Nokia is not releasing PR 1.2 until Apple release their next iPhone. Nokia doesn't want Apple to copy new options in PR 1.2.
Nokia will release PR 1.2 the day apple release their new version of iPhone.

Okay, so, we heard ENOGUH of those "reliable sources". I don't buy it anymore.

I mean, seriously. I understand that they are lagging behind, but...

Why they can't release the ALREADY FIXED AND WORKING bugfixes as, say, PR 1.1.2?

There is this brainstorm, which suggests exactly that.

Windows has about 2 or 3 bug fixing updates every week.
Why can't Nokia do that?

Tuesday patches are mainly security fixes, not bugs fixes. The "standard" bugs and the new functionalities are releasing in service packs. (and the number of Windows users >> number of the Maemo users).

So they use Roadmaps like the majority of the programs on the Internet. You will have the same system for Adobe products, for example.

I'm not saying that it's the best way to do, but I understand them. We can live with the PR1.1.1 until the end of May, it won't kill us. Just be patient.

I remember that when I bought my N900, I was under the impression that PR 1.1 was to focus on Bug Fixes and PR 1.2 was to bring new functionality.

It was made a lot of sense.

Now, I'm just worried PR 1.2 will be renamed PR 1.2 Final.

Note that even that report supposedly from inside Nokia said it wouldn't be released at least till the end of May. That leaves the possibility that it won't actually be released till June or July or so. We just don't know.

what i don't fully understand is how people think that after buying a device, they're entitled to receiv updates which bring new functionality.... and then, if this happens say its too late or not often enough or there's only bugfixes and too few new features etc.

you buy a device, you get what's in the box. that's what you pay for. whatever comes then - third party apps, firmware updates,.... - can happen, may happen, will most likely happen. but: there's no way you could actually *expect* it.

so when you bought your phone thinking there'll be this update for bug fixes and then that update for new features etc, you're bound to be disappointed.

@benny: judging from the competitor's offerings (iphone, android, blackberry), a consistent stream of OS update is already 'par for the course' now. Not offering that detracts from N900's competitive values.

ps: though I agree that one shouldn't make their decision to purchase based on rumors/possibility of new features in future updates. Then again, with n900 missing the marks on such basic features as ussd... *shrugs*.

Whew... glad YOU are not a mobile product manager. You and the soon-to-be ex Nokia CEO might have some similar views.

I am not referring to nokia specifically, but many electronics companies sell unfinished products in order to beat their competitors to market; knowing their products are flawed but thinking they'll just fix the problems later with upgrades.
