Don't you miss him? Its been almost a month since he's gone AWOL and the only time he posted was to inform about his $100 donation to HiFo and wishing luck; I wonder if that was indeed him or his split personality :D

So Zopo makes Samsung rip-offs? From some of the reviews seems like quality devices might be good.

I'm kind of intrigued by these Chinese mobile companies that we here in West so easily call shitty.
And granted many of them do have that nasty habit of copying Android, Nokia and Apple devices, but i'm still interested to see what they can do with Sailfish.

Specifications usually seem to be up there.

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

A bit off topic, but:

"While the Zopo spokesperson did not elaborate on the phone's specifications, it is expected to get very high end specifications, and is likely to feature ST-Ericsson's latest NovaThor platform (CPU), and probably a quad core version of the platform that was announced recently. Sailfish operating system is based on Meego operating system, which was jointly developed by Nokia, Intel and Linux, and was later abandoned by Nokia in favour of Windows Phone OS. "

Sounds promising...

NovaThor was kind of expected.

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

Yeah but I'm not sure if it's going to be this one....
http://nokiagadgets.com/2013/01/08/s...ntegrated-lte/
STE is supposedly only shipping samples to partners this quarter...
If Zopo's planning to have theirs our before Jolla, then it's probably less impressive silicon.
Which isn't surprising, given that they've generally focused on the cheap (but fairly top-end specs) Android segment.
Even Jolla would be "cutting it fine" to get their ph out by the end of Summer if they're using the L8580.

Then there's the small problem of STM purportedly having financial issues, like possibly quite serious ones.
Then again, I'm not sure exactly how that translates to STE, as STM's supposedly selling their stake in STE.
Whereas Ericsson has not (at least yet) announced any such plans, nor do they intend to buy STM's 50% stake.
Which may mean STE longer-term is merged back into Ericsson, & becomes focused more around modems & not complete SoCs.
If they both manage to kick-on but go their separates ways, I guess that doesn't mean they'll stop supporting STE SoC's.
I just hope it doesn't prevent STE's latest silicon from making it to end devices, otherwise Jolla/Sailfish could be "up **** creek".

jalyst 2013-01-28 17:17

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

These two look to be roughly the same, & seem to be just below the L8580 all up:
http://www.stericsson.com/products/L8540.jsp
http://www.stericsson.com/products/L9540-novathor.jsp
But oddly the L9540 supposedly supports up to QXGA res, whereas the other 2 support only up to WUXGA (not that that's a big deal).

Sure that's right  but i have some doubts about using android apps through the Alien Dalvik engine..

BTW I don't like the icons of the app grid. I would love to see icons which are equal to the icons of Nokia N9, an FM Transmitter would be great and it's a downgrade that Sailfish OS can only run 9 apps at the same time

but mapping can collect data. If they go for Google maps, nokia maps or sygic they will track your every move.

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

Why should Jolla care about data collection? They aren't an advertisement company.

I'm really happy with each carrier announcement, means better chance of survival. This to me is on topic thanks for the news.

I think Jolla will be Asia,India only... If they ever get a chance. Also it depends heavily how much attention they get on MWC where it stands between, Jolla, BB10, possible ubuntu and firefox. Looks tto me firefox getting much attention atm...

Will your phone be available on the US market?
Quote:

Jolla's first focus on product distribution will be in Europe and Asia. US is not planned in the first stage.
There is 2 more months Q1 I am sure Jolla will reveal what they got planned and They did clearly say there will be a phone for Europe!

Waiting is no fun I know, but we must be patient

They've also never said all of EU, it'll probably be a very small handful of EU countries for starters (e.g. Germany/UK + maybe a few Nordic countries).

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

I will set up shop and will sell jolla phones worldwide to TMO.org members. Est price: $830+shipping+$1 profit for me.

Please visit my webstore: http://jollaunofficialstore.com

so if I'm selling 1000 phones I will earn $1000 which is equal to one device for me.

N9 was never released or officially sold in UK but I was still able to buy one.

Depends if you want sim free or contract purchase. Even if they released in china only I don't see how would that stop anyone from buying it?

jalyst 2013-01-29 10:19

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

That's true, & Europeans are lucky in that warranties are required (by law) to be acknowledged...
Even if a phone is bought in a non-launch country or imported from a launch country (so long as the countries involved are part of the EU).

Their first operator they have officially partnered and will 100% carry the Jolla phone is Finnish DNA and they still call Europe their home. Of course we don't know about rest of Europe, but we will know more in this quarter.

For them the only real place they can hope some kind of success in their scale is China. Plus from their Nokia days they seem to have retained some connections to that market, shown by the deals they have done.
Meaning they will certainly focus at China, but still make the phone available somewhere around Europe.

The same that happened with Harmattan SDK, which was still beta in the beginning of 2012.

This is their first OS so I'm sure the whole OS is pretty much ALPHA. So why not the SDK?

I want to know if there will be a full system emulator like the WP7/8 has. Would be cool to play around with the emulated SailfishOS

I doubt that will be included in an alpha. If jolla survive 1 year it might be included. Always better to test on device.
