Re: New N900 firmware 3.2010.02-8 released today (16 Feb)

for those wondering about performance improvements, as I mentioned in the thread for the 1.1 update, as often as not I find everything feels faster everytime I reboot. regardless of update. It just seems that after 4/5 days of heavy usage, things slow a little. and a full reboot makes things snappy again.
I doubt 1.1.1 has done any significant performance work.
(though would love to be found wrong)

here in the UK..still waiting ;-)

Disconnect and restart the device. It worked for me... It wasn't bricked! If it doesn't start, flash with flasher 3.5

I beg to differ. I reboot fairly often (say around once per day) and this is something else. Everything feels snappier, me likes

The rootfs is on a separate (and i think) faster chip then the rest. This enables the N900 to be quick :) (Again i think).

Most applications are optified, meaning very little goes in there, and most of it gets stored on the rest of the device.

If you use testing/dev apps, you may have un optified apps. thats just life unfortunatley :(

I've disabeled those to free some rootfs but still can't come up to 43. I just think that this is a huge letdown by Maemo for not controlling this better.

No, not an easy way, but it is possible, and software could certainly be written to sort this out with the existing infrastructure. Long story short: For Maemo, go to the Packages file for the repository of interest. For example, the "/extras-devel Fremantle free" Packages file for the n900 can be found at:

WARNING: These files can be large. Using wget might be better that viewing them in your browser.

I'm having some problems with hildon freezing every now and then, and then just suddently crashes, I reboot and find that all desktop widgets/contacts etc. is gone. I add them again and same thing happens over again..

Anybody else experienced this or something similar? :/

A few people mentioned battery is worse. Perhaps they were playing with the device more after update. Any common consensus on this?

Using Nokia Updater will wipe all applications and likely their settings, make sure you backup your installed appliation list.

I tried to do OTA (USA), but it said this firmware version I must use Nokia Updater on PC and I used that. I just finished re-install all applications but
I lost all my 3 STARS score in Angry Brids

Re: New N900 firmware 3.2010.02-8 released today (16 Feb)

This is ridiculous. I've disabled all catalogs but for Nokia Applications and Nokia System Software Updates, uninstalled 14 apps, rebooted several times, run apt-get clean several times, gone from 43.5Mb in rootfs to 54.5Mb and I'm still getting this message:

"To update your device to this version of the operating system you must use the Nokia software update application on your PC. Connect the device to your PC via a USB cable and launch the application."

There's been no message about not having enough space.

I guess it's time to trash more apps. Thing is, some of them were a b*tch to install and get working properly (Debian w/Cups, etc.) for me (noob). This is my main reason for not wanting to go the NSU route.

Any advice appreciated. I'm tired of spending so much time on this. I know the risks about installing from the Extras catalog, blah, blah. Frustrated.

Re: New N900 firmware 3.2010.02-8 released today (16 Feb)

Just updated with NSU and everything went fine but all my applications are gone. This is something expected though. The phone feels faster. Letīs see how it behaves after a couple of hours.

Could anyone direct me on how to enable flash on the browser please. When I go to a site with flash I get this message saying JavaScript is disabled or Flash not installed.

Thank you.

Oh and just on a slight side note concerning freeing up space on the device. Is it ok to uninstall the "installer" apps once they have been used and the actual apps are up and running or should we keep them on there?

i mentioned it before too. Battery life has improved, based purely on observation and comparing with how much charge i was getting earlier. does the battery has wifi drain bug still? no idea, it will be checked later tonight at idle. I will have an answer tomorrow morning.

You can uninstall those installers.
and you will see those installers in the catalog after you uninstalled them
there is no point to use those installers as you can install the apps of those installers try to install directly

It is definetly faster overall, but battery life? I don`t know....it seems a little worse than before....I haven`t used it more than before so there might be something here.....

The update is really annoying, I tried to restore my backup which I made before cause it deleted all applications and stuff. Now it says "process failed" when I want to restore something oO

Really think twice if you want to install it. I guess I have to reset the phone now :/

This Maemo Update seems to be a big fail when I see all this "my phone isn't working anymore afterwards" threads. I personally had more luck but lost all my applications and files after the update!

Seriously, Maemo is Linux based and at least on my PC Linux updates work perfectly without making so much trouble.

Nokia updater doesn't reconize my n900... it is plugged and the program still searching. Maemo Linux sucks connecting to nokia PC suite even... some options won't work...

Download the new PC Suite and make sure you are updating to the latest version.

I am using 7.1.30.9 and my N900 is recognized and I am able to do tethering with it without any hassle

I wish it supports synchronization of Photos and Videos though, which it doesn't, and I'm using 7.1.40.1
