Did you manage to get it to work in Maemo(I think you're saying it did, but the wording is a little confusing)? Did you mind sharing your experience and ways you did it?

Basically:
I installed extmou and extkbd
rebooted
enabled bluetooth and went to "Devices"
Pressed "New" button.
I then pressed "reset" button under the Mediaboard
N900 should then show its fond the keyboard
Select the keyboard
press the "Pair" button
then type the number shown (on the N900) on the mediaboard and press enter
you should get a message that the pairing is complete
press the "save" button

Start the "settings" app and the "external keyboard" option should be shown and select it
Press the "Tools" button and press the "reconnect keyboard" button
You should see a message saying "..connected.."
at this point you should be able use the trackpad
If you get any error messages at this point (e.g. "host is down" or app seems to hang) then re-pair the keyboard and try again.

Those are the steps I take that seem to work.

However, in Maemo only the alphabet keys, enter, backapce and cursor keys work. All other keys are totally dead.

When I am using Easy Debian and use an applictions within it, all the keys work as expected - just like a standard keyboard.

I also keep the "External Keyboard" settings app open because sometimes the keyboard loses the connection and I have to use the "Tools" button to reconnect.

you should edit, not execute /etc/bluetooth/main.conf something like

vi /etc/bluetooth/main.conf

vi is unix text editor, you could use whatever editor you like, but not under windows, it will ruin config file

You may install midnight commander or leafpad

Hi Freemangordon, Thanks for your quick reply & advice. I added the vi before the /etc/bluetooth... & it's connected without an error message now :D. I have VIM previously downloaded for the editor. Thanks for your great app!

For anyone else in the same position as me this is what I did.

1 - Install rootsh & vim
2 - Open X Terminal and type: sudo gainroot (click enter)
3 - Next typed: vi /etc/bluetooth/main.conf (click enter)
3 - Where you see: DisablePlugins = network, input, hal, move over the "i" of input & type x several times until input is erased.
4 - Then type :w (click enter) & :q (click enter)
5 - Reboot N900
6 - Go to Setting > Bluetooth & pair keyboard to your phone.
7 - Next go to the External Keyboard > Tools & connect.

Love it!!! Got my ThinkOutside Stowaway hooked up. Next I need to get a mouse.

I would LOVE the ability to set up shortcut keys or combos or something. My keyboard has buttons for email, web, notes... wondering if there was a way to open a specific app from a certain button/key combo?

extkbd is very clever and very complete.

But one thing is missing:
Selection of a custom keyboard file.

I've got a nokia su-8w

Most of the important letters work.

Before extkbd I had a configuration file nokiasu8w that worked with all the letters.

Thanks man, you are absolutely right. I promise to make new version with such functionality

I recently purchased the "i-Connex Keyboard" from "Freedom. "

Does anyone else have it?

Tien 6 keys for multimedia use. Is it very difficult to give support to these keys in "extkbd?

Thanks.

I think that applications should be aware of those keys, what support from extkbd do you need?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] External Keyboard Support - extkbd

Ok guys, extkbd and extmou have been in extras-testing for a while, and following their threads there are no major problems, no data loss, etc. As it seems nowadays we are lacking testers, so:

[shameless advertisement] Will some of you go here

http://maemo.org/packages/package_in.../extkbd/1.0.1/
http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...kbd/1.8-1-2m5/

to vote for extkbd and xkb-data-extkbd

and here

http://maemo.org/packages/package_in.../extmou/1.0.5/
http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...12-1mouse+0m5/

for extmou and xserver-xorg-input-evdev-mouse

and vote so packages to be promoted in maemo extras repository
