I've created a dirty hack which made bluemaemo work (at least its showing the UI without useful errors). I do not know if it is the screen one is supposed to see as I don't have many bluetooth devices to play around with. Tried pairing N95-1 with errors and I don't see anything new in the main menu.

Anyway the hack is:
Code:

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libembryo-ver-svn-05.so.0.9.9 /usr/lib/libembryo-ver-svn-03.so.0
What the hack does is that it would soft link an older version of libembryo as requested by bluemaemo with the later version of libembryo provided within the repositories.

It is suggested from then on that one shouldn't be running bluemaemo on screen as the program would start displaying control chars which may mess up the prompts once exited. If the prompts were messed up with the control chars, one can type in "reset" (without quotes) and ignoring however its displayed on the screen and this in theory should reset the console prompt back to normal. Failing that would require one to exit that terminal session/ssh (back to host where one can then reset the terminal from their localhost) or otherwise.

link to the screenshot of bluemaemo 0.3-10 working.

I tried this using root/sudo gainroot and got this message:

root is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.

Then I tried it normally without root and got asked for a Password, which I do not know.

Can someone just upload the old libembryo package? Please help me as I really need this app

when you do sudo gainroot you no longer need the sudo before the Ln command.

This used to fix it but is not fixing it anymore, I just re-flashed and tried this command, I got an error message saying something like:

"Version 1.2.2+svn41533 of libeet was not found"

Edit Fixed:

If anyone gets above error, open xterminal, type root or sudo gainroot and then enter in these simple commands exactly as I have listed them, even if they don't make sense to you, it does work and fixes the error message.

1. apt-get install libeet1

2. Wait for it to be completed. This has to be done first.

3. Then type:

apt-get install bluemaemo efl-core python2.5-efl-core python2.5-ecore python2.5-evas python2.5-edje python2.5-elementary libeet1 libevas0 libevas0-all libecore0 libecore0-all libembryo0 libedje0 libepsilon0 libetk0 libetk0-engine-all libedbus0 python2.5-edbus python-configobj libecore0-con libecore0-evas libecore0-file libecore0-job libecore0-txt libecore0-x libecore0-ipc libecore0-imf libecore0-imf-evas libecore0-input libevas0-engine-software-x11 libevas0-engine-software-x11-16 libetk0-engine-all libetk0-engine-evas-x11 libetk0-engine-evas libetk0-engine-evas-software-x11 libetk0-engine-evas-software-x11-16 libevas0-all libevas0-loaders-all libevas0-savers-all libevas0-engines-all python2.5-efl-core python2.5-epsilon python2.5-etk python2.5-efl-utils python2.5-elementary libelementary0 libevas0-loader-eet libevas0-engine-software-generic libevas0-engine-buffer libevas0-engine-software-generic libevas0-loader-eet libevas0-loader-jpeg libevas0-loader-png libevas0-saver-eet

4. Wait for the above to be done, will take a while.

5. Then type apt-get install libevas0-saver-jpeg (no more room on the above command to fit this in fully, so have to do it separately)

6. Wait for it to be done

7. Run Bluemaemo and see if it opens and runs properly, if it does, you are done! If it opens and shortly after it closes, then you have one more step to do.

8. [Optional - Check if app opens first] again in X-terminal and as root, type the following command:

ln -s /usr/lib/libembryo-ver-svn-05.so.0.9.9 /usr/lib/libembryo-ver-svn-03.so.0

9. Enjoy!

Hi Vivmak, it works well with windows 7 but right now I am also facing issue of mouse cursor moving 1FPS... remove your all bluetooth pair from the Device list and try to make new paring your system with N900 it will work fine.

Re: Introducing BlueMaemo

Finally got this working with 2 separate machines, Windows Vista and Windows 7. After reading through the last 18 months worth of posts in this thread, the most useful information from multiple posters was to make sure that you did a fresh pairing with the N900 and PC prior to starting up BlueMaemo. Then, when you start BlueMaemo, you double click on the N900 device in your PCs Bluetooth Device Settings page, and enable HID profile, hit apply, and Windows installs the N900 as a Bluetooth keyboard as well.

One bug which I haven't seen posted is that if you start BlueMaemo without enabling Bluetooth, although it starts it changes the visibility of your N900 to hidden, even though when you go to settings, the tick box for Visible is still on. Further, I have not once been able get BlueMaemo working unless I enable Bluetooth first.

Lovely app, seems that development has stalled, I wish I could help in that regard. I would love to have a Windows Media Centre profile so that I could map different actions to different buttons.

vivmak as travla said the instant disconnect problem could be solved by removing the existing n900 device and then adding it one more time (pairing). the new device will be detected as a phone and if you look at its properties under services you should find that you can enable the keyboard and mouse HID service. If that service was not there then open bluemaemo and try to connect from there this will instigate the service. Then go and select the service and windows will install the drivers for it.

I have to tell you that it was not straight forward for me and i had to experiment with different things but after that it all works perfectly so don't give up.

Has anybody found the way around this issue? And by that I mean the cursor moving very slowly.
The app is great, but being unable to use the cursor when the option is right there is very frustrating.

Well, in case anybody else is experiencing the problem of the cursor not responding or being extremely slow in bluemaemo:

I had the issue since the first time I installed it. Only once it worked after pairing a laptop for the first time, but when I connected again, it was back. For unrelated motives, I had to reflash my N900. I didn't restore all the software, but instead picked only packages that I was actually using. And now it works! Smoothly!

This might not be particularly helpful, but it points towards that other application was the one messing up this function. Sadly I have no idea which one, I just had too much stuff installed.

So I followed your instructions and came across some problems. It had to do with the Repositories on the device.

In Xterminal

sudo gainroot

I had to do:

apt-get install libeet1=1.2.2+svn41533-maemo1

Then: (notice I removed libeet1 from the install below (because it would bump it up to 1.4 something and then would NOT install)

apt-get install efl-core python2.5-efl-core python2.5-ecore python2.5-evas python2.5-edje python2.5-elementary libevas0 libevas0-all libecore0 libecore0-all libembryo0 libedje0 libepsilon0 libetk0 libetk0-engine-all libedbus0 python2.5-edbus python-configobj libecore0-con libecore0-evas libecore0-file libecore0-job libecore0-txt libecore0-x libecore0-ipc libecore0-imf libecore0-imf-evas libecore0-input libevas0-engine-software-x11 libevas0-engine-software-x11-16 libetk0-engine-all libetk0-engine-evas-x11 libetk0-engine-evas libetk0-engine-evas-software-x11 libetk0-engine-evas-software-x11-16 libevas0-all libevas0-loaders-all libevas0-savers-all libevas0-engines-all python2.5-efl-core python2.5-epsilon python2.5-etk python2.5-efl-utils python2.5-elementary libelementary0 libevas0-loader-eet libevas0-engine-software-generic libevas0-engine-buffer libevas0-engine-software-generic libevas0-loader-eet libevas0-loader-jpeg libevas0-loader-png libevas0-saver-eet

Then: (using Faster Application Manager, because that's were I added the devel repository)

Installed Bluemaemo through the GUI interface.

Hope that helps someone.

On that is done, pair your device.

0.- Turn on your n900 bluetooth (if used before with your pc).
1.- On Windows, Click on the "start" button.

3.- Unpair your n900, by selecting it, right clicking on it, and selecting "Remove device".

6.- Click on "Wait for connection".
7.- On your PC, On your notification area, right click on the bluetooth Icon, and select add device, there add your n900 (will be shown as a bluetooth keyboard).
8.- Pair with it. The PC will give you a code that you need to put in the n900, a screen will automatically open on your n900.
9.- Your PC will tell you that it was a success, and is already connected, but your n900 will remain in "Waiting for connection". Just wait a couple of minutes, and it will send you to the menu (Windows 7 is still installing drivers).

Re: Introducing BlueMaemo

Two hints for installing & using BlueMaemo on Nokia N900 :
- install 'libeet1=1.2.2+svn41533-maemo1' before (using 'apt-get install' as root) installing BlueMaemo;
- to fix the physical keyboard focus, then follow :
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=249
i.e, with Easy Debian installed, open BlueMaemo, run in X Terminal "$ fixkbdfocus bluemaemo". Now the N900's physical keyboard will work.

The keyboard focus fix is in qoles git repo if you wish to compile it.

I've just come across this fix and like you I didn't want to install Easy Debian, so I compiled qobi-wmhint-fix myself from source I found on these forums* and found the contents of the fixkdbfocus script through Google, you'll also need wmctrl installed which is in extras-testing. "gunzip" the attachments, "chmod +x" them to make them executable and copy them to /usr/bin (or anywhere in your $PATH should work).

*I did come across a binary as well, but it was compiled for Easy Debian and didn't work directly on Maemo.

Having reflashed and reinstalled everything step-by-step, I'm pretty convinced that there's some conflict between BlueMaemo and version 49 of Power Kernel - the one currently in Extras-Testing. Without that, pointer movement is as responsive as can be.

I also got the hardware keyboard fixkbdfocus trick to work, though I will try to find out how to make a shortcut icon that launches it with the command. It's pretty tedious to do every time.

The one remaining problem with BlueMaemo then is that the hardware keyboard function (blue) keys don't map to the correct characters. They're in a completely different arrangement! (The one from 810 maybe?) My workaround for this is to open the Bluemaemo soft keyboard on its special character page and use those. Works well enough I suppose, but a bit irritating. Did anyone ever find a fix for that?

Yes, there is definitely some conflict with Power Kernel 49; without it (rebooting into stock kernel, haven't tried on other power kernel versions) I got everything up and running superbly! Thanks for all the great advice and hints in this thread. For me in connecting to Windows 7, it didn't work to connect to Win7 from the device -- only to put Bluemaemo in wait for connection mode and then initiate the connection from Win7 - then everything worked perfect.

edit: just installed power kernel v pre50 (http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...postcount=2904) and it's working just as smooth as on stock. So either the problem has been solved in the new kernel or it was just a weird quirk, I suppose.

Thanks mate, it's working brilliant.

I've just made a QBW which starts bluemaemo, waits a few seconds and then issues fixkbdfocus.
See attachement. (You'll need sudser installed)

Thanks retsaw and J4ZZ - the two executables with this QBC widget work great.

Just a tip if it's not working for some after copying the scripts to /usr/bin - as root in xterm, type fixkbdfocus and check the output. I got a message about gxmessage not being found. Apt-get install gxmessage didn't work, however gxmessage is installed with gmessage, so install that and you should be fine.

But I downloaded libeet1 and installed it successfully , and bluemaemo works flawless , I think it's your repos .

Re: Introducing BlueMaemo

Looks like the version of libeet1 you are suggesting to install (libeet1=1.2.2+svn41533-maemo1) isn't available anymore.

I tried "apt-get install libeet1", but this version doesn't satisfies the requirements of BlueMaemo and, then, I am not able to install it.

Any ideas?

Re: Introducing BlueMaemo

I am also having a problem to install this on N900.
Can anyone make step-by-step tutorial?

All I have found is outdated tutorial, another "fixed" and this thread...

I don't know does it mater, but I am running CSSU with Power-Kernel 51.

EDIT: I have found this thread where I can install it :)

Thanks to this post:

http://maemo.org/packages/view/wmctrl/

It doesn't show in HAM due to not having a correct section type.
