@youmeego please show a bit respect to the developer, and at least explain why you think it is bad, and how it could be improved!

The developer doesn't have much time to work on it, but you are always free to submit pull requests: https://github.com/tworaz/sailfish-ytplayer

I stumbled upon this sympathetic initiative: Be my eyes.
From their website: "Be My Eyes is an app that connects blind people with volunteer helpers from around the world via live video chat. Download now and start helping blind people see"

It is open source available on Github. But looking at it, it may be some work to port it. Primarily Objective-C for iOS.

That looks really great, although it's a shame they 'gameified' it. Do people help blind people to do a good deed, or to rack up more points than their friends?

I don't see what's wrong with it? I've been using it for the last couple of months and every release makes it better and better. Sure, it misses a few features like upload for example but for searching videos, watching videos and watching your subscriptions it's very, very good. Best app I've ever used in that regard (counting in both desktop and mobile apps) :)

A couple of months ago I would've said "no" 'cause I'm not gonna watch movies and TV shows on a phone (waaaay too small screen - I prefer 8" and up for watching movies and TV shows). But with the Jolla Tablet on the rise (and me being one of the first ones to get it!) they may create a Netflix app now :)

Updated package with xmlrpc-c enabled, works pretty well with tmux to make a systemd unit

use the following to set up your rtorrent.rc file:
Code:

cp /usr/share/doc/rtorrent/rtorrent.rc ~/.rtorrent.rc
Looking at building nginx or some other lightweight scgi server so we can have an rtorrent daemon with a silica front end or using something like rutorrent on the tablet would work pretty well i think.

why do you need a youtube app when you can just use the browser?

Re: What Applications would you like to see on Sailfish Devices?

I finally solved #138 - Google Drive.

I packaged the GDriveFS and its dependencies and you can find it on OpenRepos.

You can now access Google Drive as it was a folder on your phone - open documents, upload/download files just by copying them back and forth, etc. It works fine with the File Manager and FileTug, but hangs with Cargo Dock.

I hope others will find it useful. At least for me, it also removed the need to have Google Play Services installed (even though I temporarily stopped using Google Drive just to avoid installing that).

Re: What Applications would you like to see on Sailfish Devices?

just wondering.. is there a Google Hangouts app? (yes yes I know, why not use whatsapp instead? coz I have a diff group of friends that use hangouts)

currently using the android one and (unsure if its just me but..) this rarely ever updates...
for example.. ill open the app.. don't see any messages.. so I go into the group chat and I start typing, after a few minutes I will notice that there has been a convo happening for the last hour already!!!
and so I go and reply.. I sit there and wait for a response.. and never get a response

its only till almost another hour before the app 'refreshes' itself and then I can see everyones response to my message from an hour ago

There is hangish https://openrepos.net/content/daniele/hangish.

You have to leave it open to receive messages. But even if you close it and then open it, it will load all messages, no delay as in the Android app with Jolla.

tried installing hangish... when I logged in.. it kept saying error when I tried typing message
then it forced close on me
and now when I try to re-open.. it has the spinning wheel saying "logging in" and it does nothing..

when I tried uninstall and reinstall it auto goes to the "logging in" wheel

how do I clear it so it doesn't save my credentials (so that I can re-try putting all my info in) (actually.. would that even help with my issue?)

is there a thread for hangish? eep

Anyone suggested a calendar app based on GPECalendar on N900.
I always relied on that for appointments, to-dos and events management.

Preferably a native Sailfish app.

Glad to see ownCloud, Keepass, and others already listed.
I would suggest:
OpenVPN
AdAway
OpenKeychain (OpenPGP)
Ampache / VLC streaming music client
Jota Text editor
Total Commander - File explorer
AFWall+ - iptables based firewall

This thread has lost its meaning at least 20 pages ago. Even the most basic things are not implemented and yet we keep getting requests for more and more arcane things.

Then do a TL;DR, list of:

a) apps requested, not ported (yet), with no alternatives
b) apps which alternatives are already available
c) apps that are already there

Possibly also with links to source where the app is open source.
Like the first post, but it hasn't been updated since 2013

pichlo 2015-05-21 20:32

Re: What Applications would you like to see on Sailfish Devices?

The first post is that TL;DR list. Yes, it has not been updated for two years because the OP was last active here in Novembet 2013 but even if the OP were still here and had the chance to update it, there is nothing to update. The mere fact that the two years old wish list is still current and nothing on it has been ticked off is a clear indication that this thread has run its course.

Literally second position:
2. Wassap
Update that, two clients already native

The guy hasn't logged in for two years = nothing on this list changed, but somehow, yeah that makes sense

edit: oh man the list is sooo old it really is painful, still in top ten 'missing' native FB and Twitter clients, cutetube - ask someone on this forum, nothing to change

I don't use that but from how flooded TMO is with threads about whatsit, all full of complaints, I figure that none of them works very well. So yes, pretty much still on the list ;)

You just dealt both coderus and cepiperez quite a low blow (and just look into those threads, as you state facts without factchecking, most complaints are minor edge cases, lots of people use those daily already and thank them graciously, seriously do a little bit of fact checking, like checking first post, Tweetian and Friends have been available for months)

Oh man, the more I look into this list, the more stupid your assertion was, cutetube, we need mercy of our developer mad at jolla, but very good YTplayer is in the harbour, another from top ten is Instagram, which there is native SailGrande (also in Harbour), 50% done from the first ten, there is LITERALLY nothing to update on this list (with TWO clients working with whatsup ffs)

szopin 2015-05-21 21:08

Re: What Applications would you like to see on Sailfish Devices?

And from the next 10 again 5/10 coverage is there - barcode reader/meecast/clock with alarms/irc/profiles.
There is nothing changing since 2013, how surprising

Maybe the list could be added to the wiki?

abandon thread and start again when Sailfish 2.0 arrives.

fresh start based on the capabilities of the upgraded Sailfish.

Huh, You seem to be claiming that absolutely zero has been ticked-off. I occasionally see users posting here to confirm this or that is now available.
And I haven't even bothered to actively cross-reference* what is/isn't available between the OP, the Harbour, & Other sources.

*couldn't think of anything more mind-numbing, not interested in a J1

You are right, that would be unfair. I checked the first post and I can confirm that at least 5 items from the first 30 have been implemented.

Still, I see adding more items to a 320+ long list rather counter-productive. It is frustrating to watch items being added 10x faster than being ticked off.

If there are any devs out here who want to develop some of the most requested apps, then I'll be willing to pay those devs quite a bit of money to help them get started on it (even if those apps are not ones I'm gonna use 'cause I love to help SOS get off the ground no matter what!). So if any dev wants to make use of my offer, let me know :)
