bin -f (with -R as well) 3. flasher -F main.bin -f --flash-only=rootfs, cmt (arguments taken individually as well) No clue on what to do now. Thanks anyways :) |
