if it is huge amount of money, should you consult professionals? if you consult those who know what they do, they will say that never buy a first iteration device, wait at least for the first patch. and if you buy it later, you probably will get the device with cheaper price, better software, in case of problems your device isn't the first one in the service so that process probably will go through faster, ..... It is not nokias or any other companys fault that people are stupid. people just tend to blame those for their own stupidity. so yes, IMO sometimes you can call people school girls if they are being totally stupid. it really is a favour for them. padding to back and saying "there there" just courages stupid people to start btching again in the near future. e: I paid 620€ and my device has been in service for 3 weeks now... |

many people screaming and jerking their kneels now for a firmware update are the same people who would be screaming ranting all over the place if nokia released a firmware with little bug fix or even worse with huge regression. I am not a software developer but I do know that the process of fixing bugs and releasing firmware for an OS is not an easy one. lots of quality assurance need to take place, tons of debugging, research into patches and further research to ensure that this patches don't cause regressions. with software its always better to release when its ready rather than use a timeline schedule. We should also remember the season we are in, Developers are human too and need to spend sometimes off with their family, take a break from work. How can I help out, how many of you complaining about Nokia have asked your self this question. Why not head out to http://bugs.maemo.org/ to file bugs or requests enhancement you want added to N900. ( you can also vote for bugs or enhancement you want the developers to fix) The N900 is not perfect by any means but its developement is open and allows for participation so you are free to report an issues you are having with it, send patch ( if you know how to) or help out debugging bugs and giving feed back to the devs. surely that is better, more productive and would ensure an earlier better FW release than ranting about how someone broke your heart. |

Off course you would expect that local mobile shop seller is competent enough to profile you by your needs and find right solution just for you, but at least here in Finland I have quite rarely found sells person on mobile/electronic/it area who can give me answers to my questions. Now days whole area is self service and google yourself. Why not trust everything that product maker says? Because its know fact that they promise more than they can keep? That is just fact because people think and expect it. Customers should demand same kind of results that are advertised so sellers would be more careful with advertisements. btw. There has been quite many iterations before N900 :( Quote:
Calling stupid people (by your definition) stupid or school girls doesn't make you any better. Actually you downgrade yourself to same level. Sorry. Quote:

Re: I thought there was a firmware update this month
bah, this thread reminds me of the whine-fest for the delays of the N900. Exactly the same thing, with exactly the same outcome.
From where does this sense of entitlement and lack of patience come from? I really can't understand...and I'm not an old fart preaching how good the old times were, in fact I'm rather young (in my (very) late twenties)... Can't you lot just sit back, relax, and rejoice of what you already have at hand? Furthermore it's supposed to be a holiday season, so it's an additional reason to not get worked up on such silly matters (even though you may have spent a lot of money on the device, but it's very often like that when you are the first in the line!). |

I suppose all this Bull **** passes the time till the new firmware arrives!
If you're not the lead elephant the view is always the same. |
Re: I thought there was a firmware update this month
If you want something done, you need a deadline, not a time frame.
No communication is allso a form of communication, it simply a very bad form of communication. I have lived long enough to be certain that both are facts, and anyone who opposes this are either young, immature or does not live in the real world. On the other hand, a firmware release for a phone is not that big a deal, and it will give us lots of time to dive into the -testing and -devel repositories, if boredom is the problem. |
