Re: Dell Releases What n900 Should Have Been (Dell Streak)
Y'know, I have a real hard time seeing this as a spiritual successor to the 770/N800 line for one reason.
It's not the huge screen (40% more area, no more pixels?!); like the N900's shrink, the size doesn't really matter all that much. It's not the overall size -- which really isn't that much worse than an N800. The one reason? No D-pad! Even the N900 has arrow keys, if in a different form. While I do love my full alpha keyboard (and would like a full 5-row + d-pad even better), I have no real problem with a touchscreen only device, if I can trade the keyboard off for something more useful. I was certainly happy enough with an N800 for a long time, even after the N810 came out. But I demand at least a d-pad -- the ability to navigate pages, etc. without obscuring the screen is of inestimable value. As it is, I'm half-tempted to buy one just to fool with in a few months when they're cheaper, but I know it won't be my primary machine. (And I expect, by that time, there'll be something else I like better.) Quote:

Thanks for doing the calculation. So, while the ppi is not necessarily specified it is possible to calculate it. I didn' t know that, thanks again. |
Re: Dell Releases What n900 Should Have Been (Dell Streak)
dot per inch would be resolution (dots) divided by inches. or something like that? might give different horizontal and vertical dpi.
and then there's ebay-dpi where you count subpixels (rgb) instead of pixels. |

Re: Dell Releases What n900 Should Have Been (Dell Streak)
lol i think it's funny no one realy cared about dpi yesterday.. and yep 186.6 for the streak, printed media is only 300 dpi, i think it's all getting a bit carried awyay, most web pdfs are probably 90dpi - wich we used to use to assume screen res.. apple's own 30" lcd is only 100 and the n900 has the equivelent of QuadHD on a 17" screen.. is all a bit silly!
oh and for more to add to screen woes... i don't believe there's a iPS transflective solution in manufacture, so daylight visibility will probably still be poor |

i like high dpis for devices held this close the face. but i like standard resolutions more. 800x480 is a good size for a cell phone. |
Re: Dell Releases What n900 Should Have Been (Dell Streak)
pixelqi seemed to be high angle, high visibility in their computex demos.
