The main reasons why I didn't include 125MHz yet: * by default the kernel should run with the standard 250-600MHz range but due to bug https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7116 it would automatically switch to 125-600MHz. * the power saving by activating 125MHz are not yet confirmed but Nokia disabled it due to instabilities * with 125MHz enabled I noticed that the device spend most of the time at 600MHz: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=156 I have, however, uploaded an experimental kernel with 125MHz to link removed EDIT: read http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...postcount=1890 |
Re: Compiling custom kernels for P1.1 (with fiasco-gen)
You can set the minimum to 250 in the source, in the same way that you set the maximum to 600.
If you enable 125 by replacing the 0 in the second line, rather than the 250 in the third line, it uses lower voltage than 250, so should gain a lot in situations where the cpu runs constantly at the low frequency (mp3 playing, for example). |

but the bug in pmconfig always overrides it for normal users :( (note: kernel-flasher-maemo is meant for regular users) |

Re: Compiling custom kernels for P1.1 (with fiasco-gen)
Hi titan,
thanks for the work with the kernel. I've been trying to install your custom kernel following your instructions, but the dpkg -i kernel-flasher-maemo_2.6.28-maemo20_armel.deb give me an error about pre-dependency problem: softupd installed is 0.3.3+0m5 but >= 0.4.0 is needed. error were encountered, not installed kernel flasher... So I'm here in front of Xterm, don't know exactly what to do, and don't dare to reboot at this stage because the kernel and modules have already been installed! Infos would be very welcome! thanks |

don't worry about rebooting. the custom kernel can coexist with the stock kernel. |
Re: Compiling custom kernels for P1.1 (with fiasco-gen)
yes I still have the 1.0 (with not even one probleme) so do you think I can remove (dpkg -r) your kernel and modules, then reflash the Zimage I used just before?
By the way, no possibilities to run your kernel with PR 1.0 (ie changing this softupd?) Thanks |

no, PR1.1 or later kernels require also more recent firmware binaries. sorry. overclocking is much more dangerous than upgrading the firmware... |
Re: Compiling custom kernels for P1.1 (with fiasco-gen)
Thank you for the help!
I understand your message about upgrading!, by the way my n900 was rock solid since I've got it (end november) and I did not want to face all the probs that a lot seems to have encountered after firm upgrade... In other hand, I've been running Letho's kernel (950/500) since it was out 3 days ago and encountered zero problems with it; I just wanted to take the advantages of your modified one! Anyway, thanks so much |
