Yes, it will be either opening of the whole folder when you select a file from a file browser, a browser within the player, or even both. I can't say when it's going to be ready, but chances are that with the next significant update.

I think you need 5 posts in the forums to unlock PMs (or was it 10?).

By the way, Dutch and updated French just landed in the repository.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Feature Request: Could you perhaps add an option to display the preference for video's title meta tag:
* If Video meta tag/title exists use it; else default to filename

I download many TED videocasts using gPodder, and the raw filenames aren't that useful:

"GrahamHill_2011U" whereas stock media player shows
"TED: Graham Hill (2011 University)" which is a much more useful title

Also I have the same video quality issue already reported with the QML video component. How does the stock player render? With generic Meego libraries perhaps? Can you switch to use these instead of QML ones or can you not interchange QML components with non-QML?

Great work overall! Thanks.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Works great, except the interaction with gpodder. The resuming
time should be given back to gpodder, as gpodder calls the
player with the starting time.

I tried with "CharlieTodd_2011X.mp4" and it shows up as "TED: Charlie Todd (2011 TEDx)", so I'm not sure why it doesn't work for you.

Huh? I thought QML-anything is used only for Car and Entertainment View.

Cannot reproduce that, but I have CSSU installed.

I'm don't know what's with those "repeated songs", but when I read "reset", running "tracker-processes -r" from the terminal comes to mind.

It's fixed and should appear in the repository within a few minutes. Updated Swedish and German are there too.

I'm not sure what you mean by "integrate" (a button to open the equalizer settings?). I don't have any plans regarding mafw-gst-eq-renderer at the moment.

MAFW doesn't support it and simulating it would be ugly and possibly buggy. There is a chance, but I don't feel like it's a good time to do it.

That is a "feature", that I think should be disabled by default.

Press in the Menu Bar and open Settings screen. You'll see an option where you can choose what to do when exiting the player, choose "stop playing" and it's done.

But I've found sometimes when listening to music, the track will play but It will keep the title and album art of a previous song :(

Also when watching a movie on the player "the touch" next and previous buttons do not work.

brilliant job with OMP, this should replace stock media player in next cssu update. i couldnt find any problems (so far). what is lazy slider option? which lyrics backend is used? any easier instructions for opening OMP when media player widget is pressed?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I would argue that due to feedback on camera-ui replacement's initial inclusion, this should not replace stock just yet.

As there are a lot of people not yet using this, I would like to see it installed along side stock for testing in the next cssu update. You could force it to be default player but add a temporary menu to associate mime types or restore to stock. Once the bug reports start coming in for the next update, check feedback. If all is ok, remove stock in the following release. This way if the user encounters a serious problem, they have an easy solution.

On a side note, if it is included will we have to wait for each new cssu release to receive updates to omp, or could it be updated mid cycle.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

@wow23

You must create a "openmediaplayer.ru.qm" file with QT Linguist (Release as...) and to test it on the N900 just copy the file to "/opt/openmediaplayer/lang".

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I found a bug, compared with stock media player. If you start playing music and begin chatting everytime there's a new message the song stops for a second and after the chat sound (new message) has played it resumes. In the stock player the sound of chat doesn't interrupt the music. This is quite annoying and in the end I have to stop chatting or playing music. Other from that this player is awesome. Thanks for the effort.

Sorry for being old'good'rascal, but any chances of updating the first post? It is extremely challenging to follow current state of Open Media Player (especially vs. stock Media Player), for ones - like me - that are not following every and single post in this thread. Or, maybe a Wiki page?

Thanks in advance.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I think Wiki is a good idea, so a list of features is available in one place. Unfortunately, I'm overloaded with work at the moment and don't have much time for anything else than posting here from time to time and relax a little by fiddling with the source. ;) Anyone wants to start a page? I'll probably join later.

I had a situation with the player not closing completely and continuous 100% CPU usage, but that happened to me only once and I cannot reproduce anything like that.

Stopping the playback will be the default behavior, starting with the next update.

When sliders aren't lazy, song/movie progress is adjusted immediately to the slider position. With the lazy option, playback position is changed after releasing the slider. The latter is smoother, but some people prefer immediate preview.

Regarding lyrics backend.
I´ve seen this site as a lyrics-app in both android and iphone:
http://lyrics.wikia.com/Special:Search
Seems pretty decent.
Would it be possible to change the backend manually?
I don´t know how that stuff really works in the background though.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I've created wiki page:

http://wiki.maemo.org/Open_Media_Player

It's far from being perfect, I think I'm not best person to fill lacking info now, as I'm (yet) not user of OMP :) I'm sure gidzzz will fill info about features - everyone else, please correct possible mistakes, provide links from used terms (that already got wiki articles) etc.

If someone is too lazy... ekhm, occupied to edit her/him-self, You can always send me or gidzzz info about mistakes in PM.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Kind of shameless bump - I edited Open Media Player wiki article in a way, that everything it needs now - IMO - is gidzzz submitting necessary information in <insert here> fields. Other info seems to be completed (internal wiki links, etc).

Of course, if anyone think there is something else that should be added there, please edit it. It is really easy and straightforward process, even for most iApple dumbies, not to mention proud N900 users ;)

I don´t know how that stuff really works in the background though.

I even used to contribute to Lyric Wiki, but I think it has too many missing entries due to some legal issues. For some songs (too many, in my experience) you get only a few lines of text and a takedown notice.
It's impossible to simply change the provider, the support for a service has to be implemented first.

Can you give some example song artists/titles? Maybe you have encountered a bug in OMP? I know it doesn't work in certain cases.

The only things that OMP installs are:
  • "/opt/openmediaplayer/*" with translations and QML files for its prvate use
  • "/usr/bin/openmediaplayer" just the executable, nothing unusual here
  • "/usr/share/doc/openmediaplayer/*" some info about the application
  • "/usr/share/applications/hildon/openmediaplayer.desktop" menu entry
  • "/usr/share/icons/hicolor/64x64/apps/openmediaplayer.png" the icon
I don't know how could that break something. Maybe updates for some other stuff got pulled from extras-devel as dependencies?

Estel 2011-11-14 23:55

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

After quite long absence from this thread (i must admit that, I was a little discouraged by lack of development in pre-gidzzz times), I've reverted 20-30 pages back, and re-read it - I wanted to check, how that awesome whirlwind of development started.

After doing so, I must write that - *huge* thank You gidzzz, for all that awesome work. Yea, I know there is a "Thank" button, but it is not sufficient in this case. It is great to see, how a wish to correct small annoying thing, transformed into (practically) maintaining and developing package. There are some people like that here - freemangordon, Nicolai, You (just to name few, from top of my head - listing all would be quite wrong, in case I forget someone, and would create holy wall of text ;) ), who create a true flaming storm of code-work - proving again that, if one want, no project is "too big".

So, thanks again, and I hope that developing this will still give You much joy ;) Of course, I instantly switched from stock media player to OMP. Really, great work!

---

By the way, I think I may found a little bug. While watching video, it's name isn't updated in media player widget (at least, the Open one from Nicolai, but both should work same way here) - it just show name of last music file, that was played. Still, pausing and resuming from widget does work, but pressing forward/backward just result in OMP returning to menu (thus, stopping video playback).

After that, widget is "stuck" - i.e. pressing play, forward or backward, doesn't result in any action. After opening something manually in OMP, control cia widget is re-gained (so it doesn't crash).

With stock media player, name of video file is "forwarded" to media player widget, and one can switch between videos using forward/backward (just like with music files).

Of course, it isn't "blocker" bug, but would be great if it can be fixed without much hassle.

/Estel

// Edit

Also, stock media player did "pause" to video once minimized, but that was freakin' irritating, so in this case, I'm glad that OMP doesn't mimic such behavior ;)

OMP doesn't make use of video playlists yet and the widget probably displays current item from the current playlist, which is an audio playlist in this case. It also causes pressing forward to not work as expected.

It's not silly, searching without sliding the keyboard out might be convenient.

You can download the whole source code and update the translation with a tool called lupdate, but that's what I do each time I add a translation, so you can also send me the file and wait for it to appear in http://gitorious.org/~gidzzz/qt-medi...es/master/lang, then select it and download "Raw blob data" for further editing. Oh, and I have already added ano/ne.

You can add/edit lyrics from the context menu. It's rather hard to find a source which has all the lyrics.
