18months - upgrade at 17months.

From my experience in telecoms though, t-mobile have the worst upgrades system as they give you an upgrade allowance (to spend on a handset) and on upgrades, unless you spend a fortune, the handsets are well expensive (on upgrade recently a friend of mine was quoted £155 for the 5800.. and his upgrade allowance after 18months @ £35/month was £147.50).

Thanks for the interesting info nirave - appreciated

My primary phone is bought and paid for by work, Im with orange and I have my work and personal number on the one sim. Im porting my personal number to the n900. This is my little toy purely for the web experience, so Im happy to switch networks when the 12 months is up if need be. If I stay, it will still work out cheaper than forking out 500 for a sim free n950 or whatever comes next,

Now all I need is for the damn thing to arrive!!

I think I've only ever upgraded once, I always just cancel one contract and start a new (and transfer the number if I wish), purely because new customers/contracts always get better deals (except for the once I upgraded!).

I shall not be canceling my T-Mobile order though, glad I got in there with that pre-order!

The problem I found is T-Mobile never even sell the handset I want anyway, so I have never upgraded. I have however renewed my contract and got a £10 discount each month, so its not too bad.

I am not expecting to replace the N900 quite as quickly anyway. I likely would never have ordered the N900 if my Xperia X1 had come even close to delivering the experience I expected from it. A huge reason I got rid of it was the case cracking design flaw, did not want it to fall apart as soon as my warranty ran out.

I second that about waiting at least 18 months for the N900 replacement!

I hope they focus on this device now, and not do what sometimes happens - forget their release a few months later and put all the work into the next!

Here's something interesting for you all:

meh - vodafone for me, just because the signal is so much better :) - don't mind a little extra cost knowing it works just fine :)

Wouldnt mind if MPD decided to hurry a bit up though and get it delivered hehe :)

I had huge problems with my Motorola V980 on Vodafone. It would constantly flick between 2G and 3G which if I was in the middle of a call at the time, it would cut me off. It would also often fail to receive calls at all.

I am still not sure if it was the V980 at fault or Vodafone. But I certainly wasn't happy that when they sold me the phone they said I would get a call before my contract ran out to discuss renewal but in actual fact I never got a call, it just rolled on for a few months before I realised it should have ended. Had to push support to get a refund of those missed months as I had already switched to T-Mobile anyway due to the problems above and was just waiting for the call to cancel.

To be fair though, you have to argue with all the networks to get refunds as they just blame the customer for everything, that we should KNOW the seller was lying and we have to cancel BEFORE the contract ends or it carries on indefinitely. But still, it rather put me off Vodafone.

I waited a long time to join vodafone but now I wouldn't hesitate in recommending them to anyone.

Voda do rule imho..

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

I've been with Vodafone for a good few years and can't think of one instance where I've had problems with their products or customer service at all. I also can't think of many places I've been where I havn't had signal with them.
So, jumping on the 'Voda rule' bandwagon.
