Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

i already have installed mymenu before i do the cssu thing!
now, everthing works fine ( mymenu, cssu, ... )

i can't install anything with fapman in case of this error!
is there a workaround for this problem?

do you think 0.4.4-3 would be better?
my fear is, that when i uninstall mymenu, i can't reinstall mymenu cause tis missing depencies

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

I somehow fixed the similar problems I was having with the command line apt-get program. I started by logging in as root and running apt-get help. Then I used the easiest options listed there and after trying a number of them together with apt-get update, suddenly the problem vanished. I wish I remembered and understood everything I did :) (I also ran the old-fashioned Application Manager; sometimes it seems to fix things better than the Faster version.

Interesting - the CSSU install process must ignore dependencies then.

0.4.4-3 doesn't depend on the mp-fremantle-generic-pr package, so you won't get this error anyway. I don't know what changes there've been between the versions though (presumably 0.4.4-3 was stable enough as it was pushed to the extras-testing repository).

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

when i install the 0.4.4-3, the fapman will always show the update to 0.4.5, right?

It'll show the update but probably won't allow it to be installed. You can pin the old version though, which will prevent the update from showing up. You'll need to add the following lines to /etc/apt/preferences (creating the file if necessary):
Code:

Package: mymenu
Pin: version 0.4.4-3
Pin-Priority: 1001

If you've got any other packages already pinned, leave a blank line before the Package: line.

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

thanks Rob1n, here is the changelog for 0.4.5

* Set depence for Maemo 5 (2.2009.51-1)
* change MyMenu from System to /home/user/.config/menu
* clear bug with moving other folder
* no restart of hildon-desktop needed after update
* faster handling in the menustructur

i think i will stay on 0.4.5, seems like a important update

Then add the '#' to the start of the avahi-daemon line, save the file and close leafpad.

fixed it! thank you very much

Could this replace HAM in opening .deb files and installing apps from Ovi Store?

Yes, I would also like to know if it's possible.

Feature request: add a tab see screenshots of the apps (downloading them from maemo.org/downloads).

oh damn it!
just got a fapman update... now my device won't boot up... grrrrrr...
It shows the loading screen, then show my desktop for 1 sec. and turn off with a beep...
looks like I have to reflash....

pretty uncool!

Any way to fix it without reflash ?
Guess not...

//EDIT:
Puhhh.... Luckily I got backupMenu installed. I restored my rootfs backup I made 3 days ago and it's working again...

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

you sure FAPMAN did that? just updated too. no backupmenu here.

NightShift79 2011-03-13 20:16

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

it happened right after I apt-get upgrade.
there was only fapman which got updated.

don't know exactly if anything else + the update caused this.
I'm just glad I had backupmenu.

casketizer 2011-03-13 20:19

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

Just rebooted. No Problems.
I updated it with itself tho. I don't do apt-get upgrade.

cjp 2011-03-14 05:55

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

I've just applied the latest Fapman patch, and done a reboot and there's no problems here.

I have also noticed that apt-get-upgrade causes a lot of problems for me as well in the past.

Please be more investigative as to why your device has bricked up! Let's not give Fapman a bad name. No part of Fapman affects your device's boot cycle in any way!

Today was a good day for updates; Fapman, CSSU transitioncontrol, Swappolube, fennec 1.1 and xulrunner.

Unfortunately, fennec 1.1 and xulrunner are giving me this error:

Yes - fapman just calls apt, and the standard apt version won't install anything from the user/hidden category (which is most/all of the apps from the Ovi store). There's a patched version of apt around which will handle these, or disable the Ovi store in fapman and use HAM for that instead.

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

Hi folks.
I wanted to change the install, remove etc. Icons inside fapman. So I grabbed the source, changed the icons and compiled it again via madde

Code:

mad qmake
mad make

i'll end up with a bunch of files. Now to use my new icons inside fapman on the device, which file from my compilation should I take to overwrite on the device?

Is file "fapman" (executable) the only one I need to replace ?

You sudoer file is borked. If you didn't poke it manually, you probably have/had a package from extras-devel that broke it.

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

Why is fapman looking for an internet connection when uninstalling a package?

The package I was uninstalling seems to have uninstalled correctly anyway.

x-lette 2011-04-08 14:10

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

Good question. But it's not fapman's behaviour as far as I can see, it's the underlying dpkg who does. It also happens when uninstalling a packet via commandline and I cannot see any reason for that.

The Packages file is corrupt - I've no idea how this happens, but it seems to crop up occasionally. I'd suggest deleting the file (rm /opt/fapman-cache/lists/repository.maemo.org_extras-devel_dists_fremantle_free_binary-armel_Packages) and re-running the update.

I have said this earlier but something fishy is going on with rotate functionality. Sometimes when I start app it starts in portrait and stays in portrait even n900 is in landscape. All other apps are in landscape when I minimize it. Have to do rotate thing again or open keyboard to put it in landscape.

Try rearranging a list "by date". It's not the same but i think will do the trick:P

well yes thats exactly what im doing, but it is impossible to accurately know whats new that way. i mean how do you keep version numbers of 1000 applications in your head. i thought thats what computers were for :->. if you could know the timestamp of the newest package that you looked at today then a few weeks later you have a roundabout idea how much back it makes sense to go.

Another way to do that is go to

www.my-maemo.com/

and click on Software Catalog.

It lists the latest software.

mkay, definitely a worthwhile tip but the only downloads feed i see there is http://my-maemo.com/downloads/maemo_downloads.xml, which is really more of a new software discovery type feed. i'm looking for a nittygritty version upgrade changelog type feed to follow. something like this: http://packages.gentoo.org/feed/

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

i got 1 idea/ problem
every time i want to download a package thats in extra devel or testing etc i have to enable the repositories then update and then when i disable them i have to update it again so it doesnt download from the extra devel still, wasting a fair amount of my dls swapping all the time and the time i waste swapping it

is it possible to have all repositories enabled and be able to select which repository u want to download the app from? as some apps arent in extras and need to have extra testing or extra devel for certain ones
maybe add a button next to the (no operation)(install) buttons (in the screen after selecting the app)that has what repository its going to be downloaded from
eg defaults to (extras) unless the app isnt located in extras then displays extra testing and if is not in that then displays extra devel and upon clicking that button you can choose what repository u want to download from
so if the app is in all 3 its default is extras and gives you an option to download from extra testing or extra devel (with all repositories enabled)

Re: [Announce] Faster Application Manager (Maemo5)

Would be a fine solution but might blow up a bit the application. Try using aptitude which offers all the options you need (and a lot more). Downside is, it's a terminal application, i.e. runs in xterm only. A bit tricky to get used to it but by far the most powerful application for managing packages.
