Re: Quim keynote on Maemo's switch to Qt as the main toolkit
Maybe a little late to this thread, but I think it is important to clarify some issues:
1. Is it true that application compiled with qt, when the sdk (non beta) is released, for maemo 5, will not have the same look as the gtk+ ones? 2. Since there is no support from nokia for gtk in maemo 6 there is no way to know if gtk applications compiled for maemo 6 will look as they should, like their qt 4.6+ apps 3. At this point as a n900 user I am supposed to buy a device that should get community and commercial support, but at this moment the community/companies do not know if fremantle is worth developing for. 4. As a developer I am supose to come and develop for this device knowing that I may have to totaly rewrite my code. Words like we don't know what it will be implies this. Thanks for your patience. |

There has been some talk about this on the maemo-developers list, you might want to check that out. Search for posts by Kate Alhola. Long story short
1. Qt stuff looks roughly the same, except for a few specific widgets (like calendar picker) 2. There is no way to know how ANYTHING will look in maemo 6. Even if you are GTK, that doesn't mean a maemo 4 app will act Fremantleish just after a recompile 3. Yes (was that a question ?) 4. You will certainly not have to totally rewrite your code, regardless of your choice of GTK or Qt. Here is Kate's closing line on the discussion: Quote:
