Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Can you try doing:
Code:
flasher -f -F rootfs.bin -F emmc.bin --no-preserve -R |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9

will be right back with the result. |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Indeed rootfs.bin == mainFirmwareFile.bin :)

Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Hmm that error maybe due to corrupted .bin files or broken flash memory. Have you tried redownloading the .bin files? Also flashing another 009 pr_legacy variant?

Should I flash this N9?
I am in Australia and purchased a new N9 from an internet vendor in Hong Kong which it seems is a Middle East model as the version is PR1.3(40.2012.21-3_PR_006).
I didn't think much of this at the time and proceeded to use the phone over wifi while I waited for my micro SIM to arrive. Many days later the SIM arrived but when inserted in the phone does not register. I am able to use the exact same SIM in my N900 with an adapter with no issues but I am guessing the N9 is blocking it or my service provider is blocking the phone because it is a Middle East version. Can anyone confirm if this would likely be the case? If so is it ok for me to flash the phone to an Australian variant or will that brick it? I cannot really send it back because I have been using it for two weeks and expect I would be waisting my time debating the issue with the internet vendor in HK. Cheers for any help in advance. |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Hi oldmate,
Welcome to the forums :) Your phone may have been sim-locked to another carrier that's causing the issue but its very rare to come across such cases in MEA variants but more in Latin American sets. What I would suggest is to do a clean rootfs+emmc flash to the same 006 Legacy. You could chose a NDT variant which would mean a general 006 Legacy varaint. When you first got the phone its always advisable to do a clean full flash so might as well do it now. Try things out then ;) |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Thanks, according to the SIM tray the variant is 059J228 which means RM-696 NDT MEA1 MEA2 Black 64GB according to NaviFirm Plus. Any suggestions as to what variant would be best to try?
Thanks |

Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Wouldn't that then suggest the SIM should not be locked?
The reason I ask is that there is no branding at all evident on the device. I will flash it as suggested but that will be a job for another day and there may be a few questions along the way if that is ok? |

Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
My N9 died and is not booting up (I accidentally deinstalled facebook and mp-harmattan-001-pr) anymore :o
EDIT: OK my bootloader is not demaged... but is it possible to boot it up without loosing your Apps? |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Ok so I flashed the phone both main and emmc with variant 059J228 RM-696 NDT MEA1 MEA2 Black 64GB with no issues.
Unfortunatly it made no difference and the SIM card is still not detected. So what next should I flash the phone with an Australian 005 variant? Cheers, |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
You won't be able to flash the 005 variant as downgrading is disallowed...
I'm suspecting maybe a hardware failure is at play here or just the sim being the one at fault (unlikely as you have it working on another device)? Maybe somebody else could advice on how to diagnose for suspected hw failure in this case... |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
I will try the same SIM in my brothers Lumia 800 and his SIM in the N9. The SIM is actually a Nano SIM in a Micro SIM adaptor, maybe inside it is not aligning correctly, but I don't think so.
Thanks, |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Damn, I have some problems too with flashing...
here is the output, I tried everything and couldn't solve it. Hope anybody can help me with this: Code:
C:\Program Files\Nokia\Flasher>flasher.exe -f -F DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3_PR EDIT: Somehow, after trying to boot it, and then reflashing it again, it did work.... strange... Hope this info can help other users too :) |

You need the old firmware (probably 003/China variant - look at the code printed on the SIM tray) and flash with the Code:
--flash-only=cmt |

Looking for N9 059J202 firmware file - navifirm fails
Hi all,
this is my first post, so apologies if this has been answered before but I searched the forum for two hours and could not find an answer. I recently bought a used N9 (my third!) and while my others are of the 001 variant this is a 009 variant for which I didn't have the firmware files on backup. The previous owner has messed up with various things and it is necessary for me to restore it to "clean" condition. I managed to download the emmc file but each time I try to download the rootfs .bin file from navifirm+ or from the following link: http://nds2.fds-fire.nokia.com/p/d/f...M1-958_ARM.bin it fails at the 221MB mark. I believe there has been an attempt by the community to preserve the N9 firmwares independently from Nokia. Does anyone have the file I am looking for or can point me in the right direction? thanks in advance! |

This too stops downloading after the first 221MB as it is essentially from the same source the link I provided points to. At first I thought it is an internet connection issue but I tried from both home and work. Does anyone have some other source to try? |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Use wget to download it; i just used the same on my remote box and its at ~440MB without any disruptions...

Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Hey, first time posting here, but here goes.
So I fudged up my n9, and now it seems like the only way to get the phone to boot is to flash it. I have followed the instructions listed up to the point where I have to connect my phone to my PC. And this is where things get complicated. When I plug my phone to the PC, my phone tries to boot. Just to clarify, my phones power is off, but when I connect it to my PC it tries to boot itself. Because of this I am unable to flash, and I have absolutely no idea how I should continue. |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
murhanaama,
Power off your device by holding the power button for 8-10seconds. Plug in your device to your PC only when the command prompt on PC shows the message "Suitable device/phonet not found blabla..." The flash should now execute successfully. Also welcome around :) |

another chinese N9 story
I have read the flashing tutorial. I am wondering if I am wasting my time trying to flash the firmware V 40.2012.21-3_PR_003. I am trying to get a western firmware w/ an english base lang. and the missing apps like Skype...etc I have been using a Phoenix/Nokia flasher and have received many flashing errors like firmware older than installed or "flashing failed in recovery" I prefer the Phoenix due to its simplicity, Is the win flasher able to overcome what appears to be a firmware lock inserted from the newer 1.3 firmware?
Has anyone successfully found a workaround to re-flash a Chinese N9 running 1.3 already to a western firmware. firmwares attempted Singapore, central Europe,Australia, new Zealand,ROW,northern Europe,Ireland. currently running 059J250, sim tray059M7K1 thanks in advance... |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
It would be doable with ubiboot.
I have not tried it but there is nothing really preventing you from restoring a clean backup taken from another phone that has been installed with european PR1.3 |

Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
Hello everyone-
I currently a Cyan Nokia N9 16GB, an unlocked Malaysian variant to be specific. Anyway, I stupidly flashed an incorrect PR 1.3 firmware from 3 in Sweden a few months ago and I've had nothing but problems ever since. Beyond that, I also (stupidly) attempted to change the product code of the phone in order to downgrade the firmware back to the original one. Long story short, I've continually experienced multiple glitches and problems over the past few months. To begin with, the battery life on the phone since I flashed the new firmware has gone to crap, meaning the phone now lasts then half a day if fully charged. I've also had bugs with my contacts not loading automatically at bootup, the Facebook app not working at all, Wazapp not sending messages, and a whole host of other issues. If anyone has any ideas for how to fix these problems I'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance. -Sincerely, bobofosho123 |
Device not working properly
hey guys I'm new to these threads
i fell in love with the moment i saw Meego and really wanted one but as a student i couldn't afford one and was locked on a plan with my Nokia 6700s and finally i got my n9 last march and i absolutely love it recently (yesterday) i got n9 tweaks and of course made a back up before doing anything and today i did a full restoration which requires a reboot and that was the last i saw from my precious N9 this always shows up now when i try to open my phone  https://twitter.com/AussieEgyptian/s...661888/photo/1 i looked at all the other threads and nothing helped i tried to plug it in both a windows 98/xp/7 nothing worked and it just starts reading and then says error installing your device and Nokia software updater can't read it and the link for the flasher doesn't work (just shows an error and i can't by pass that screen please guys help i'm desperate what should i do EDIT: it turned on and just ran out of battery straight away and when i tried to reboot it after plugging it in the charger no luck no luck what shoul i do ? |
Re: [HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9
OK, so what has happened:
When you did some tweaks you modified some "protected" applications or files on the device, so that their checksum changed. Normally I think N9QuickTweak correctly recalculates the checksums so that device works normally (this is done via refhash.pl script) When the device boots and the cecksums are incorrect it goes to "Malf mode" where it refuses to boot and shows this screen. Additionally, you let the device run dry of battery which further complicates things as now there is not enough charge to boot it up. The solution to both problems is to use flasher, fist to charge the device enough for booting, and then boot it to rescue mode to remove the Malf. |

1. You need to charge up your phone enough for it to boot. There are many threads about that, for example http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=87709 2. You need to fix the problem that was there in the first place. For that many solutions exist, but it depends on what you want to do how to proceed. You have backups; that is good because always there is the possibility of breaking something.
