It's so cute. :D

N900 is now a tool for my wife to play Sudoku and Solitaire.

Hey,

When you say you miss the pure multitasking, what exactly does not work on the galaxy s which did on N900? Besides seeing the thumbnails of the running apps if you go into dashboard view.

In other words, do apps keep functioning in android 2.1 while they are minimized in favor of another app?
If so, then the only improvement on the N900 style is the fact that you can actually watch the apps output for simultaneous apps?

Without hacking or third party apps, the major drawbacks of android multitasking vs maemo multitasking are:

By default android lists only the last 6 applications you used

there is no easy way to close an app that is running in the background

android closes apps for you whether you want them to or not

different apps close in different ways(some have a button, some just when you use back key all the way out, etc)

****YES I REALIZE you can solve most of these problems by searching android forums and the android market, taking the time to compare the various solutions to each, installing and sometimes paying for the app that 'fixes' these, and then learn how to use the app******

1st, thanks for the info.
Some questions :
1. What do you mean android closes them for you whether you want them to or not? does that happen only if you have more then 6? or when exactly?
2. On my n900, I never open more then 6 apps at once, and sometimes to close and app I have to click the X button for that app 4 times cause the screen is not accurate enough.
3. I understand what you mean about searching the forums and all, it doesn't bother me, after all N900 makes me check the forum daily...

there is no exactly, but it does have to do with available resources i believe, so if you open up some heavy app like a big 3d game or something, some of your other stuff is gonna get closed

The screen is plenty accurate, your finger just isn't :) The X works fine if using stylus. yay resistive. Everyone's use case is different, I often have more than 6 apps open, and yes I use a stylus.

Cool, i was just making the point that it is not something that is included when you start using the device. Imagine if you had to pay some developer for an app in maemo to put little X'es on the windows so you could close them

No no, sometimes I just like to break the seriousness by fooling around a bit, I hope you don't mind (:

I've been searching the web today for hours for information about the Captivate, as it is not sold here (Israel) I am trying to figure out exactly which model I need (europe / usa) etc etc - and the more I inspect this phone the more I like it.
Only things I really feel i'll be missing from my N900 are the dual led which I use very often as torch / light for night video with lfocus, and also skype video, I don't really need too much multi tasking, 3 or 4 light apps open at one time is enough for me. I just want the option to minimize the browser / player while GPSing or Texting.

N900 multitasking is an overkill for my needs at least.

MeeGo will most definitely have "full" "pure" multitasking? Android's version seems painful to have to adjust to. :( Will Gingerbread AKA 3.0 have any major changes with the structure of multitasking?
