Re: [ANNOUNCE] The First N900 Coding Competition! 21st May-21st June. Open to all!

I contribute $ 25 for an application database, similar to the Smart list to go (Palm OS) Dataviz company and another $ 25 for a full schedule of contacts and appointments from Iambic Agendus style (also Palm OS)

edit:

was forgetting, an application with the capabilities of CallRec also be very welcome! (Add $ 25 for it)

thanks

An excellent initiative, typical of this forum and the Maemo community as a whole.
I'm too dim to code but will happily add $20 to the bounty.

Awesome, thanks Adib and qwertyberty! I'll add you to the list *thumbs up*

Keep them coming in y'all! We're getting close to the $200 mark in pledges  The more we collect the easier to make more prizes :)

There's a challenge for someone :) If Niko ever gets that wishlist done it would be a good place to add your offer.

Zomg! Massive donation! Thanks Ken *bows bows* :D

Hopefully it's not Hong Kong dollars... :p

Edit: By the way, when typing Ken's donation pledge in, I noticed the wiki page has been viewed 789 times! Let's hope we can convert a lot of those views into new apps

If anyone hasn't checked it out for a few days, the wiki has grown quite a bit http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo_Coding_Competition_1. And I see Lukash has his file manager project, which he mentioned a page or two back, added in there now too :) There's 9 projects listed so far, it's great to see it changing every day though we'll have to let rmerren know there is no "misc" category, thats what "other" category is for :p

I added to the wiki page a wishlist draft, had to read again the entire thread, so do not blame me if somethingh is missing :)

Everyone is invited to fix, enhance and add ideas (prizes?).

It's easy, just register on garage, login in the wiki, go to the competition wiki page, and click on "edit" near the "wishlist" section, to add an entry to the table just append before the final:

Code:

!}
the lines:
Code:

| category name
| some text
|-

About the Qt 4.6.2 apps I think that we should accept them even if PR 1.2. will not be released before the end of the competition, the developer should just inform how to workaround the not automatic installation and promise to repackage them when the new PR is out :)

(really I think that PR.1.2 will come before!, just to not exclude qt developers in the worst case).

Thanks Niko for adding the wishlist, though im not sure what to make of a couple of the entries (M-Fart, M-Boobs ?? the mind boggles..)

Yeah... kind of. Everyone is very welcome to take part in the wiki but please be responsible, particularly in areas outside the wishlist. It's just common sense :)

For example, competition rules are on there, participants entries are on there, etc etc. If you edit the page rather than a section and things go wrong, or if someone tries to sneakily manipulate the competition in their favor, it has the potential to cause a lot of problems. Sort of part of the reason i didnt want the wishlist on the competition wiki page to begin with to be honest.

I just added (hoping) all the requests made on this thread, m-fart and m-boobs may seem a little stupid to me too, but it may be the community likes so much to say to iphone users "we have them and nicer too" that I did not feel free to censure them :)

Just admit it, they are your ideas aren't they? :p

Ok, fair enough it's what other people have requested :) M-Fart I can picture what that is .. yuck, M-Boobs... maybe something to do with shaking the accelerometer.. that could work! ;)

Okay, thanks. I've got several Ideas and requests for my project. I released only a early version... so if you say so I will try to contribute with my small DreamRemote project. :)

I've got not much time, and I scheduled several improvements to be done late this summer. But I guess this competition could motivate me to learn more and faster.

The competition time was extended by 1 Month. I spent about 1 Month in my rare spare time to get this far (published 10 days ago). So I guess when the deadline for already begun project will be in June, not July, it is fair for all. :)
It's hard to look at seperate improvements when you see and test a project with all parts altogether - Okay. Just a suggestion. I don't think I have a chance to win anything on this contest. My project is only for people useful who own a Dreambox (or a AZBox, DBox and something similar in the future ) - So it's only for a small part of this community useful... :(

As mentioned here these are two iphone app : iFart and iBoobs.
I've seen some videos on youtube and I think both can be realized for maemo.
I have also updated the wiki with this informations.
