Well, might be an option some day, but I have an experience, that if something is for everything, then usually it sucks at everything :D

It sounds like a good idea for some, but it should be a separate application in my opinion.

Will all the respect to your amazing work, personally I find installing one application in my device (which has plenty of personal info) that I don't know all the thing it does (e.g. might easily include a keylogger or other data collection mechanism) less safe than exposing the code to the scrutiny of hackers.

I feel very bad that I cannot help you by testing you nice application.
Hope I can continue later in the future. That is, I hope you reach soon the point you can release the code.

Thank you again for your time.

If I would like to do just that, I would create a "fart" kind of application, I would upload it straight to the extras-devel, I would not ask anyone's opinions, I would not have my name shown in the garage projects, I would not spend 18 hours a day coding stuff and discussing with you all how to make it better.

Beside, on other platforms you don't have open source stuff, every possible app may have a keylogger.

I promise though, to release the code, when it is SAFE and I won't change my decision until then.

Btw. One of the users has found out a bug in the first version of the software. Setting all the passwords to the same text, would make it unusable in one way.

I have spent few hours to figure out how to fix the configuration he has specified in settings... finally I asked for his IMEI number and I have build a separate package that would run only on his device, so he can change the settings and update to newer version without this bug.

Do you really think I would put so much work to create a key logger? And destroy all my reputation I gain by hard work? No way I would ever do it.

Sorry, I got maybe to emotional... :)

Don't take it as an attack to you or your application. Just stated my personal opinion.
Wish I had a second device to use it in helping you. The one I have unfortunately I need to use it also for work so it has sensitive data and can't take any risk.

Since you promise to release the code, I promise to donate 30$ when this happens. I like very much what I saw in the few hours that I tried you early version. Hope others can contribute too.

quick question to your code:
Code:

gst-launch v4l2src device=/dev/video0 num-buffers=1 ! dspjpegenc ! filesink location=/home/user/back.jpg
Does that work even if the dsp is active, for example when playing music (the 'dspjpegenc' part)?

rachol, yes, the problem is solved! Thank you.

andrew_85, type in X-Terminal (with root privileges) apt-get install gstreamer-tools, then install deb-package from link in rachol's post.

thanks quasar but how do I install the deb-package?

Save the deb file to your device, and open it with file manager.

The easiest way: open in web-browser on N900 link, that gave rachol. You have to find the latest version, click on the deb-package, web-browser will ask you, if you want to save it, or open. Choose open.

Have you successfully installed gstreamer-tools? I don't remember, but I think the exact name is gstreamer-tools1.0 or something like this.

Sorry for my English.
