Here it is. Don't know what happened, but MyDocs doesn't mount to PC in storage mode, only in sync&backup... Gonna test it with other PC.

The log file shows it works just as expected, thanks.

As for the problems exporting to PC, have you made the needed changes to your /etc/fstab, and checked your /etc/usb-moded/usb-moded.ini ?

I'll check them, but they've been normal today.

Yes, with windows the USB networking does not work out-of-the-box. I guess you'd need to get some driver for it to work.

However, you can get the log files, even when you reformat your mmcblk0p1 back to FAT and boot Harmattan.
The logs are stored in your Harmattan root partition, in /var/log/ directory.
(or, when your partitions are exported in maintanance mode, if you can mount the root directory you can copy the logs from there. For that to work in windows I guess you also need some drivers...)

OMG, little bug - when I plug my device to PC in storage mode, display brightness sets to minimum and low-power clock turns off,

In Harmattan? That's odd, there should be nothing that would make it behave like that.

As juiceme said, you need some additional driver:
connect N9 in terminal mode, open devoce manager and look for an unknown device with RNDIS. Right click and update driver, select list of drivers (lowest selection), look for network devices, on left side choose 'M$ corporation', on right side choose RNDIS (second entry of two), wait for installation finishing. (M$ driver is of course not signed!?? Just confirm )
Now you will have a new LAN adapter in network. You may rename it to N9 RNDIS or not. As ubiboot provides DHCP there is no need to configure.
(this took me a few hours to find the correct driver :()

Enjoy!

p.s.: I do not know (yet) of drivers to mount ext fs to Windoze, but there might be FOSS/Free/Share-Ware alternatives to do so (maybe TotalCommander?). If successful, please report back.

For the RNDIS device, I had posted the link to the Nokia driver before but anyway here is the link again: https://db.tt/kYsGE8vY

What kernel are you running?

Just tested how my device works when I connect it in USB mass memory mode. Of course my Linux PC does not know what to do with the thing, as it does not recognize the FS but nothing remarkable happens in the N9 end, it just unmount the FS and confirms it is charging battery, usual stuff.
I am running 2.6.32.59-plus_nat-20121301 (Tue Sep 3 20:09:42 build version)

Thanks (again) and sorry.
Now I remember to have this downloaded (but to my N900 and it did not make the way to my PC ;)). But 'original' M$ will also work.

Re: Introducing ubiboot N9 (multiboot OS loader)

Released ubiboot-02 (integrated) version, rev. 0.3.4.

  • Support for 6 different OS'es in the menu
  • New tools menu
  • Configurable IP addressing for DHCP & device address
  • Support for EXFAT partitions
  • Automatic numbering and mounting of partitions
  • More versatile configuration, new options
  • Automatic searching for configuration files across all filesystems
  • New kernel command line options; it's possible to append/replace items on the command line
  • Configurable log file locations

Bug fixes:
  • Fixed the typo causing ubifs mount problem on /mnt/u5.
  • Fixed typo that attempted kexec() even when kernel path was incorrect.
  • Removed partitions 8 and 9 from the partition list.

General enhancements:
  • Rewriting the animation toolkit.
  • Removing surplus modules from config
  • Strict versioning compability checks for config/cpio/kernel
  • More logging for success/failure operations

Work in progress:
  • Nearly complete sshd & sftpd for maintanance mode
  • Started implementing WLAN support for maintanance mode

Get it fresh from HERE
See the README file
See the Changelog

Installation notes:
This version is not compatible with any files from the previous versions. Hence you need to review your current ubiboot.conf and put your kernel configuration into the new ubiboot.conf file.

The files are also uploaded at Skeiron, for your convenience:
ubiboot-02_0.3.4_081013.tar

Yes, that's only the hooks in the menu to it.
Backup Menu (and what else tools you'd want there) must be separately installed.

Do you mean the exfat line? I put the same what SourenAraya suggested:

Code:

/dev/mmcblk0p4 /mnt exfat noauto,nodev,noexec,nosuid,noatime,nodiratime,uid=29999,dmask=000,fmask=0133 0 0

That would need integrating to the tools menu. ( I have not looked into it lately since if you check the Changelog you see there was plenty to do with ubiboot :D )

Maybe when I get some time I'll look into it.
Possible scenario;
1. Launcher button under tools menu, in case I want to put other things there later.
2. Actual backup menu stuff as an external scirpt.
3. When exit from backupmenu, restore selectionmenu state and back out from the submenu with nice graphics.

Yes, you just need to configure the rootFS'es.

Bottom line: you cant install uniboot plus kernel(s) and then restore a backup from Backupmenu to avoid to start from zero installing everything again (changes, apps etc) except openmode!? Correct?;)

Re: Introducing ubiboot N9 (multiboot OS loader)

@juiceme
We do still need preinit* in /sbin, right (did not yet have time to check all)?
Then we/you still have that 'SIP under OpenMode' bug! ;)

Well, to install ubiboot you do not need to backup/restore, really, since it resides on its own RAMFS totally.
-->> When you install it your current setup remains.
( well of course if you are in closed mode, you will go open, but who would be in closed mode nowdays any more :D )

Yes, Harmattan needs its own preinit, but the "SIP bug" only manifests when you use such preinit that sets up the IP address like the nitdroid preinit does.

-->> solution, use correct preinit file :D

(and yes, the preinit file in the preinits.tar is wrong but that's because I do not have the original preinit anywhere...)

I do not mind. As I (really :)) know the solution.
I just thought you better edit that file to prevent/save others from that glitch.

I suppose I could put them under the /juice/ubiboot/ hierarchy as that is browseable. Now they are on the upper level where you have to know the name to download a file :D
