ok much better :) nice work... maybe you find a possibility...

Re: [Announce] cuteTube - A feature-rich YouTube client

My suggestions:
-give the opportunity application start with or without entering the account and create a buttons of sign in and sign out...
-by the time of sign in... make a graphical way showing that it's loading without "exit the program"...
(personally i dont like when it's exit the application cause it takes long to sing in and then it reenter the app...)
-Add error massage when there isnt internet connection.
-Add volume button AND remove the default yellow bar OR just remove the yellow bar...

These are my Friendly suggestions.... Thanks for the hard work!

Favourites' list and playlists work for me now....
just the (+) buttons, for load the next videos keep some videos from the first search... maybe this is the way you want... or you can change this.

There's no point in improving the UI, only to have to start again.

You don't have to use the on-screen controls. You can control the video player using the keyboard (details in the manual: About --> Manual ;) ).

I have also thought about the possibility of a widget, and I want to do it. I need to fix the remaining bugs in the main application first.

In the meantime, I have uploaded a new build to extras-devel. Changelog:
  • Improved loading of video results. Should be faster.
  • Some tweaks to the fetching of video feeds.
  • Improved error handling.

I'm hoping that I have resolved the issue with favourites not loading, but I can't be certain. I experienced the issue myself last night, and it turned out to be due to one of my favourited videos being restricted by YouTube. So, if anyone still has that problem, you might want to check and make sure that you can still view the videos that are in your favourites.

Just updated and a massive improvment :) all my fav's now load up, much quicker too! Great work my good man! Can i ask when we be able to play on our mobile internet instead of wifi? Your earlier versions did it just fine and i kinda miss it. Thanks again

I've been a silent admirer of this app and it meets almost all my needs. I guess it all depends on how you use Youtube and what you want to get out of it. My suggestions (request?) is to be able to view "Most viewed" videos by category. I am a big gamer so I like to filter videos by category rather than All videos.

That is all.
Thanks for your work so far.

I can add options in the settings dialog for viewing both the 'Most viewed' and 'Most recent' feeds by category. I can also add the option to set your preferred locale. I will do this for the next release.

There's a new youtube uploader in the ovi store, works a treat too, no more pixelpipe crap, just a straight link via share in media player. New cutetube update works a treat too :) Apart from when i load my fav's the thumbnails are mixed up? Don't really matter tho

Fantastic application.
There is one huge show stopper though: where on earth can I find the download queue!?
It's absolutely unclear to me and I had to enable the direct download option on the Settings if I was ever to see a video pop up downloaded on my device.
It's an absolutely mystery to me how such a good app with a clear interface can have such a show stopper in it by not giving the user a clear idea where to access the download queue.
Other then that the application is absolutey spot on and this close to replacing the native YouTube website!

It has been explained where the que is somewhere in this thread, once you start a download the que is only available on certain screens.. any search results... my channel n maybe others but not the home screen. Just tap the top of the screen (drop down bit) and they'll be an extra tab stating downloads plus how many you have. Click that my friend! Its hardly a show stopper? This app has come a long way in little time with big improvements so small things like this are sure to be either solved or cleaned up over coming updates i'm sure. Make sure you have the latest version from extras devel too as its the best one so far :)

This app is just great.

No only useful, but also easy to use, well designed and clean interface.

Is this app the work of just one person? Awesome.

Is there a "donate" button somewhere? I mean it. Instead of buying one more beer next weekend, I'd be glad to donate $3-$5 to this app, and, if at least 100 people do the same (176 people "thanked" this thread) the developer can buy a new gadget or anything else for Christmas.

Thanks again for this excellent app.

Thanks for your kind words. :)

You can donate from within the application by going to the 'About' window and choosing the 'Donate' option from the menu. This will open the PayPal webpage inside the application (using QWebView). The browsing experience is not that great, though.

There is also a link to the same PayPal page in my sig.

Any donations are gratefully received, but I don't expect people to part with their hard-earned cash. My main hope is that I can use my projects as a platform for getting into professional software development at some point. At the moment I'm just enjoying learning new things. :)

Recommend improvements on:
the player and the way it posts videos on facebook for example... instead of link post it should post the video frame itself :D

the search needs improvements too cuz sometimes I just want search on video titles. cheers!

Cutetube is great!!! love it!

I don't think there's any reason why it shouldn't work with 3g atm. Is it just video playback that isn't working? If so, it might be a buffering issue. Maybe the video player is giving up before buffering is completed.

The video player is going to be reworked now, anyway. It's next on my list of improvements.

Re: [Announce] cuteTube - A feature-rich YouTube client

Marxian, the only issues I still see are:

1) the downloads still are not seen from the main screen. I did a test (I changed it do not downloading automatically), where I select a few from multi select then look on the main screen and I don't see a download button. then I close the app and reopen and then I do in fact see the download button and the waiting downloads on the main screen.

2) Its says that I am signed into my youtube account even if I start up cutetube without an internet connection.

I know you were not able to recreate these situations but they are happening for sure on my n900 (I sure hope it is an n900!).

trivial stuff but as I you mention you are working this for wider release I just wanted you to know the issues I am having. oh btw...I love this app :)

1) I'm still unable to reproduce that issue, but maybe it requires a specific sequence of events that I haven't tried. I recorded a video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8SEH-z7v4E

2) The error is being logged, but is not 'transmitted' to the method that raises the information banner. I've fixed this for the next release.

Re: [Announce] cuteTube - A feature-rich YouTube client

Hmmm.

I probably asked for auto-loading for results and you added "more" button. Currently it seems that button might be better. To me auto-loading seems to be sometimes little broken. I manage to get end of list and it doesnīt load more result but if I go up it starts to load.

Problem might be that loading really hits the responsiveness and while you are sweeping and list is not moving it still takes those sweeps and result is fast jump to last item after it has manged to load items. Probably button is better.

And to nitpick on something :) Buttons on My channel and on main screen seem to on different positions.

Amazing work on so little time! Thanks for this app.

i think the only drawback this app have is the player, other than that, things are close to perfect :) .

That is down to the algorithm that is used to determine when results should be added. I can fix this easily enough. :)

I'll take a look at that. There are quite a lot of menu buttons to keep track of, so I'm not surprised that I've missed a few details.

is it possible to include the minutes when playing the video when not in full screen?

why the video download quality got 720p option while video playback quality dont have this? is there anyway to include 360p or 480p?

thanks for the app really really like it :D

Yeh just video playback, everything else loads up just fine. It worked a few updates ago, last 3 or so updates no joy. My 3g is often faster than my wifi so its not a speed issue, must be the player itself as it doesn't even try. I believe a few other testers are having the same problem. But if your already workin on it i'll let you know if its fixed on the next update! Good work!

That's just it. I've been doing all that already and still I couldn't find it.
I even restarted the app a few times. Rebooted. Nothing.

However, I updated the app this morning and suddenly there it was from the drop down menu! Instantly!
It still even had the video in said queue from a few days back.
Maybe the update fixed something, maybe it was a glitch.
But at least it seems to work now. Fantastic!

Re: [Announce] cuteTube - A feature-rich YouTube client

Life is too short to read through this massive thread, so this is probably mentioned many times already:

Scrolling through search results slows down to a crawl as time goes on.

Pressing same button (e.g. search, play) many times opens the same window many times. The button should be pressable just once, really.

After you use the app for a while, it slows down enough to be unusable and needs to be restarted.

Apart from bugs, app looks good and does what I need from youtube app, so keep up the good work.

Be specific.
-Slows down because you have loaded many pages?
-->(It should probably remove/clean stuff from up. Pages could be one way of dealing this)
-Slows down just over time if search result window is open and nothing is done?
-Slows down while app fetches data?
-Something else?

Slows down while fetching data.

Repro:

- start a video download in background

- do a search (e.g. for "britney", sort by relevance)

- in search resuls, scroll down repeatedly. eventually, you will see unresponsive behavior and slowdown (after a few batches have been fetched).

slender 2010-12-22 11:11

Re: [Announce] cuteTube - A feature-rich YouTube client

Iīm starting to think that more button is better for overall user experience. Auto-loading hits really badly on responsiveness, even-thought it might be bit faster but it gives some headaches to end users while it stutters. More button gives more time to app and user also gives more time to app because he/she just pressed button so itīs IMO generally expected that app is going to load now something.

Of course it will be slower if you are downloading and browsing at the same time. This would also be the case with a web browser. It's the same issue.

The list view can get a bit sluggish when a large number of results have been loaded. I think the bottom line is that the Qt widgets were not designed to be used for kinetically scrolling through hundreds of items. OTOH, it could be a limitation of the hardware/OS. Either way, I don't see any magic bullet.
