Yes, I also noticed this. At first I thought it went through some DDOS

WTF. Not ZERO down time for updates of such a cruel piece of software. :)

I guess it couldn’t handle the load when you tried the password ;)

Mock up of size comparison with Motorola Photon Q
(I used a Note 8 for comparison, which has also a 6" screen and has similar (rounded) edges.) For the pocket, it should be fine, expecting it to be a bit thinner...

And: Note 8 has 6,3" (full rectangle) or (6,2" within rounded corners). So depending on the actual screen "6 inch" may perhaps vary and the real thing is even smaller than depicted here.

So it should be something like that:

(Yeah, my post # ... it's #666!)

Re: Are you Ready? Fx HW Keyboard Phone

Let's see, we know the display is 18:9 6", that means that the short side is 6.8cm and the long one is 13.6cm.
Using these numbers and trying to measure some distances in the available photos, we'll end up with 0.5-1cm of top and bottom bars without display, optically it will be a bit less since the edge is curved.

Yeah, if 6" means *no more than* 6" that'd be good. I squeezed the Note 8 in my mock up for it's screen to fit your calculated dimensions:

(Anyway... enough Photon Q for now...)

My feeling says:
The lady on the show (at 17:00 CET, which is less then 2,5 hours from now on!) will talk about the F(x) device..

What makes you feel that way? Are there any hints of this being relevant?

I've estimated the device to be roughly 150x70mm. Thickness is probably going to be about 10mm give or take

If it's 10mm or under I'm happy. Well, happy either way, been waiting years for this, and if it materializes(with scandic keyboard), it might be the last qwerty slider ever released with decent specs.

Yea that sounds reasonable, maybe even a bit taller than that. Thickness... TBH I always preferred a larger battery over a slimmer device, so let's hope the battery isn't too small :)

Hehe, me somehow too. I already caught myself thinking: well, that new trend to foldable phones hopefully puts an end to "thinner is better", as now we like multi layer thickness and batteries all over the device! ;)

I'm so glad I have work today. So I don't keep obsessively checking all channels about this device.
Will wait for updates

  • Snapdragon 835
  • 6GB RAM
  • 128 GB Storage
  • 3200mAh Battery
  • 1080p display

Apparently they aim for 650$ / 650£, shipments in July

Not sure I'm happy about that 2 year old CPU tbh... Battery also doesn't seem all that large for the thickness.

With those specs and for that price i can say it is very nice
A SD855 on it would not cost less than 1000€

Right now your basic choice is between a 2 year old CPU on Fx and a 10 year old CPU on N900! Lol. Wonder which device is actually better for productivity? Regardless. Kudos to Chen et. al. for all their efforts! Really looks good!

However, still waiting about the preorders :D

Re: Are you Ready? Fx HW Keyboard Phone

14 mm thickness is the same like the Nokia E7 had. That isn't something wich bothers me. At least not when holding the device in my hands. The problem I see is, carrying it in my pockets. I already find my Xperia X slightly to big. But if this device is double the hight of the Xperia X And slightly longer I'm not so sure if it really fits in my pockets. Anyway I have to wait and see.

If I buy it or not will in the end not be decided by the dimensions, but the OS that will come to the device. Stock Android isn't my cup of tea.

frnk 2019-02-27 15:55

Re: Are you Ready? Fx HW Keyboard Phone

I like it. Video says, screen is only "nearly 6 inches", so comparison with 'Photon Q' is more like my second mockup, while thickness is just like Photon Q. And, yes, 835 is also a little bit faster than Snapdragon S4 Plus.

It maybe isn’t perfect but it’s very nice. If it gets official Sailfish then it will surely be my next phone.

Re: Are you Ready? Fx HW Keyboard Phone

A bit underwhelmed by the dimensions. Not going to lie... 14mm is nearly double some of the phones out right now, with no bigger battery to show for it.
And the processor is old and will be nearly 3 years old by the time it starts selling. I'm not being negative but these facts won't show well with the general public

Don’t really care for the older hw and size as long as the sw and apps work well with the QWERTY.
If I want speed or power I have other devices.

Looks cool.

I am a bit worried about changing screen supplier. Jolla seems to scamed most of us with that kind of stunt and couldn’t keep it together if they told us the truth. The good part is FX doing it without customer money so they can change screen supplier all day long as far as I am concerned:D
hope they are doing it for all the right reasons.

Expecting delays...

Enthusiasts will buy the phone no matter what. But this device needs broader appeal to succeed, if you care about that sort of thing. Otherwise yes this device is great and if it fails to sell at least you got the upgrade you were waiting for
I never had an N900...

When doing that preorder, you don't have to pay by now. It just tells f(x)tec that you are interested in buying. If later that year something turns out not the way you want it, just don't confirm.
