Pah, you young'uns ain't seen nothin'. Some of us here are old enough to remember waiting for our Sinclair ZX81s and Spectrums to arrive. The tales I could tell about "28-day delivery" ...

Just let me fetch me liniment and I'll tell ye all about it ...

Using twitter and whatever is not the kind of professional behavior I expect from a serious organization like Nokia.

They should have an 'official' delivery estimation on their N900 product page, below the preorder button. They should email updates to their preorder customers - Amazon can manage to do this.

Although I think the world of Nokia and their superb technology, the failure here is one of poor management of customer expectations.

Since when? Just like on Diablo you can install the proper Telepathy plugins and get whatever IM services you need. :)

I guess it's just not available yet, but wouldn't it be nice to have the manual to read while we wait!

WooHoo! Just saw the manual Post after I read this thread. It's like the Nordic Gods granted my wish immediately!

I'm instantly converted!

Just in case someone miss said post, like I did in my first pass of unread threads,
here is the thread in question.

I'm a slow reader, so by the time I finish digesting the manual maybe my N900 will have arrived ;)

I feel bad for the folks going to Amsterdam for the summit - it's a total fustercluck that they won't have their devices to play along with. In fact, it puts such a dent in the experience I'd probably cancel.

Calm down hogwash, Qgil (Nokia employee) noted a LONG time ago that the N900 was not going to be released in time for the summit. I think the people going to the summit are mostly aware of this fact.
It looks like you just recently joined the forum so I can understand you not knowing certain things. People expecting tablets to be released before the summit were setting themselves up for disappointment.
Nokia said shipping in mid october in select markets at Nokia World and until that doesn't happen you shouldn't overreact.

As for IM protocols maemo can do pretty much every IM protocol and there is community work being done on facebook, twitter etc plugins with release date in the next month or so.

So they intentionally booked the summit before people would have their devices? How backasswards ;)

Yes, I'm a new member, but I've observed from afar for some time. i made the jump as soon as I ordered my N900....I'm committed to developing software for this platform :)
