Well, this one, for starters.

Having dealt with Nokia's customer service only once before, I prefered to order from Amazon. It's a long story, but they didn't inspire confidence that if I had problems they would respond appropriately.

It has been flagged as a fault offer. They don't have any devices in stock.

I think that you have to ask yourself why you wanted a n900 in the first place and then make a decision.
If you can find a phone that does all you need it to and is in stock then go for it, as there is no point waiting.
If you cant, then wait, as it really isn't that long now (hopefully)

The wait is driving me up the wall, as well as pressing f5 on this thread to see if by some miracle, someone has got one in stock. Im going to wait till the end of Nov, though Im expecting MPD to come through mid november. Any longer than that, then I will get a droid or the new sony experia X3 which is due any time now...
Id rather have a n900, the openess of it appeals, but there is only so long I will wait before switching to another manufacturer or model..
Now that I've decided that I want a new phone, I want one now..

As for online retailers, I really dont think any one retailer is better than another, I had a nightmare with amazon UK which made me swear Id never use them again. They all have to abide by the same rules, so take your pick, and be prepared for several long phonecalls to get things sorted.
I agree with others that the most direct and trustworthy route is probably from Nokia - cut out the middleman...

I think there you have hit the nail firmly on the head. I keep looking at the HTC HD2 and it has that ghastly screen and a lousy camera. I look at the LG phones - great cameras, but nothing exciting as a smartphone. I end up going round in circles. The n97 is the nearest thing, and that brings me back to nokia...

I just rang my local nokia service centre: they tell me they can order an n900 in stock and get it by Monday. For a Price. The price was too much (sigh) even for me to say "It's worth the extra" (£529). The gentleman also recommended waiting, on the grounds that he thinks the software is still being finalised, and I might get a device that was not the final firmware if I ordered now. That struck me as a tad ... odd. He went on to say that all firmware updates should be done by a nokia service centre - which since n900 checks for the daily would be entertaining, to say the least.

Suffice to say, there are n900s out there somewhere. In theory. Maybe people are flogging off the 300 at high prices, reckoning to buy cheap when the price crashes and make a swift buck? (I'm joking!!!!)

I'm confused, and my poor bear brain hurts.

if nokia UK are not getting theres until the 9th then all 3rd party sellers was never going to ship any UK Models until after that.
Why would Nokia tell amazon UK the 2nd knowing UK models are not getting shipped to themselves until the 9th? it sounds like amazon to me just making up the dates

Based on that alone, I would try and wait - a N97 isn't worth it, major software issues and you know in 3 weeks time you would regret it when the n900 is out. The HD2 is WM 6.5 - just dont go there, its the whole reson why Im switching to my first nokia..
Give yourself until the end of the month for the n900 and then make a choice perhaps?

Actually, I think nokia did tell Amazon the 2nd, I think that was the last firm date they gave. Then they probably said "November" or even "end-November" but Amazon doesn't deal in woolly dates, so they left 2nd Nov standing until Nokia finally gave them a firm date of the 30th for delivery (on Thursday evening). That triggered them taking the n900 out of the search loop, and the process (which seems to take 24 hours) of notifying waiting customers.

Edit to ask: what is the time gap going to be between n900 and whatever follows it? In other words, if I have had to wait this long, should I just wait for 'step 5'? Or will I be using something like this by then?

I think that's a question more people are starting to ask themselves: should I just wait till Nokia have the maemo project finished? (by which time it's got a capacative screen and won't suit me...)

Re: N900 shipping delayed

NOKIA UK as always said tentative release date was November so n900 is not even late yet in UK, November the 9th is the first date Nokia UK ever have given me after a month of pestering them.
before that it was just straight forward November with no exact day
wait until the 9th when Nokia UK start shipping then you will see real dates go up on other sites not the load of guestimations we are seeing now

i think.. there was a kangaroo.. who hopped from australia all the way to swahili and then to helsinki. then he took a note from ari jaaksen in his belly pocket and hopped over the water with water walk boots that he picked up in a temple in rome where jesus forget them once after praying. he arrived at all the stores that sell nokia's and told everyone: AHWAAHGG!!

the nokia stores did not know what to make of this. so they waited for an official statement from nokia. saying somewhere in november. the stores themselves didnt gave a .... when the phones arrived so they just wait for em to come.

i think.. yes.. that sounds about right.

If you want your Nokia n900 before all the others you have to order DIRECT through Nokia Nuff Said.

Without any offical notice, Nokia delayed N900 more than two months( 9.27-11.30), which is the bad symbol of a reputable company!

it is really hurting his bussiness

Oddly, this is already being discussed.

You might want to post there rather than a new thread. ;)

The only screens that should ONLY be landscape is the 4 desktop screens and the picture and video viewing playback screen. Everything else should have both portrait and landscape mode....ESPECIALLY the browser and chat screen.

Dear Nokia,

It is evident from the last few post that the loyal N900 customer have now lost their minds. If the situation with the N900 is not remedied soon I fear the damage may be permanent. For the time being the more sane and less affected board members will try to keep them from doing further harm. I implore you Nokia please consider these poor souls as you toil to bring the product to market.

Sincerely

Dr. Shadow12

"Hi

It is not we who set the dates, it is the producer / supplier, so until they ask us to change, the date stays as it stands now."

Ironically on Nokia USA's site, it still says end of October 2009 while it's November 1st now.

So, has anyone had their phone shipped yet?

I think it's pretty clear that's just an oversight on the part of whoever is maintaining that website. Nokia has offically announced that the N900 will ship sometime in November. It's irrelevant what the US website says. Honestly I've seen a lot of errors on Nokia's country specific websites (especially with phone specifications).

Re: N900 shipping delayed

I have just got this from Nokia:

we still dont have the exact release date for the Nokia N900; but since you pre ordered it
you'll be one of the first to receive it after it's released. As soon as the product is in stock, we'll process your order and take your payment.

If the product doesn't become available within 30 days of you ordering (the pre-order expiry date), we'll contact you to:

a.ask if you want to cancel your order, or
b.if feasible, provide you with a substitute product of the same quality or price.

Please don't hesitate to contact us again if you have any further questions.

Yours faithfully

I do not want a substitute product!!!

Re: N900 shipping delayed

I have actually came to this conclusion, that Nokia is intentionally delaying the device, its a marketing system,
you build up hype,
give 300 prototypes to the nerds,
they go around and do the free advertising for Nokia,
then Nokia "pushes back" the release date, so people talk about the phone more and more,
so media puts focus on the device "Nokias much anticipated device delayed",
so more people gets interested and etc, you get the picture...

and if you think delaying effects the reputation of the phone, then you are wrong, it doesn't, its "just a delay".

are you sure zico?

I'm sick and tired of waiting for phones.
I never ever care about phones getting released. Only if its set close to the announcement day.

That is why i opened my eyes. Sept (Announcement)->Okt(Release)!

Now i might get the Acer A1 if it has a decent camera.
Its a lot cheaper too. Lets see which comes first.

What would make for even better marketing is people getting their phones and saying "Wow this thing is awesome".

What doesn't make for good marketing is "I'm sick of waiting for this stupid thing, I think I'll buy [competitor's product] because it's just as good and available now".
