Re: Dialcentral 1.0

For fixing the issue with on screen keyboards, what do people think of doing the SMS dialog more fremantle style. Instead of the scroll bar being only for the conversation history, make it for the entire dialog., I would then make the dialog full screen and it should auto-adjust to the right size with OSKs.

Hey, what's the status on that one ring idea that you were conceptualizing awhile back?

Are you still excited about taking on a new project?

I need to get to the point that I stop spending so much time on Dialcentral first so I have time to work on it :)

Autoadjusting sounds like new problems are going to occur and complicate things even more.

It's up to you though. One favor request, I know you have a keyboard but could you use DC for awhile without using it?

Thanks!

What I mean by auto-adjust is on Diablo, it would have a scrollbar accessible while OSK is up that would allow you to scroll the entire history so you can better use it with the OSK

EDIT: As for the auto-correction when you have a hardware keyboard on Diablo, I'm not sure whats the best way to handle it

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Okay. Actually I like the idea. :)

Did you want to exchange numbers both as friends and for also testing DC?

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

The main concern I see with the UI change (not in extras-devel yet) is that on the n900 it will auto-scroll to just above the character count / phone selector. I'm guessing it might be alright for those to be hidden by default.

epage 2009-10-14 02:59

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

I just pushed 1.0.7-10 to extras-devel. Hopefully this is the final release before pushing to extas.

"Dial" is disabled while there is stuff entered in the reply box for SMS

The scrollbars that used to be around the SMS history is now around the history and the reply, making more room available for viewing the history and fixing inconsistent issues with starting scrolled to the bottom. The only oddity is that on fremantle, it doesn't scroll to the bottom but to the bottom of the SMS reply box which makes less discoverable the ability to change numbers or see how many characters are entered.

Sounds like a nice adjustment, would love to try it out on N810.

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Oh yeah!

1.0.7-10 is shaping up quite nicely, it's amazing how just a few little tweaks makes such a big difference. :)

Hey, for those who want to add a new contact or edit one but can't view them correctly on the website, I found a little trick...

At 100% zoom over at Google Voice, for some reason all of your contact names are stacked on top of eachother making them impossible to read.

However, if you crank up the zoom feature to 160%, they are easily readable.

Thanks epage for this latest release!

For those testing 1.0.7-10, are there any issues that I've missed in previous posts or that have recently arisen that should prevent 1.0.7-10 from being promoted to extras?

Also, as is recommended, I'm switching over to using b.m.o. So please post bugs there.

I'll eventually move the garage bugs and feature requests over.

still can't log on. Please post a working link to the script that will capture what GV is sending.

EDIT: The link you gave me before, to a post in this thread, is circular. The link in the post does not link to a script, but to the same post.

Hey epage.

I sent you several text messages last night.

Did you receive them?

Addison 2009-10-14 23:31

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Well, if you didn't receive my text messages there is an issue with typing long sentences as text in DC.

When you get to a certain point a scroll bar appears and typed text goes off the screen.

Very difficult to manage, especially when using hildon keyboard.

Is there any way to bypass the login prompt by copying a cookie from the browser's folder to dialcentral's folder? Or something? I really would like to have this working again...

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

FWIW, I saw the update earlier this evening for 1.0.7-10 and went ahead with the install. I just now tried to run the app and it had my credentials cached, clicked login, and it appeared I got logged in, which I haven't been able to do for a few versions. I probably uninstalled/reinstalled about 4 versions ago and it fixed the issue back then.

Yet trying to dial out, I get the standard Login Failed message. So no joy for me either. Interesting that it pulled down my number, which it hadn't been able to do but once in the past flurry of updates. Of course, contact list doesn't populate.

If I find the capture script I'll gather the goods and forward them on, just to help ensure it's all the same problem.

I just uploaded 1.0.7-11 which the only difference is I integrated the downloading of debug info

Code:

/usr/lib/dialcentral/gv_backend.py USERNAME PASSWORD
Everything will be written to the current working directory.

If you two could grab this info and send it onto me, I can try and figure out why the logins are failing.

Qole, sorry I'm not sure what was up with that link.

I'm unsure if this is related to Qole's issue or not. Could you send along the log? Is this behavior reproducible?

Sorry about this.

It's been mentioned before but there were some problems with the display not going full screen. I experienced the same problem.

Anyway, if you're using gmail to have your messages forward here's the place to go for easy viewing since it now displays full screen on the tablet.

Just for clarification, the mentioned before problems with the display not going full screen refers to the iPhone gmail interface?

Ran the gv_backend.py - When I ran it it still gave the 'could not extract authentications token from googlevoice'.

The generated files are attached

Thanks

It may have been some odd coincidence, but I only got DialCentral to finally log in successfully by launching the program from the command line. Since then, it has worked fine.

Would it be possible to have SMS and Vmails separated?
As it is now I get both my sometimes looong vmail transcripts mixed in with my SMS.
Since they are broken up on the google-voice page i was thinking that maybe it could be done in this application as well.

Interesting, it had issues performing the redirect. I'll try and whip of a hack where if grabbing authentication information fails to manually grab the page. I'll still look into what the underlying problem might be though. I''m also concerned that if my hack works, what other pages might have issues

I guess I don't know many long winded people, but then again its just recent that I added collapsing of SMS conversations. What if I abbreviated voicemails to what would approximately be the same number of lines as a collapsed text conversation?

Yeah, I think so.

Before, if you had javascript enabled, it would load up full screen and then suddenly collapse to the iphone's resolution.

Nobody understood why that kept happening. :(

Anyway, it resolved itself about 5 days ago so I thought to post on it.

@epage
I just checked and realized I sent a truckload of messages to you using the wrong phone number. *facepalm*

I'll send them again later tonight.

Biggest concern is texting long messages without pressing return that I mentioned previously a few posts back.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. v11 was not meant to fix the issue but to work more towards a "batteries included" for debugging. That script I had issues sending to you is now integrated. I'm hoping for the gv_backend script to be run and people to upload sample output so I can dig through what Google is giving me so I can work around these issues.

Well, that explains it. I was actually thinking of sending you a bunch anyways for creating new screenshots.

Could you post a screenshot of that issue so I can see what its like for you?

Also I've tried to clean things up.

I've updated the massively unused website

I also updated the troubleshooting steps on my first post along with posting some Fremantle screenshots

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

OK this is extremely weird!

Dialcentral still fails to log in, with an error in the log about failing to get an authentication token, but the gv_backend thing works! It clearly logs in successfully! So why does dc fail?

Addison 2009-10-16 05:29

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

DC never liked you! :D

I'm thinking of trying RTCOMM tonight. Can anyone point me to the post/website on how to use Google Voice with it?

When searching the forums, it squirted out 275 threads to read and I can't seem to find an easy one to read.

Thanks!

@epage
Sent you a PM of a screenshot on my end since the pic has your phone number on it.... Unless you don't mind me sharing it with all ofthe freaks here. :)

Addison 2009-10-16 05:49

Re: Dialcentral 1.0

Hey qole.

Quick thought. Maybe it's because you're in Canada and Google Voice is mixing up their standards for service.

I'd be willing to give you my account and password to test but I would also need yours to test on my end as well.

Not sure about your comfort level on this but at least you might have an answer by tonight.

Are you running Maemo 5?
